Wonder Woman General Discussion Thread

Wow. "Fun" is not what I would use to describe this last online ranked session. Just me chasing down a Robin and eating . . . whatever his boomerang type deals are called. It feels like the options are to get the life lead and then lame out by waiting for time to run down or run them down. I love Wonder Woman the comics character. I do not love NRS interpretation of the character in INJUSTICE 2 at all.
what is Aphrodite forbidding exactly anyways
I prefer "Face it; you're done" and the new "Submit to me

Is her upwords shield bash useful for like anything?
It is cool in combos if by some miracle you made it in and stayed in long enough to get started.

It is also a good wake-up if you are not playing versus Batman or a traited Supes.

great wakeup for people that want to jump at you and does a good chunk of damage when MB'd. It's 0 on block and an overhead when you use a bar if they back off outside of sweep distance.

Main combo extender in the corner after a juggle.

Using a tournament like Combo Breaker this early in a game's life to determine tier lists is probably a waste of time. The game is not even a month old, which means people haven't had time to really get to know how to use new characters. It's not a surprise the most common characters were either characters with very obvious Day 1 strenghts, or characters from the first game with similar playstyles. In WW's case, it makes sense that since she's changed a lot since Inj 1 not many people would be able to play her at a high competative level. That doesn't mean she's bottom tier. Maybe she turns out to be a bottom character, but at this point it's too early to definitevly say one way or the other.

The only thing I could find on Aphrodite forbidding something was forbidding swine (considered unclean animal) from entering her temple. So maybe it's more telling the opponent that they're not worthy? IDK, videogames are silly sometimes.

Asking for buffs or nerfs already is so not acceptable at all... the game has been out for 2 weeks only, at least wait two months (at the VERY least IMO)
I agree, it's too soon to ask for anything, but 2 months for the "very least" is a bit exagerated. We already have a general idea of who is very good and who lsn't, and the next few weeks will help to make things clearer. We should be able to etablish a decent tier list in a month.

From my (casual) point of view, I think that WW can be a viable in the competitive scene, she's a solid character even if she probably needs more time to find some good tech to make her more reliable. The only thing that makes me doubt about her viability on the competitive scene is the randomness of the trait. In a game where a frame can make the whole difference, I honestly don't think that the random should be thing in a competitve game like I2. I don't personally mind because I think it's fun to adapt to the trait chosen by the RNG in a casual match, but a pro player who wants for exemple the air dash buff (Hermes blessing if I remember correctly, I'm not sure) to get out of a critical situation but gains the bracelets buffs, it should be very frustrating.

So in matches when I get the bracelet parry buff I just straight up ignore it. Haven't found a good reason to parry with her at all, and I haven't found anything it let's her punish that she couldn't anyway. Anything out there for Artemis tech?

If you successfully parry you can 11 or d12 into stuff if you were responding to melee

It allows you to punish a multitude of non projectile's that you would normally be unable to punish. For example most F3's and B3's in the game are pretty safe on block. If you read your opponent will try one and parry it successfully you can punish it. Another example is Banes elbow drop. It's really unsafe on block but he's sitting on the ground basically out of range or low profiling her attacks. I had a hard time finding an attack of hers that could punish for big damage. The parry allows you to retaliate much faster and you can use your normal combo starter if you parry it. I don't think anyone has tested everything yet but give it a go in practice mode if your curious about an attack. I found it hilarious that she could parry Grods gorilla charge. If you have her trait that buffs parry on the damage is massive.

You mentioned the Gorilla Charge and things like that are what I was pondering after last night's time in the Supergirl and Robin grinder. I used to be able to parry teleports in IGAU but in this one I can only block or evade Supergirl's teleport rather than parry it. The parry will catch Grodd's charge but not Bane's. And with the parry we used to have in the shield stance no longer present we are in trouble when Superman meter burns that flying punch these days.

In vanilla igau people could parry Bane's charge, and back when he was terrible they changed it. I think since Grodd is new they didn't think to do it for him, or perhaps since he can cancel it they want people to bait parries with it sometime?

This character right now is probably my favorite. Seems simple, very negative on most things and on paper her trait seems worthless. right? right?

I however am starting to feel like im understanding how to play with her. the neutral game because of her range is pretty good. but what makes it outstanding is the traits. Best traits by far are the shield buff, and the bracelets. dmg reduction is also good, and lasso is ok, hermes seems worthless.

Shield buff allows you to throw shields and nullify all projectiles already in the air (something that you may not have known), which is a free counter to zoners and checks mid screen. Catch a MB F3 with the shield buff? well, thats 500 dmg midscreen, 620 in the corner

Bracelets is ridiculously strong in the dmg buff dept, and makes the buff last a really really long time. you trait bracelets, and you parry the second hit of brainiacs MB divekick? say goodbye to 700 health, minimum.

this character is flying under the radar right now IMO. I think she rewards patient play and people who like the counter-hit style. her biggest weakness is the stupid range of her low starter and the fact that you cant cancel it

I wish I could not know anything about Wonder Woman and just come into I2 fresh. I just played a Supergirl and it felt like she could do WTF she wanted and all I could do was hope to guess right.

As WONDER WOMAN.

A character who literally has fought and soundly defeated Power Girl and Supergirl (and even Superman) and has been doing so for decades.

But NRS acts like WW is outclassed in both speed AND strength by Supergirl.

The disconnect in the design and their disposition is infuriating.

Here's hoping the next game from them will actually deliver WW's powerset in full and at the levels commensurate with her deal from the books and that the story gets over this Superman's Side Chick thing it seems to be hellbent on selling.

Slow Starter
Probably Brainiac.

Shes definitely viable. There's no way to tell if she has any "crippling" mu's as of now. The only one to me that feels reallllly tough is Atrocious. But we need to just adapt and use what we got. This character is solid. She doesnt have anything that is reallly cheap like the top characters currently have.
I realize this isn't a Brainiac thread but I've seen a few people say they think Brainiac is the worst ... why is that? I personally think he's at least mid tier. Wondering what I'm missing.

Ready to lose your head?
Kinda bored atm, and have a few minutes to spare, so I figured I'd give my two cents. Mind you, I played the beta since it's first day, so I've had a little more time adjusting to the meta of the game as well as against MUs like Atrocitus, Supergirl, Canary and Beetle. Not to mention playing the first game from release til death, so legacy characters are more or less well known too. My current MUs numbers for her:

Atrocitus: 5-5
Aquaderp: 6-4 her favor
Batman: 4-6 his favor
Bane: 6-4 her favor
Black Adam: 5-5
Black Canary: 6-4 WW favor
Blue Beetle: 6-4
Brainiac: 5-5, maybe 6-4 for WW
Captain Cold: 5-5, maybe 6-4, need to run the MU more but it feels like she wins it
Catwoman: 5-5, maybe 6-4, MU experience from Semij, he won when punishing my mistakes and unsafeness, but would lose when playing it patiently and smart, so still a work in progress
Cheetah: 6-4 WW favor
Cyborg: 4-6; mainly his projectîle trait that we can't parry for some reason
Darkseid: 5-5
Deadshot: 4-6 his favor, she doesn't lose to his zoning; it's his unnecessary neutral and 50/50s and free wakeup that she can't really counter
Doctor Fate: 5-5
Firestorm: honestly need to run the MU more so can't really say
Flash: 5-5, she can keep him out for a long ass time, but he gets in eventually and makes it hell, so Idk
Grodd: 6-4 her favor
Green Lantern: 5-5
Green Arrow: 5-5, maybe 4-6
Harley: 5-5
Joker: 5-5
Poison Ivy: 6-4
Robin: 6-4
Supergirl: 5-5
Superman: 5-5
Swamp Thing: near no MU experience so Idk
Wonder woman: 5-5

Shes pretty straight forward so the grind is really just adapting to the MUs. The ones where she wins, if because she can abusing jumping in with JI3, and/or can turtle hard, building meter fullscreen while chipping them. On a few, like Captain cold, she kinda just nulifies their tools by being able to shield through everything and/or parrying all their options.

The ones where she loses is because of their ridiculousness. Like massive plus frames, MB on Block mixups, 50/50s, etc. Basically the characters most people feel need adjusting either way.

Her even MUs are the ones where she and the opponent have to respect one another because they can hit back each time. The reason I feel Aquaderp might be in her favor is because he HAS to walk back into the corner or risk hanging himself trying to challenge her midrange since she can punish anything he goes for. And then in the corner, she can bully him safely and maintain the life lead.

But yeah idk, just my two cents. I can go in depth more per MU, but this is a broad outline

This is what I'd change them to, minus robin, joker, arrow, firestorm (gonna play Dink more and see about this, haven't gotten to play much yet) and cheetah as I haven't really played vs them. Granted, I'm not as seasoned as Akro and haven't played a ton of good players... so take this how you will. I just like discussing this stuff. lol

@Akromaniac27 how do you deal against atro ? His trait is really strong. Have a good neutral.

How do you guys approach her neutral? I find myself turtling a lot with her and throwing out random MB Shield Charges at mid-screen to keep them on their toes. Also get a lot of mileage out of B2 - Lasso. Problem is, against an opponent who knows 223 can be interrupted, knows to stand block just outside of sweep range and respects the plus frames on shield charge, she struggles to get much started. I play Superman so I'm a bit spoiled by the utility of F23 to help start offense.

Also, the fact that B3 after F23 is so inconsistent for me really hurts my game when trying to punish.

Here are my ww thoughts now having played about 100ish matches in a row with her in ranked from never playing her before (but combo practice done and the like)

1) I lost like my first 11 games cause of course I would, I never played her before
2) closed out on a 11 game winstreak, spooky
3) ok long story short without any technical etc, she for lack of a more eloquent term wants to play street fighter. Very neutral focused, and when people also want to play neutral shes alright to fantastic. I had realllllll struggles vs anyone who wanted to zone, even something as simple as the whole batarang/bats trait gamut. In what I originally thought was her ace in the whole in counterzoning with air shield was not as great as I hoped as it moves you backwards and slows your momentum too much. I "won" the exchange if it hits, but I gained no ground and am basically back at ground zero.

So I don't think shes poop and I can even get the friggin b3 combo now 90% of the time but I found zoning to be quite frustrating as there's no way in but to just get in. Her MB roll is kinda bleh.

I rate her
7/10 grodds

grodd being a measurement of taste, not tier as shes still way better than grodd is.
