Kenshi was downplayed for over a year on the forums. MMH is seen as the best character in the game and known to quite possibly have barely an even matches for a long time now. It's about to become a year with EVO right around the corner since MMH was released. You can't really compare MMH to any character back then for MK9. This is a very unique and odd case indeed.
This is true, however MMH was also downplayed and we were told by numerous people that Jupiter not placing at NEC meant that the character was not that big of a deal and everyone had been 'freaking out' for no reason. Then when Jupiter won won APEX it didn't matter because it wasn't a major.
I was ridiculed for bringing up the fact that you'd already made Top 8 with MMH prior to NEC against pre-patch characters and told that it was old news and you were no longer relevant (and in general, long before Jupiter MMH was usually explained away by "That's just REO"). And Jupiter's win at Civil War will also probably be downplayed to an extent based on what people feel was a light roster.
Also, I think that somewhat like Kenshi, a lot of people did not have first-hand experience against a true top-level MMH and were generating their assumptions of MU knowledge from people who made short-term runs with or pocketed the character in their local scenes.
So despite everything, I feel like MMH is only now getting his true credibility as the absolute monster of a threat that he is. If MMH players do well at a higher-profile event like MLG or EVO, expect the floodgates to open and the revolution to begin
