8-2's are not matchups that exist within the top 15 characters imo. kung lao can really make use of his teleport mixups, like canceling strings into teleport, crossover teleports etc. but nothing he does is not punishable, each teleport/dive kick/jump/roll is punishable. people dont know a roll is really punishable on whiff.we will discuss it further

dude, I am the last person to downplay kung lao. kung lao only punishes the sc if you do it too close, so just because you cant do it point blank range doesnt mean it is horrible. Kung lao is his worst matchup but can you really say kenshi players are playing this matchup to their full potential? you know they arent making use of their options. no matter how big your hitbox after your 21/24/1121 string ends you will have to guess to start your pressure again. kung lao cannot start another string if you poke, if you poke kung lao will spin, if kung lao spins you can block it. the kung lao player has huge advantage but kenshi has a lot more options than any 8-2 matchup.Kung Lao punishes SC the easiest on block with his long rage 7f 2. Kung Lao gets in on Kenshi the easiest out of any character and pummels him with jab pressure. Kenshi's insane wall game is not effective against Kung Lao since he is the most mobile character and the hardest to keep against the corner. Kung Lao is also the ONLY character in the game that can bait super armor SC / RK from Kenshi with teleport mix-ups after a cross-up and punish with full combo reliably.
If Kabal beats Kenshi 7-3, then Kung Lao beats Kenshi 8-2. It should be basic logic really. Stop downplaying Kung Lao and overlooking his tools in this match-up. It's almost as if Kung Lao was designed to counter Kenshi.

for example 1121 can be uppercutted out of in some situations, like after teleport 3, which you can see in the match with pig and tom. kung lao players should be using 21 out of teleport 3 anyway because the teleport is 0 on block, so any character with a 9 frame move can actually interrupt that for full combo. teleport 3 is still easy hitconfirm with 21 and 21 does more damage. if kl player uses 21 they WILL have to poke they cannot counter with a normal unless they are sektor.
after 1121 kung lao can get d1'd out of pressure and this also prevents them form corrsing over or do the jumpkick dive kick over you. it covers 3 options. so the kung lao player has to spin to keep his offense going.
this is not downplaying, how is saying it is a 7-3 against a top 4 character downplaying?
and you have to keep in mind, kung lao can get away with all these teleports, but they are still not safe.
Edit: dopesnt kenshi have one of the best walk speed in the game? dash away from teleport and punish, not easy but you should be able to do this a few times in a match against lao.

btw: I know this isnt your point but the whole problem for kenshi is the instant tele 3. if you go for the delayed 3 the kenshi player has enough time to counter. thats why I said after (instant)tele 3 you should use 21.
