Street Fighter V General Discussion

FL Rushdown

Champion
Probably because Mika's grounded combos were much more damaging than Gief's and put you back into a guessing situation without using meter. Her V-trigger and v-reversal were also more likely to allow her to change the momentum of the match back to her favor. Mika was really dumb in S1. S2 Gief is still up for debate, but I don't think he's quite on S1 Mika level.
Giefs v reversal gives him advantage on hit like mikas did pretty sure he's plus 3 and in range to mix you. His grounded combos are slightly worse but he's got more hp, higher dmg/stun output, more range on his command grabs, and better wakeup options. I'm not saying he's better than she was, in fact he's probably slightly worse than she was, but they play similarly enough that I think it's funny to see how that play style goes from dumb to smart just because it's your character.

I get what you are saying. I heard over and over that Rashid beats Gief, but in reality, it's probably 5-5 in S1 and probably advantage Gief in S2. He was downplayed to some extent but he really wasn't tournament viable in S1 due to his bad MU's. Now, they made him more tournament viable by giving him vortexy command grab loops, which is exactly what people complained about with Mika. They probably should have buffed his neutral instead of just giving him more setplay.

It's all so very confusing.
I honestly think Gief is going to emerge as top 3. People say it's hard for him to get that first hit, but I don't honestly see that. His mobility isn't overly terrible. Yes, he's slow but he can jump like a meth'd out frog and between amazing air normals and his ability to change his air timing (spd and the belly flop) he can make those jumps safe-ish, and so on. Maybe I'm wrong, I frequently am, but Gief is just terrifying. Even the lariat nerf, I thought that nerf was designed to make the move more punishable but not lower it's effectiveness. I rarely see Giefs throwing it out unless it's a punish or something anyway, so I don't think that will be huge.

Shrug.

Also, Rushdown, sorry I didn't get back on last night. With no mic I wasn't learning anything anyway and just wasn't having any fun. Those were I think the first sets I've played I a couple weeks and I was just immediately reminded of why I stopped playing. =/ I don't know what I expected, knowing nothing about Urien vs you who main him and have thousands of rounds, but just wasn't feeling it.

I just can't get my feet under me with this game. I felt like I was with Karin, and I was seeing some limited success but then just burned out. Ugh.

The command throw game Gief has now was in S1. Nothing about that actually changed.

It actually did change in small but significant ways. Better oki off H air command grab and more tick throws, like off st.MP. The ground SPD's leave you at different distances.

And the SPD game itself is buffed by association, via his other tools getting stronger and lariat becoming as enormously strong as it has become.. along with his ability to build meter by slamming his face in to fireballs, means trying to beat him outside of that command throw range is less desirable/viable and he has better options and more buttons to keep himself where he wants to be, to apply that game.

Live by the sword, Die by the sword
Today, Capcom announced that it will be offering PC players a free glimpse into several new features and enhancements coming to Street Fighter V’s Capcom Fighters Network (CFN) online experience. Beginning on March 28th at 1pm PST / 9pm GMT and running to April 3rd at 12pm PST / 8pm GMT, current and new Street Fighter V players will be able to experience the improved CFN system and test out the new Season 2 balance adjustments for free.

This trial offer will be limited to Steam users and will only feature online modes, but will be completely free to play for both current and new players. All available characters, including the recently-released Kolin, will be unlocked for play. Once the test is concluded, Capcom will make further adjustments to optimize the new CFN and it will make its official release to both PS4 and PC players soon after.

Here is a list of improvements and new features coming to the new CFN:

Matchmaking Improvements
For most players, it will take less time to find an opponent in online matches. Matchmaking logic will help players avoid being frequently matched with the same opponent.

Ranked and Casual Match Loading Times
There will be a shorter transition when going into a Ranked or Casual match.

Interactive Timeline
On the new CFN home menu, a live feed of Friends’ activities will be presented on an interactive Timeline. Using the Timeline, players can immediately add a recent match to their Replay List, view a Fighter Profile, manage Friends, and adjust Timeline display settings.

Friend Management System
In addition to adding someone to Favorites, players can now blacklist players or add friends and follow them on CFN.

“Rage Quit” Penalty System
Special “rage quit” player profile icons will appear on profiles with frequent disconnections. Matchmaking logic will take into account online behavior and frequent disconnectors will be matched with similar opponents.

Training Mode – User Settings Saved
Training Mode settings will be saved and will carry over to the next time the mode is accessed.

Battle Lounge Country Flags
Country flags will appear in Battle Lounges, allowing players to locate competition in their region.

Country / League Based Rankings
Players will be able to filter leaderboards based on Country or League.

In-Game Announcer Voice
The in-game announcer will provide players and opponents with stats using data pulled from the server.

Fighter Profile Stats
More detailed stats will be tracked and presented on Fighter Profiles.

JJvercetti

Warrior
From what it sounded like on the Gief reveal trailer they wanted to make him more like his SF2 version but with armor to close the gap, I feel that they don't really know what to do with Gief as S2 seems the opposite of the vision.

Anyone have the quanba obsidian? I am thinking of picking one up but I am scared I have used the same stick for the past 6 years, I don't like change.

My advice would be to just buy a new Joystick for like $30. Go to https://arcadeshock.com/collections/joysticks I personally like the HORI Hayabusa but if you prefer Sanwa JLF or Seimitsu, they have those too. No sense in buying a whole new stick when all you need is a new lever and ball top.

what are all the OS' i need to know in this game to be successful?
Eh, none really. I'm sure there are a couple character specific ones floating around but you don't have to have them to be successful. We have a jump back OS but that dies in about a month so no reason to learn and use it now.

The secret to sfv is to just always do everything. It's why I'm bad. I can't bring myself to whiff 13 different normals when I'm full screen away from someone , or stand just outside range and whiff 9 more because input lagg and horseshit online make whiff punishing something that's reserved for hard read situations and dumb luck. Not to mention every normal in the game is plus on block plus on hit, third screen long or just has no downside to being mashed even if it's neg just keep mashing, zero reason to give the other player a turn.

I am kinda considering doing this but the stick is old and the usb cable is starting to get frayed pretty bad where the compartment closes on the back of the te:2. I know as soon as I replace the stick buttons will start going and I just want something new and the obsidian is sexy.

I don't want anything to worry about when t7 comes out lol.

You can get the cable too. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MS04WVW

Actually looks really simple to install. On the other hand, I've always liked Qanbas and I totally would get one if I needed a new stick. I haven't tried that one though. It says it uses Sanwa stick/buttons so I'm sure that it's pretty similar in feel to the TE2's.

Damn there is 3 different Sanwa denshi sticks on the site and 1 is sold out which is most likely the one I need. I need to do a lil more research. I remember hearing a while ago the TE:2 were not very mode friendly with stuff like K-sticks and hope replacing the joystick wont be a hassle. I wish I would of bought one of those TxSF sticks a couple years ago they were down to like 90$ during tournaments and now I can't find a TE:2 for less then I paid 6 years ago.
