Cassie Cage General Discussion Thread

I can name you few weakness of her right away. Just 1 viable KB, her FB sucks hard. Even when on combo you can miss her FB, SonicFox missed one. :D

1 month later, without balance patch he have completely different Tier list and Cassie Cage is on top. :D
And plenty more. Now if you check july tier list by most Cassie is suddenly at the top 6 of most of them. SonicFox decided to switch to Cassie and suddenly she became in almost everyone top tier list.
They maybe a people that were saying she is top tier in the begining, but that was pretty minor, compare to people that think she was "garbage".

I dont see anything broken in her, instead i see almost perfectly balanced character.
And i do think she had bad match ups.
That's because game is evolving. Obvious high-top tiers like Geras/Erron/Sonya/Jaqui were recognized much faster.
Probably "nobody" cared about Cassie competitively except few people (Gross/Foxy).
And they are playing with different char now. :D

You can combo into KB off of some of your most important tools. Yeah it’s not the best but if she had an Erron Black FB and garas KB no one would stand a chance against her. Just not having to play the wake up game and getting pressure off of every combo is huge. There’s so many matches where I don’t have to worry about wakeup, I don’t think she broken though, I just think she easily too 3 with her tools.

Does anyone know her Optimal Side Switch Kombos off of different starters? I thought they would be in the main post of the Kombo thread but they're not..

Cassie doesn't lose to Jade especially not yas queen. Cassie is uniquely equipped to check Jade on block unlike some characters since she has a ten frame shadow kick that reaches at round start, 11 frame advancing mid with safe options. Cassie bullies her up close with her superior offense/9 frame 0 on block mid. Shoulder is really strong against Jade too and makes zoning at a lot of ranges hazardous since shoulder can outright punish her low spark for example and if she scouts an air glaive she can go under it and punish. If Cassie opens her up she can keep restanding her and negate the oki game entirely.

This is big against a character that needs space to compete with you. All she needs to do is block a single staff normal and she can come in and start her game. Every staff normal or string is negative enough that she can't throw them out and just do whatever when she can't. Back 2 is -13 on block AND HIGH. Back 1, 2 is -19 on block so you can actually use your shadow kick normal to punish that. Forward 2,1 is -13 so come on in. Her safe staff attacks her off of things like 1,2,4 which is -6 and leaves you right in her face so it's time to guess whether Cassie is going to throw, forward 4, back 2,4 etc. Her forward walk speed is superb too.

I just picked up Cassie so in a couple weeks when I get solid with her, I'm gonna look into recording some Jade matches. Don't get me wrong, Jade does great against her but it's not like what people type of it being some unfair struggle. Gotta think outside the box and up that neutral.

Did you guys see Vienality where Biohazard lost to a Cassie player I think Shark Teeth who placed high there? I only mention this because it's not just people talking, it's players actually DOING IT in high level offline matches. Picking Jade versus Cassie isn't the struggle bus as advertised. People need to stop pretending like Cassie can't hang with her. The mu is 5-5.
Been trying to tell folks that lol

Yeah, you're right, I was approaching the MU all wrong. I have been beating Jades online if I play really patiently. And honestly, I've been playing this game like MKX from the start, it's that rushdown mindset and just the inexperience of actually playing footsies and neutral.

I've been noticing how playing patiently is rewarded in this game since I made the switch to Kano. Because he can't contest people with good buttons up close, you really have to wait until it's your turn and even if you try to steal it with a D1, some characters can still steal it back just as quick (scorpion, Geras).

Patience is really key for Jade.

Knowing how long the Glow lasts is a key factor in facing Jade with Digital Soldier.

As for the patience part of the post, replace Kano with Johnny and that's basically how I feel. He's not as risky as Kano due to his godlike D4, but good reads and spacing are the key to winning.

Had a few good matches with this insane Jax. Can someone please analyze and tell me what I can improve on? (No I don't play ranked)

Neutral jumping against Jax is not a good idea his attacks have a bigger hurt box it seems.

I noticed you weren't using wake-ups a lot. Using it to roll behind them and punish is really underused in this game but so useful.

Also when they're crouch blocking, just grab.

Don't confirm 3 after B24 if they're blocking cause if they know that 3 is duckable, they'll punish you as it happened. Do it at a distance for the KB or use F2 1+3 instead because it's harder to punish and has more pushback.

You need to block more against Jax, just wait for your turn and have the patience to punish him. Sometimes go for a grab punish if you're unsure if you have enough time for F4 or B2. And always block high, his lows don't lead to much.

When Jax jump kicks, back up and whiff punish with B24, just wait until he's pretty low to the ground so the kick won't hit you.

When they're in the corner and you think they'll wake up, neutral jump. You can get this combo with her from that: J4 * B13 * S1 * 34 +nut kick for restand or amp for 33% if they block J4 then dash and grab.

Lastly, learn to hit confirm B24 into lowgunshot, just practice is on an AI that blocks randomly and you'll get good at it.

The back to back combo you ended the second match with was SICK! Sad that that move is illegal XD

Hope that helps!

I like Sonicfox's Yaas Queen but I would probably not be able to play like this (especially as I like playing defensively) - and without that amount of experience and skill it might be just frustrating. To watch it is perfectly fun. :)
You can learn from these videos... Sonicfox uses different combos, enders... I see the reasons behind that.

You seen his last stream against Kombat? Maybe it's because Kombat is from an other world but damn I never thought Johnny could be such a problem for Cassie. It's like he does to Cassie what she does to all the other characters as it was Johnny to dictate the pace of the match.
Anybody got the same problems when they fought him online?

I picked Johnny Cage (just for fun) today but damn he is just worse version of other higher tier characters. :D
I had no problem with Cassie against Johhny but that does not mean he is not good.

Cassie is much easier to play better than Johnny however I start feeling that much more neutral and footsies skill required for Johnny Cage. No fast mids saving the day - every high moves needs to be prepared properly (plus frames, conditioning). And it is not special skill but need to get used to it as most of the cases need to be frame perfect not to be poked out.
I will mess with him a bit to figure it out but so far he is just frustration. :D Especially against mashers and keep aways.

But when you win with Johnny, you actually have that sense of accomplishment since you had to work for the win.

That looks true...until it is too annoying and does not worth the brain cells. :)
But it is too early to me to judge as I can not even input the proper strings and cancels automatically - not mentioning the frame perfect jails to earn respect. It will probably be a borderline when I will switch from "total sucker" to "damn good" if I get used to the moves. :)
Or remain sucker. :p

I made it to Master in KL mainly using Cage, and I didn't start out well with Cage at all. Just gotta put the time in, you'll get it.

I played Kung Lao for 3 days and it was enough I maxed out the entertainment lol.
Johnny Cage looks more fun to me (neutral-footsies) so probably I will learn him. But he will probably nothing compared to my Scorpion/Cassie Cage.
But playing more characters is just fun - I do not go to tournament either.

Flash parry was nice in MKX with Tremor. :D
