ESL League, The tournament standard, and the problem for pad players.

Haven't read this entire thread, but if anyone is wondering, the Titan One converter is allowed for ESL gaming so long as its set to (Tournament Edition Firmware). I bought mine a week or so ago and will be using it for the Fatal 8.

It literally is a god send! My PS3 pad works perfect on it!
Is there such a converter for ps2 to ps4 and ps2 pad to xbone ?

@JRosa21 -- the tournament standard in the FGC will still probably be PS4, because that's what EVO is on. As annoying as this may be, ESL and the grassroots FGC are really two entirely separate things and their decisions don't really have any bearing on each other.

I've seen it mentioned that the ESL app that they use for online tournaments only works with XB1 and PC.

The only thing that bothers me is that they waited until the last possible minute to make this announcement. I'm one of the people who spent months doing research on which system to buy specifically for MKX. I went out a few weeks ago and picked up and PS4 because it seems like that will be the biggest community and also the tournament standard. Now I find out, just weeks from release, that there is this major deal going on and I can't participate. It's amazing that it's happening, but it feels like they really dropped the ball on getting the word out. Could have made a TON of money for Xbox...

Another random, but huge, gripe I have about this whole deal is the fact that converters, like the titan one(which I own and use regularly) are amazingly good for offline events, because they can be controlled. Online, we have to just assume someone doesnt have 50% combos macro'd to one button. Ive played multiple people online in IGAU that use this feature with the titan one converters, so I know its going to be an even bigger problem in MKX.

Just throwing that out there.

I for one am just sad ESL is not doing tournaments for Europe and North America on PC.
WHY so little love for PC???
As much as I love PC, with a console you know that at least everyone has the same hardware, same operating system, and will run the game the same way. Not that tournaments don't happen online for other games, but if you have to worry about people's PC issues it turns into a whole other ballgame, especially for something as frame-specific as a fighting game.

Since everyone is using their own hardware and setup, it seems like much less of a hassle to run things on console.

If there is, I'm not aware of it.

However you might be able to plug a ps2 controller converter into the Titan One , once its synced to the ps4 then synced to a ds3 pad. Just a theory.
You can make your own using Toodle's FGWidget connected to a pad hacked ps4/xbox one pad. This allows direct use of ps2 peripherals and you dont have to worry about system lockout or your convertor being patched out in a firmware update.

I tweeted at Mr. Wizard and he said EVO standard will still be PS4 regardless of what ESL is doing. While it is unfortunate that some players may only have PS4, those who have both should just buy the game on XB1 as well. Its practically free money if you do well in the ESL tournaments and you will get the EXP with some players who you may not be able to play against on PS4. Just my thoughts.

Also, ESL does something similar with Halo the Master Chief Collection. Granted, Halo is an XB1 exclusive but I have seen numerous people voicing concerns about reporting your matches on ESL. When me and my friends did a Halo 4v4 tournament for 1 grand, we beat a team and they reported that they won when it was really us. We tweeted at ESL right away and they got the situation fixed very quick so I personally don't mind their rules and console of choice since they are a legit org.

I would only get the XB1, assuming you don't have a PS4, if you really are going to take the game seriously and want to try and earn points and money through ESL. You have to think of it as an investment at this point. I will be doing both because I want to get the most competition and opportunities that I can.

If you are stuck with deciding on whether or not to get a PS4 or XB1 for MKX think about whether or not you can afford to travel.

If you can travel to offline grassroots, go for the PS4 since that is standard for tournaments.

If you can't afford to travel to tournaments, go with the XB1 and play in the ESL tournaments from the comfort of your home.

The only issue for me is having to buy the game a third time. I've never done this before. Absolutely insane.

Serious question: if one wants to compete and believes they have a serious shot of winning money, why is it an issue to put in the investment up front? Be realistic about this.

I have no intention of traveling anywhere for this game (or for any, I fucking hate even driving short distances) and I'm not looking to win money in tournaments, so I'm going to be perfectly happy playing on PC and feel no pressure to get any other platform for the experience. If someone does feel that pressure, then it's pressure motivated by the potential gains and there's really no right to complain about that.
