Street Fighter V General Discussion

It's all so very confusing.
There are also entire lists of setups and set play designed entirely to bait dps and punish them. There are also safe jump setups that cover all options so that if they do you block and if they don't you meaty.
*shrug* Fair enough, but no other move in the game has the ability and utility of a DP.. And of course THEY STILL EXIST. Just gotta commit a bar for an invincible move that auto wins vs almost everything in the game in almost any situation in the game. Lets also not forget that I don't feel they were OP in and of themselves, or that they werent balanced vs various factors, simply that having one was a huge advantage vs not having one and I would have preferred every character have one (this would need thought to implement, I don't mean turn Vega's wall bounce into a DP, etc) vs the change we actually got..

Shrug, I guess Im a scrub because I hate random, neutral DPs and the mileage they get, and yes, I know, everyone but me is god like and never gets blown up by UTTERLY stupid Kens and such spamming idiocy. Its not like someone like Itazan lost to that horseshit in a TOURNAMENT Nope. Never... Everyone but me. Totally makes sense.

Well they had utility but they also had probably the worst risk/reward in the whole game. Name another option you go for that has a reward of 4-5 times lower than the hp you're risking. That being said if you think neutral dps are random it's your problem. If you mash buttons up close they'll blow you up, if you don't they lose. If itazan lost to "random" dps I can assure you they were anything but random. This is the daigo fallacy in a nutshell. If daigo does a neutral dp into ca to kill someone it's a gdlkreadbro, if a bronze ken does it it's so random.

The bronze ken probably was random and followed up with a full screen hk tatsu lol.
But i agree 100%. Insted of complaining about random dps why not assess your own play and why you get hit by them.

of course it's still random when bums do it lol.

Knowing when to make decisions makes all the difference and is why Daigo isn't a bronze bum . Just like doing random sweeps until you get the hit once doesn't make you equivalent to Daigo either when he does sweeps, I'm sorry lul. Dps we're such a strong tool that they're just bound to work out eventually if you do them enough times it happens

I literally played with a season 2 versions of dp all through season 1 and I turned out ok lul. Get better defense I guess instead of yoloing you're way out of everything when you can just... block sometimes. I respect Infiltrations opinion and everything but most of the bums agreeing with him were the ones doing jab antiairs instead of dp. The type of player that cant actually react and aa dp you, but have no issues mashing dp after they blocked a jump in and calling it "defense" ok lul

Maybe it's just me but "but thinking about my offense ( against 5 specific toptier braindead characters who only had the tool) " in situations evertume ryu is -2 and whether I should push jab or not jab cause he might yolo isn't something I'll really miss. You can still yolo now it's just the bums that have to be smart about it. Poor bums man having to think before they yolo when they lose in their dash dash sweep footsies lul

I see your point but I don't think random is the correct word. That bronze ken is going through the same process daigo does. He's using his(limited and flawed) game knowledge and experience to make a read. Sure his understanding of the risk/reward involved is objectively incorrect in a vacuum, but it's probably not incorrect using his experience. Low level players mash buttons as soon as they're in range and they rely on non airtight blockstrings, they've also got terrible punishes when that ken makes the wrong read/guess.

Whenever I lose to people doing stuff like that I just accept that I wasn't good enough to teach them why it's wrong.

Side note though I think I could get silver with just kens hk tatsu and s1 dps.

So, I've decided to drop this game. The game just doesn't make sense to me. The game is all frame traps, and even though the math isn't difficult to understand, putting it into real play has proven nearly impossible for me. So frustrated at this game and at FG's in general for being nothing but frame traps these days.

So what other option is there for opening people up? Other than unreactable 50/50s.

I'm an old school player, grew up in the ST days. I know it's antiquated, but we didn't have ways to open people up with frame traps like SFV. It was all read/react based. Slower, yes, but felt fair. Now it's like once your turn is over, it's not really over. SFV is just frustrating to me and has lost it's appeal. I'm pretty disillusioned with it, pretty disappointed with it, and to be honest, I regret buying it.

And how exactly is a frame trap not read/reaction based? I mean it's cool if you don't like the game but for like 20+ years frame traps have been one of, If not the most common methods of hitting people in the face.

@MylesWright_

I'll be back 3ing
I don't know whether SFV is more balanced now or whether it's just a fresh top tier with some old faces

I had a long post written up that was fairly hateful but in the end, it's not worth it. The fact that you all define a DPs risk/reward being the damage it does vs the damage you get off a CC punish shows to me that you either massively misunderstand what is happening around you, or you're arguing for the sake of it, and further, the fact that no one has acknowledged that I've said in just about every post on this subject that I've made, that I didn't feel DPS were op, or an issue in and of themselves, merely the fact that there was significant margin between the haves and the have nots. But no one argues this, they choose to insult my play and run their mouths, insinuating that I have an issue with DPS because I'm bad. I am bad, and it has zero reason to do with random DPS being a stupid mechanic.

But, in the end, they are changed, so no more scrub crutch I CAN'T THINK SO ILL DP bullshit. Too bad, so sad that that's no longer an issue.

It's less hype when watching tournaments I guess, but it's equivalent to throw loops and the idea that that is a next level amazing mind game when it's not.. it's simply a willful removal of oneself from mind games. It's a conscious decision to say 'the other person is relying on logic and prediction and preset rules to make decisions, I will defeat this by simply denying the inherent mindgame and opting out of it entirely' and this *IS* an intelligent thing to do and it works when used carefully and with restraint.. but it's not a next level thinking 6 steps ahead thing , it's simply not thinking at all and hoping that the purely illogical nature will win out vs the logic at play on the other side. The 'ume-shoryu' is this in a nutshell. Screaming DEE GOD DAMN PEEEEEE in the neutral trying to catch buttons is the same thing.

Shazzy seems to understand the meaning of risk/reward at least.

I don't know how to explain it better. Maybe the best thing is to just say that frame traps are different today, or they feel different today than they did 20 years ago. Frame traps existed but not like they do now. Now they're built into the game, almost like we're being dictated to about how best to play each character. I feel like individuality and uniqueness is gone, and each player is just doing their best to be a cookie cutter version of that dictation. Older games, to me, feel like you can express your own style of play better than today's games. There was no "set" way of playing a character. There were better ways, and more efficient ways, but the frame traps didn't dictate the game the way they do in new games.

Maybe my hopes were just too high that SFV wouldn't play like this.

So according to this I'm playing the worst character in the game? Nothing I'm not used to I suppose
I honestly agree with it too, not that I'm good enough to say what Alex is or is not capable of in the right hands. But he certainly feels gimped as fuck. I feel like I have a better chance to succeed with my week 1 Laura than that character.

He's definitely not easy but I'm not too advanced at this game so idk how much my opinion matters.
