I have been playing in the park and it is very easy to get matches. The fucking people I played were god damn killers though. Playing Axl and missing your AA vs a Milia or Chip and it is damn near impossible to get your turn back or stop them from going ham on oki without a dp.

I need to play a char with a DP and or get gud is the moral of the story.

There are some characters that I just have no idea how to fight. Leo and Chipp are the main offenders, it always seems to be their turn and I just can't react to the cross-throughs. This might be an old man limitation.
Really need to get some decent play time in. Bad luck with work picking up the last few weeks :(

I finally ran into a Milia and got out razzle dazzled. I was looking at the replay and labbing stuff and was like. You beat me with punishable lies.

Not played a ton online but some and done ok. Wasnt sure I was going to get into to it, but I'm having fun now for sure.

I guess playing is not for Monday. 5min of waiting to play one awkward match with Sol, to get kicked off before rematching. Game then get's stuck "preparing network" for several min, and eventually I have to kill it. Back into another round of waiting, to get disconnected right off the bat and booted out of training because...reasons. Didn't want to play more than a couple of sets, and all my interest was gobbled up by server shenanigans.

I don't like repeatedly dumping on games, but this base function and the lack there of. Has there been any acknowledgement of what an unstable time suck the server stuff is, or are we left assuming they know because they pretty much have to be after having created such a memeable product?

Yeah the netcode is godlike but everything else if dogshit. Fortunately I’ve yet to experience a soft lock like yours…

Yeah she has some stuff that can be abused due to lack of knowledge but also has disgusting setups that you are not getting out of without a DP. I think she is easily on par with May, ram and chip.

On the plus side, it eventually started working and I ran into a May army and every character I'd not seen yet. I also learned my brain is steadfast in its belief that I'm plus after I block a jump attack and will press 100% and die for it 95% of the time.

Yeah it just depends on what jump-in you use. Though I think you're often safe and you can do like a 5P/2P off it? Idk for sure

I'm glad other people are viewing the Strive experience the same way I am: a borderline dogshit game for QoL and UI saved entirely by amazing online and fun in-fight gameplay. I already can't count how many times I've sat here going "Please just let me play the game.." when dealing with connection lengths, random soft locks where I have to exit all the way out to the title screen, the lobby being itself, etc. I doubt the lobbies will be going anywhere since it's a staple ArcSys thing for whatever reason, but I'd at least expect fixes to connection. Here's to hoping a notable patch comes through sometime this year for it.

On a brighter note, I've actually grown fond of the ranked tower system in online. I hate that it involves the lobbies, but the idea is solid and I'm glad I'm not dealing with regular instances of being absolutely stomped or absolutely stomping someone where neither of us are gaining any knowledge in the process like what happens in MK11. Stealing from our resident youtuber's recent video, there definitely needs to be a separation of rank by character though. I'd be terrified pulling out anyone other than Gio on floor 10 / celestial yet fighting other players is the best way to learn a character.

I agree with all of this. Having to connect to the server just to get into the main menu is insane. The fact that it takes up to 2 minutes to connect is criminal. As is failing to connect 5 times in a row trying to fight someone in a lobby, or when you're sitting in training waiting for a match and for whatever reason it dumps you into the lobby. Ridiculous!

But the actual fighting is great and the rank system really does seem to be slotting people where they should be. I should know, I tumbled two floors down in my last session and I definitely deserved it lol.

The problem with the rank system is, is how fast it ranks you up and down.
Session of ranked usually goes like this for me:

Start at floor 8, body a fool 3 times, go up to 9.
Win more than I lose on 9 and rank up on the first or second match of a set.
Enter floor 10, get run over by a Chipp or Leo - back to 9.
Frustrated, losing to stuff I shouldn't lose to - back to 8.

Go fishing and practice combos and punishes in training mode. Next day the same shit.

I rank up and down so much mid set and it's just annoying that I never get to play a variety of characters on the same floor and then top that off with the dogshit server connection where you sometimes sit in training mode limbo where it doesn't look for a match anymore for half an hour or just boots you back to the main menu.

But yeah I love that game. Parks also don't work half the time but at least you find people to play 10-20 matches in a row with you.

I just walk into JP parks and get bodied by some floor 10 person who leaves and doesn't rematch after winning 1 game lol

FYI/Reminder the replays let you search and watch replays by criteria. So if you are curious what {insert-your-character-players} are doing to beat such and such character, you can go watch high floor matches where they are beating that character to see what went down.

Or you can go watch floor 1 matches just to see what that looks like.

I'm finally cluing into how much extra damage you get from R.I.S.C. Seems a little nuts given how fast it builds when you start blocking stuff. I don't know that I dislike the idea of the gauge in a bottle, but free lows at high levels, auto counter hits at max, and high levels of damage variance is a lot of "encouragement" to forget defense.

There is so much going on it's hard to really know how it all fits, but the amount you are discouraged to not be defensive in the game seems a little gratuitous. I doubt it needs all of it to convince people to play they way they are playing, which is all in all the time. Does it really need both negative penalty and RISC or at least ones that kick in so fast and hard? There is a good chance once the new game smell wears off, it may not be as much fun for a lot of people.

*Edit:
I don't think this is actually realistic but this seems like a lot of life 18269

Yeah while we're on the subject can you guys explain this bonus mechanic to me. Only system mechanic that still has me scratching my head, must have skipped the tutorial on it

So, after Anji came up here, I actually spent a week practising him!

I learned many more things that annoyed me: he has a tiny standing Dust reach, to get closeS you need to be closer than most of the cast, slow BUT short-ranged buttons (except farS, which is just terrible in all other ways), 6f poke means you cannot mash out of throw pressure, you don't get anything out of 6P because it pushes people so far off (and is so short range that P P 6P isn't a real option for you anyway), Fuujin often ending up a few pixels short at the end of combos (even using the medium charge version of it), air combos requiring you to be very cognizant of the opponent's height to not drop in the middle...

I will mention again that: he has the 3rd highest effective health in the game, his corner dmg can get absolutely ridiculous because Kou (the air spin) goes straight into jD that wall-bounces people repeatedly, his sweep is a thing of beauty because of its low-profiling, his twirl can do something no-one else in the game can do with its auto-parry, he has amazing anti-air options, and because of his great meterless dmg potential you have more freedom on how to spend your meter.

Anyway, today I decided to check out Ky, because he seems to do more of what I wish Anji did - he has the speed and reach to more actively try to get counter-hits on whiffs, and just feels faster to move around as. I would rather be playing Anji, because his fashion choices are a marvel, but he just felt way too high maintenance.
