MK11 SHANG TSUNG Discussion

Bois, it seems that Shang is a delicate flower. Combos that do not work on females also whiff on him. One of Kabal's best corner combos whiffs on him, or becomes like 3 just frames in 1, whereas it is easy on the other males. Guess it is good for the Shang mains.
Also, 2 variations of him are the same, krypt keeper and the one you call warlock, fire&brimstone lol.

So after using the Reptile Slide, the KB for it seems a little buggy. After doing 114, Ground Skull AMP, microdash, 3, Slide AMP I get the KB maybe 2/5 times. I know you are supposed to do the slide at max distance but even then it sometimes doesn't happen. (Reptile slide is just for Shang swag, using his default slide seems better except no KB)

My two tourney variations are Brimstone and Soulsumtinorother. No Warlock to be found. This a bug? Wasnt able to dled Shang as early as everyone else, and this is bugging the hell out of me.

Guessing Brimstone = Warlock?
 
Wasn't there a post with a quick overview of his bnb's? I am having problems landing the s1, dash 4 route after amp sparks, often times the last fireball won't connect and i think someone posted that we should use s2 instead or so?

I am also anti airing with both, s1 and s2, quite okayish but s2 has a better hitbox imo

Maybe one general discussion forum for his tourney and one for his non tourney variations too? I think most of us focus on the tournament variations and many forums have divided threads. Oh, do we have a discord? It is not linked on the other discords

I just do dash S4 after the upskulls amp instead of S1 and then S4. You lose 7dmg for easier execution. Combo with S1 is 316dmg and without it´s 309 if I remember correctly

What are you guys doing in the corner besides trying to get the F242? I´m having a hard time finding something useful.

I like to go into straight skulls on a hit confirm. Keep them standing basically for more pressure and throws. Or end something simple into soul steal and try to do that character's corner combo lol

Obviously you can't finish the strings and still get straight skull to keep them standing, so you have to stagger and then do like:

B11 skull
F24 skull
11 skull

That sort of thing.

Probably not the best thing to do damage wise, but I like it. haha
 
I don't like that optimal damage comes from repeating ground fireballs over and over. The damage from then should be scaled heavier, and the higher combo ender come from soul steal. This way you have a reason to morph.

The damage boost and KBs are why you want to soul steal. You're giving up a little damage for more damage potential later on.

Ground fireballs are highest damage but leave them full screen, slide is middle damage and gives the better knockdown and corner carry

In my opinion you should be Soul Stealing to get them to respect the move in neutral. The actual move is godlike and it's like it's balanced around the idea that you have to morph(preferably with a bar of meter) to be able to use it.

So it seems like the damage buff actually lasts through the round, I have a clip here where I finish the round with a normal soul steal, and then immediately do a S3U2 combo which gets buffed damage. Perhaps the the amplified version lasts the full 9 seconds?

Which is extremely situational (like why would you want to morph into your enemy character if he struggles in the mu vs shang, or if you don't know how to use it), you are giving up damage for a potential thing, and also you need to consider that morph back can be super risky. Also repeating the same move over and over in a combo is not very cool to see.
