Street Fighter V General Discussion

Any thoughts on Sagat or G?
Sagat seems to play similarly to the Street Fighter IV series. Search Bonchan on YouTube. He is already doing well.

At this moment, G is arguably the more interesting character. He has a mid range projectile, a command throw that juggles, two types of dash punches, and a flame kick. All of these special move may have different properties and juggle potential depending on the level of the "Presidentiality Meter". V-Trigger 1 is currently considered superior to V-Trigger 2. Albeit three bars, V-Trigger 1 gives G the ability to cancel special moves into each other, which results in some damaging combos. The V-Skill also turns into a huge, multi-hitting fireball. Best of all, the "Presidentiality Meter" is at its maximum for the entire duration of the V-Trigger, regardless of whether G gets knocked down or not. G has no three frame normal attacks and no EX reversal attacks so his defense is lacking. V-Trigger 2 gives access to an armored command throw, but this move is very slow.

I'm picking up the game, so far I like Ibuki (and apparently she's really good) can anyone direct me toward a good resource or give a basic breakdown?
Download the FAT app, frame assistant tool. It’s got detailed frame data, list properties of character’s moves, some bnbs and all the character’s stats. Along with tools like an oki calculator, frametrap calculator, punish calculator etc. Plus there’s a section called Gief’s Gym which gives you exercises from beginner to advanced to do and explains how the game works. It has my seal of approval, and check out r streetfighter too i guess

Any thoughts on Sagat or G?
Sagat’s a fundamentally sound character where a player like Bonchan will find success especially over Nash who he should drop for good. The kind of playstyle that kills scrubs online of course but ultimately to me he doesnt havw the goods. I think VT2 has damage though and is 2 bars so it’ll prob be the default. His fireballs have impressive recovery and hurtbox, they’re better than in the last game, but relying on fireballs on dps just isnt good in the longterm. They dont do enough damage to convince me to stop taking risks and respect his neutral

Sagat could benefit from a more stable neutral by buffing his normals and his vtrigger 1, then he’ll be interesting. Make his Tiger Cannons do massice chip or even allow chipouts, that would be sick. Right now, he’ll just be ok in the longrun at high level, if you’re bonchan. G seems to be where its at which sucks because I dont have the character lul

It's all so very confusing.
Yeah, I was looking for it written somewhere, but the frame data is an option I turn on and is shown in a box in practice mode, apparently, ? Or am I still missing it.

Edit: And I don't consider myself more than average for this site. I usually go for low execution characters, but I could adequately play Brood Mother in MK X, so that's not an exclusive thing.

Ibuki is "hard" as far as SFV is concerned... but not really difficult when looked at in comparison to other fighting games. What I always considered difficult on her, and I think what mostly gave her the reputation as a high(er) execution character where her bomb setups/traps/resets.. but, unless something has changed with the release of G and Sagat (I heard there was a small patch?) she doesnt use her bomb trigger any more, but VT2 instead -its a MONSTER.

I can go in to some detail on her if you want, but a very simple breakdown is:

She's good at overwhelming the opponent, but she doesnt have to play a crazy pressure game. She absolutely *can*, and staggering her st.mp/lp is a something you see a lot out of really good Ibukis. You just never know what those can lead to and its terrifying to contest them. Otherwise, she wants to do what everyone in V does, and thats control a space she/you are comfortable in, and look for the chance to go ham and eggs. If you knock someone down, make sure you know what your meaty/oki options are - that is universal in V but where Ibuki is such a bully, it goes extra for her. Ibuki *never* worries about getting in, ex kunai is a get-in-free card - but the really good Ibukis understand when to use, and obviously beating the opponent in the neutral without wasting a bar is preferable.. but she's not sitting on a lot of health, and knowing when to use this, and just as importantly, what to do after, is huge.

So yeah. The space she occupies pre-ham-and-eggs depends on who you're playing (character and player), but somewhere around Vskill, f.HK-ish range.. abuse your speed, moving in and out, and looking for the hit, whiff punish or kunai to get going. Once you get going, keep going. Dont be stingy with her vt2... a large part of it's power is that even on block it can do a lot for you, creating mix, stopping pressure and momentum from the opponent, givng you a moment to breath, etc. Learn to hit confirm well with her - I've found her very easy to confirm with, even compared to other V characters.. etc.

Resources and vids are tricky.. if part of what you're after are combos, I's just watch some Fuji play and steal what he's doing.. not just combos, but watch him use VT and what setups and such he favors, as well as what he likes to do post-KD

Frame data:

There is also an option in training mode to show the data as you go, you just have to get used to it. It's not a static listing like Inj/MK.

Now that i think about it, S1 Guile was a worse Sagat in a completely broken meta but you’ll deadass have people saying things like “Guile was always so gdlk man, i knew on realease how strong he was and they actualy buffed him!!1!!”

lul watch them do the revisionist history in s4 for sagat when “bonchan develops the character” aka buffs and nerfs to meta results

I think Sagat is good, fun to play and can't wait to see Bonchan show him off at CC.

G to me looks like Gohan. He has so much potential that hasn't been released yet.

Hearing great stuff about G, sagat's opinions have steadily become more positive. And what's the recovery on Sagat's fireballs? Seems he recovers pretty darn fast.

I have to admit... and I might get flack for this... but I just don't like G. At all. His entire aesthetic and personality and just the whole "President of the World" theme is just not for me at all, and it prevents me from enjoying his gameplay. Because I might actually enjoy his gameplay, but because of it being attached to that character, I just can't. I just can't look past it. I have never been able to just look at a character as a "function", I need to have the character appeal to me as a whole before I can enjoy it.

I kinda felt the same way with Abigail, except I didn't like his gameplay at all either. There's literally nothing about Abigail I like, where with G I could maybe like his gameplay... And honestly, it kinda annoys me. If only his gameplay was unappealing as well, then I could just ignore him like I do with Abi.

Sagat is... Sagat. It's cool he's back, but he's not a character for me. Never been much of a fan of the shotoclones, but I like him as a character, though his story was kinda weird. No spoilers though. ^^

He's so much more than "president of the world", that is clearly a façade. Most likely he's tied to the Illuminati, the theories around him are really interesting.
Some say he's a robot just like G, some say he's actually Gill, others say he was sent by Gill to unite people under his dogma, others say he's Q before he was experimented on by the Illuminati, I mean the story could take us anywhere with him.

This is SF. People pick characters based on cup size not complex lore implications. What are you smoking.
