My suggestion: All balance changes go back to v1.04 but keep the glitches out.Tom Brady will be very happy and stop the character roller coaster , I'll be happy with my awesome elbow dash and awesome Raiden teleport and PL will have a chance to win tournaments again.
I don't know about that, there were good changes brought in the last patch as well as bad ones. I do have to say though, if Vanilla Raiden and Kung Lao were somehow brought back Kabal might have some competition for his top spot.

Anyone that hates on kabal players needs to try to use kabal, exactly.... People need to stop bitching just because mk9 has ONE ridiculously technical character in the game, and he's the best surprise surprise. If you hate seeing kabal so much, either pick him up or learn to beat him end of story/enough kabal bashing.
Um how does that even make sense?

If you pick up kabal you aren't seeing him less... you're seeing him more. SMH

CD Jr playing Kabal is a terrifying thought.

That being said, the top have to do what the top have to do to win.
This IS Mortal Kombat. Survival of the fittest and so forth.
Even if that means the collective population will one day resemble a respiratoraly-enhanced 10-piece from KFC.

Kaball on, Kaballers.
Yeeeeah, b/c he was doing so shitty with Jax

Really who wants to see Kabal mirrors all the time?

Both extremely valid points...but hey, top players are gonna do what they feel makes them harder to beat, regardless of how well they may already be doing.
To borrow from the samurai metaphor, why be the best with a pistol when you can trade it in for a BFG 9000?

Meh.

I'm platinum mad!
Well this is disappointing.

"Why not use the best? It'll increase your victory chances."
I've a better question. Why do we so easily forsake player skill for the godliness of a character?

Fact: Playing as Kabal, MK9's best, will make losing a lot more difficult.
That's true.

But winning is never certain, and the skill of a player is what truly matters.

Another thing. Do not blame people like Reo or any other Kabal main out there for his popularity, performance, or his unfair discoveries.
Blame NRS.

Exactly. Kabal didn't make Reo as good as he is, nor did Reo (technically) make Kabal as good as he is.
He was built that way long before the two crossed paths.

Instead of bitching about Kabal, get in that lab and figure out how to beat him. Just that simple. Are you a fighter, or a whiner? Maybe learn a character that doesn't lose to him 7-3, and you'll at least stand a fair chance.

[edit] \/ Oh, jebuz, pre-patch smoke with OTG bomb, along with the resets he has now?! I can taste the tears already.

History repeats itself...Kabal ridiculous in UMK3, ridiculous in MK9 lol.

This I'm going to work on defeating him instead being angry about it, it's not impossible to shut him down. We just need to put in work and grind the matches till they're winnable.

I've been working for a long time on who I've been planning to main, and I honestly think that out of all of the characters that I have run so far, none of them were quite as challenging to pick up as Kabal. I had to learn how/when/why to do dash cancels while pressuring up close or far away, what kind of zoning pressure to use on different characters, the IaGBs are really hard to get on a PS3 controller, etc. I personally think he is just as hard to play against as he is to run.

Not that I've made it to any tourneys myself, but maybe if all the haters decided to put the same amount of effort and inputs into their own characters, they would see their mains making it to the grand finals, and then they would understand what it's like for their characters to be hated simply for winning.

Theres something im unfamiliar with vs Kabal. Can you poke him during a NDC? Or is it just a guessing game between a cancel or no?

It isnt about who wants to see Kabal mirrors. This is a competitive fighting game with money on the line so if any one likes to win then use top tier. Use Sub Zero or whatever in casuals. Period. HIGH LEVEL Play and to win needs KAH-BALLLL

"Strength isn't everything"
I think this philosophy of: This is a Kabal game at the highest level, won't pan out, just like all the other phases the community jumped on.

If I remember correctly, CDjr has been on record beating Reo's kabal many times with Jax, and didn't the whole of american shit it's pants when they realised Johnny Cage was devastating, and instead of dealing with it, the community already followed a new trend two months ago of ''You need a trio of characters that compliment each other to win a tournament''? And I guess that has passed, now this is the next theory...

The community has jumped on so many phases and trends since the games release, so many that I can't even list them all, it seems everyone is looking for something definitive, or a fad answer, or a shortcut, and maining Kabal isn't the answer for Kabal, who just so happens to be the new problem.

What's next?

The point of this post was to take a stab at non competitive players influencing the tournament players with bad advice, but it couldn't be more ironic that we have top level players passing down advice to non tournament players, and its just as bad.

What people aren't getting is... if this turns into nothing but Kabal vs Kabal, no one is going to watch the streams... no one that doesn't play kabal is going to want to go to tournaments. You can then forget about getting any more MLG invites, EVOs, money, etc.

"Play to win" does NOT need Kabal.

Have you forgotten all the tourneys that CDJr has won? lol

The game won't turn out that way, I have 100% faith in that.

I am not one to throw in the towel, and I believe there are others like me in the tournament scene who can take it.

Here are just some of aris's quotes:

"...right after pools, it was like every match was insane.....like there was just killers vs. killers ...and at that point I thought tekken 6 was going to be great this year, ya know, it was amazing. And then maaaaaan let me tell you, it got to top 8...."

"Unfortunately Ryan hart who was the Kazuya player, and Mr. Napps who was the Bryan player, both lost immediately when they played top 8. So what that did is, it left 4 Bobs and 2 Laws"

"Originally I was slated, I was asked by the evo staff to do commentary for top 8, but I ended up doing commentary for Mortal Kombat. They had asked me to do both, but I was slated to do commentary for top 8 for tekken up until Saturday....Rich decided he wanted to do top 8 commentary for tekken, so he told Keits that I[Rich] want to do it. So they let me know Rich wanted to do it instead of me, and I'm actually very glad he decided to do that because in my opinion tekken 6 was so boring."

"I mean....It's really unfortunate for the game....because it made tekken 6 look terrible"

"If I am a huge tekken fan and I love it and I think it was boring, that's a really bad sign"

"What's crazy is the level of gameplay was just like amazing. Like, these guys are hella fuckin good, they're playing totally solid, I mean just timing...whiff punishing and like throw breaking was amazing. Everyone did so well and like and like Fab and Kore, ya know, they're just both proof that they were the best, and you know Core really just performed phenomenally, but I mean the proof is in the pudding. That shit was boring."

"If history proves to repeat itself, I mean, that could be the nail in the coffin for tekken 6 as far as competitive gaming goes"

"Usually Evo dictates what happens to that game after Evo, and ya know...in this case will see what happens." (you know what happened)

"I was stunned. I did not think Mortal Kombat would be received so well. I did not think tekken 6 would be received so poorly. I mean, the crowd was hype for Mortal Kombat. Everyone was lovin' that shit. I think that, if Evo does dictate what happens to a game after Evo then Mortal Kombat is in good shape....that shit was amazing..."

My 2 cents: Evo 2k11 was hype for mk because it was the most varied top 8 there. Tekken 6 had been out for 3 years I believe, and having a bunch of Bobs put the nail in the coffin. The level of play for tekken was top notch (Just as a Kabal vs. Kabal at high level play would be), and yet it lead to it's death. Honestly I don't feel the same fate will happen to mk....but having a bunch of Kabals would bore the sh*t out of me. Seeing a bunch of Kabals would make the game look bad, especially on a grand stage...though odds of that are hella slim.

Top players can play however they want, so my opinion, or any casual/online player shouldn't matter to them; you play the game to win and to have fun. Though do know that the majority of the people that make up the streams, are casual/online players. As much as people complain about them complaing, they make up the majority of views for mk streams. It's only natural you would hear people complain. Best thing to is to just ignore them, and do what you do best.

Very good post.

The "if you don't like it, do/watch something else" logic would kill this game. If it is boring, nobody is inspired to play. No players, no money. No money, no tournaments.

T6 died out because the game didn't have much steam at that point, anyway. 3S was a game that had survived a much longer time of two characters being so dominant, and even spawned a proper port to current consoles so long after its initial release.

MK9 is riding on some serious heat. Even if the game starts to lose its variety, it will remain hype.
