Whats the latest on Cutthroat...whats his biggest weakness?
I think his biggest weaknesses are
1) his jump hurtbox
2) Frames to set up 50/50 only work in the corner...midscreen you really can't reliably set them up
3) Characters like reptile, cassie and lao punish f212 and db1 really hard and that makes you spend meter to be safe.
Other thoughts?
I personally think his biggest weakness is probably that the variation's design kinda contrasts with Kano's general design, and by that I mean it's a rushdown variation that needs you to be up close applied to a midscreen/footsie character. Some might say it's being meter heavy but he has F212 to cover that, some might say it's the range on his overhead but that's the biggest load of downplaying because you have a stamina bar designed specifically for getting close to the opponent.
1. Wait, hurtbox or hitbox?
2. I mean that's what his stagger pressure is for. You condition them to block by disregarding their attempts to try and hit you when you're minus by armouring into a full combo, then when they get the picture you go for a mixup after a stagger. Even if you don't do that and get a normal punish on something instead, ball as an ender (and a splat) has a huge amount of hit advantage which gives you plenty of time to get up close and mix them up. Ball also has tons of corner carry anyway.
3. You shouldn't be doing F212, it's -9. F21 itself is -6 so just stick with that unless you're fighting Reptile or Cassie. If you're fighting Cassie you should be playing Cybernetic anyway not Cutthroat. Reptile can only punish it with meter and for a relatively small amount of damage so the reward isn't really in his favour if he chooses to punish it anyway. As for ending blockstrings in DB1 that is mainly for people with moves that can't punish it like Erron or Johnny. All that doesn't even matter anyway when 99% of Kano's strings are safe by themselves, you don't need meter to stay safe at all really.
I think if they remove the DoT from ex buff then Cutthroat will sit comfortably (as it did before the patch anyway). They shouldn't have touched him because noone asked for it and that was for good reason. All they did was make him insanely good then nerf him to slightly worse than he originally was lol. It's a very solid and underrated variation but it's not that hard to see why people don't play it much.
