Can't B21 be armoured? and even worse, isn't it mid then high?
If spaced correctly there is no gap , although the second hit does get low profiled a lot. From the 5 hours I played yesterday I can say that small hitboxes are his biggest issue. S4 sb doesn't work on females and run under conversions are harded on them. D'vorah in particular can mash d3/d4 on Smoke all day and there is little he can do about it.

Yeah man it's day 2 but what does he have that I'm not seeing? Over half of his strings have gaps and there's a gap when throwing a smoke bomb. You need meter to even combo from the overhead. With all the shit characters have in this game I don't get it. He has launching strings that cancel when none of his moves can connect midscreen. Lab f131 and tell me what sense that makes?

It just seems that he relies heavily on his vortex.

The meter dependancy and no armor are pretty bad but I would definitely say hes still solid.

He has a vortex. Great range. Fast punishers. A fast teleport that hits overhead.

Characters with extremely powerful oki or launching armor could be problems but I would wait it out and just keep labbing.

Not being able to connect any special move after f131 sucks big time, but at least you can do b21xxspear after a successful f4d12 on hit. Even in the corner i wasnt able to find any special that connects after f131 except ex spear. Its really weird.

All in all though, i believe Smoke is really solid. A bit gimmicky, but solid. Phase and ex phase will probably play a big role in his meta game in the future regarding punishing strings that have gaps. Time will tell though.

So Smokes vortex is great imo. With all I wanna say 5 options and some of them even being safe he's solid. In some cases waking up with ex smoke toward is better than an armor move because you have free reign to pick your punish combo.

I'm a smoke fan boy too but the vortex isn't cutting it for me. Even Quan Chi has an armor move. There has to be a cheap block string into smoke fw for frame advantage to set up the vortex or smoke sucks. With everything in this game I don't get it. Smoke fw is 9 frame start up and will get beaten every time you need to use it.

For the last time. The ex phase is fully invincible. So what u want armour for?

I don't know if anyone knows this but out of F2 1, you can delay your specials by almost a full second. And since the string is only -6, it can't be punished! Just some food for thought with that.

I think smoke is super solid. All about mind games and footsies.

Great damage off punishes and his vortex is great once u get it going.

I suggest if u want pressure with EX smoke bomb do it either after b2 or b21 and force the opponent to react on where to armor.

Also his ex invisibility is almost op status once your opponent begins respecting options of f21 on hit. The idea isn't the mix up, the idea is the opponent doesn't know where u are or what your doing and b21 is a VERRRY good whiff punisher.

Play gaps as your opponent finds them. I believe baiting them out and is what smoke is all about.

Resolution through knowledge and resolve.
Smoke is the most powerful character I've ever embraced. I don't know what to do with it all. There are just so many options. Game-planning is simple, but getting the most out of him is not. Truth is, he should rarely ever get touched when played correctly.

I haven't messed with any of the other new characters, but they seem strong too.

True, i managed to play some games with only grab&escape anf got hit maybe 2,3 times and won the match. Having good timing on this + some mixup and its deadly as hell. Also the potential to make setups is just enormous.

btw interesting find, ex phase still counts as a hit for your opponent, smoke just doesn't lose health, meaning that they can cancel their normal into special if it connects with the ex phase
also i tried d1xx ex phase fw as an anti wake up option, if they armor you phasefw behind them, cage ex nutpunch's second hit will come out tho because again it will count as if his first hit connected (i think it can still be blocked though)

well with ex phasefw its definitely better, phase away on the other hand miiight leave you vulnerable depending on the special move they canceled to(although since its not fast the special will probably just whiff), ill test that later for sure!

What part of fully invincible you don't understand? It is invincible since the first frame. Go to the practice mode and try it
F21 ex smoke fwd (holding block) with Lao set to reversal ex spin. Fully invincible huh? Try to block it.

Its invincible through the startup. Once you reappear on the other side there is recovery. Thats the drawback or else the move would literally be a get out of jail free card. This is how the move should work.
There are characters with safe armor, plus armor, invincible moves, and all kinds of shit. The point of the move is to avoid pressure and it costs meter. It should be a get out of jail free card with it not inflicting any damage. Instead of recovery it should be neutral after invincibility wears off because what Lao is doing is punishing a "Fully Invincible" move that is Smoke's only defensive option.
