I think if it proves anything it's that he's a good player either way. It's ridiculous to say Slips' placement proves something. He lost to two Kitana's, his worst matchup. It was GGs with Konqrr and we know each other, on another day he might have beaten me. Slips narrowly loses to top placing Kit's so somehow he can't compete like the characters in top 16? Nonsense.
Sooooo you are trying to tell me Cyrax sucks also and needs a buff b.c. he was not in the top 16 either? ooooookkkkaaaayyyyWhich characters did we see in the top 16??
Sub Zero, Reptile, Smoke, Mileena, Kitana, Jax, Johnny Cage, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Kabal, Shang Tsung, and Raiden.
This is a huge portion of the cast; 12 characters, and NRS should give themselves a pat on the back for how balanced the game is to actually achieve that feat.
I saw every character on stream today apart from Jade and Quan Chi.
I think it says something if Jax is better than Scorpion.
The Jax player beat Online Tony, who in turn [Online Tony] beats Michelangelo.
Amazing stuff.
So it'd be nice to have Scorpion buffed to the point he could be prominent in a top 16 like these characters were. (Jax just got his butt kicked in the top 16 though, not one good round even, but he got there!)
I don't think he really needs much past the wakeup move that goes through attacks plus is safe on block, as well as the fastest teleport to deal with heavy zoners.
this is extremely powerful holy shit, it's even better because after the tele reset the opponent normally expect the crossup overhead so the low is even trickier, he has so many options of this reset it's rediculous.@ Baba
I saw that and liked it a lot. If you did enhanced spear off of f4 at that range, it would make it a safe 50/50 (E. Spear recovers quicker on block and can't be ducked).
@ Pimp
People keep saying "Scorpion is a good character he's just really unsafe" and don't even see how that's not a walking contradiction. While Slips will probably come on here to say it was human error, I honestly thought Slips was playing solid and made more good decisions than his opponent. The problem was, there are far more opportunities for Scorpion to make a mistake than Kitana and so Scorpion loses the advantage in the long haul.
I think he also did an instant air teleport at one point. It seems like a really good setup for a throw if your opponent doesn't know about it.this is extremely powerful holy shit, it's even better because after the tele reset the opponent normally expect the crossup overhead so the low is even trickier, he has so many options of this reset it's rediculous.
It actually proves (my) point; I rephrase it for better understanding:It's ridiculous to say Slips' placement proves something. He lost to two Kitana's, his worst matchup.
I really like the idea of a feint or cancel for Spear. That could be devastating. For Scorpion, it's all about nickel-and-dimes until you can cash in a combo. Condition with 1/11/111 strings at short-range and hellfire at long-range, then once you've instilled fear into them, pop a spear for a combo or reset. His mix-ups, although potent, cannot be hit-confirmed and our thus very risky. Hellfire also acts as a good zoning tool due to quick start-up and tracking ability, and, against insta-air fireballs, it enables mind games with EX Spear. Teleport and Takedown and their EX Versions are best reserved for combos due to being unsafe on whiff and block.
To be honest, the only thing Scorpion might need is a feint or cancel for Spear, so if he successfully baits a jump from 3/4-screen, he doesn't have to worry about a jump-ok teleport punish when he goes for anti-air spear combo.
i noticed it too ive tried it in training mode and it has to be super instant in order for the punch to whiff but on whiff it's recovery seems quite fastI think he also did an instant air teleport at one point. It seems like a really good setup for a throw if your opponent doesn't know about it.
