Scorpion General Discussion

On oki (opponents wakeup), been trying out @SHAOLIN’s Block, D1 f3 option select. Works pretty well. If they wakeup throw you tech, if they back roll the f3 can connect, if they wakeup u2/u3 you block, if they forward roll you teleport. The teleport can be blocked though.
Against anybody who knows about that OS it is full combo punishable on forward roll. And in the corner the forward roll is the most valueable and probably most common wake up anyway - for those who does not know about the OS (but they might just start mashing and get caught by teleport once).

I prefer using my brain on OKI lol. But it looks like Scorpion can not be brainded on this either (just against ignorant people).

Even in the corner it's strong, maybe even stronger. Instead of having to worry about all their options to WU or escape the corner like most characters would, all you have to do is make a 50/50 read. Will they Forward Roll so you'll grab, or will they do anything else so you'll OS. It makes his corner game stronger than most.

Gonna be using this myself whenever possible.

I haven't dabbled with the OS but it sounds great. Does it only work on "long" input leniency?

Because I'm thinking of changing that to medium due to how often I get Death Spin when trying to walk forward into f4 or Burning Spear when trying to sweep.

I know the liu kang gap but I couldn't interrupt at all in like 100+ ping. I feel like if I'm blocking jax I've already lost.
If you mash at all during blockstun you usually get counter hit. You gotta really wait for the gap, then you get through with your poke or 11, 100% as the gap is huge.

Does anyone have a list of all of the characters that have the "female hitbox" that require the additional combo dash ro be consistent? The reason I ask is because I am pretty sure I had read somewhere that some female characters actually have the male hitbox and some male characters (iirc johnny cage?) have the smaller hitbox.

Yes it is strong of course. And dirty like hell of course. :)
And predictible.
I think Scorpion has already good corner game without OS. Being unpredictible is worth the effort and makes you better player.
But it is personal preference.

Against OS the risk reward is in the defenders favor I think (full combo vs a potential throw as he can tech it).

But do not worry 99% of the players will never know what happens. :)

The only problem is if they jump on wakeup. Was doing this last night and my opponent started neutral jumping on wakeup so my f3 was whiffing. But you kinda condition them to jump, so it’s easy to punish if you fake the OS.

I can post some clips later if necessary.

Arghhh, then the million dollar question (concern) is can they punish with NJP-Combo on the way down? That makes it a bit less powerful in the corner. Won't be able to get on until like 10pm Tonight.

Would y’all like to see some match videos from me?
Yea def, always welcome for people like me learning a new character.

Yes they can. I had to stop doing it. But like I said, once they start doing that you can fake the OS then D2 or another anti air. Maybe even walk back and whiff punish.

That was what I pointed out. OS is cool but as soon as they are countering it is back to mind game which forces not doing the OS but other one.

E.g. If you just do a meaty F3/11 on wake up you can counter everything except U3 (and it is not a big deal to eat).
If you sense u3/others you can bait it for more punish.

But this is just my approach.

If the OS has low reward for high risk it is not worth doing it to me. It looks like this now for Scorpion.

No the OS is still very good. But since you aren’t meaty’ing they can easily neutral jump or jump out. This is why you gotta mix up the OS with meaty’s. The OS is just one oki option, not the only oki option.

Ok no arguing anymore. :) I am against the OS anyway so I am not independent.

Does wake up D1/S1 also punish it? I do not know who meaty it is but if jump comes out I guess 7f too.

Wake up buttons seems dangerous too.

Here’s one match vs a good player named “Eyedol”. We played a pretty long set, this was the last match. Had a great connection vs him, it was refreshing.

Was whiff punishing his pokes a lot, Scorpion is great at that. Also peep the reaction to the short hop, that was clean lol.

I’m gonna try and find my elgato so I can get some sets uploaded. But I’ll have to settle for these short twitter videos for now.

This is how I play most of the time with Searing Rage Scorpion. Footsies, space control, wakeup abuse, and not dropping combos.

I think it’s very important to practice your execution everyday. Even though Scorpion’s combos aren’t that hard, some timings can be easily messed up in the moment. Specifically f3 after amp teleport. I sometimes do f3 too early before the amp TP even recovers, therefore f3 doesn’t come out.

He did eat the OS teleport as Kounter. :)
Good whiff punishes I wonder if you conditioned him to do it by 100 throw before that or he did just not wanted to block.

I may upload a game from the last 10 matches played today with my friend but to be honest he was pretty demoralized today and not a good player. But of course I am not that good either. :)
Let me check if there is any good.

We played about 30 games, so yeah a lot of conditioning. This is why I love playing long sets, so much more fun playing advanced mind games.

Me too. Unfortunately nothing is worth uploading as my opponent was not that good nothing exciting about that.
There was a match where I could and had to throw around 7-8 times then the other match I whiff punished everything like you lol. And of course I was the throw noob and lucky mothef.. :)

Hi guys.
Last few days I picked Cassie and playing with her (and a bit Scorp not to forget it :) ). I ran into many Scorpion players who used Death Spin with Searing Rage variation.

I have to tell that death spin is not annoying at all. You respect it as all the other moves (teleport respect is much bigger).
Common complaints: can not punish, good anti air, neutral fuck up, etc.

1. From max range yes it can be difficult or impossible to punish (I call max range when the first 2 spin whiffs). But in that case you can whiff punish it. You can whiff punish even after only the first hit whiffing if you are moving luckily and do not freeze.
But if you need to block it it is not a disaster anyway unless "chip out lord" situation - e.g. 2-3 hits are not much chip - if it is close range you likely can punish it.
My video is just a demonstration with "fixed position" so problably during the match it is more difficult. Just good to know your options.

2. good anti air: yes it is. But you are just lucky if you get only few damage from DS than a 3-400 from a proper anti air.

3. neutral f*ck up: it can be annoying but Scorpion takes pretty big risk with it (point 1). If a simple DS hits just around 9%, if Amp: 140. If BS max. 20%. I think it is totally balanced.

4. Chip out and BS setup lord: Yes I think this is the best use for DS. And only this feature is worth the variation. :)
Just the complaining of not punishable thing is not fair as it is not a problem - and in chip out and BnB ender situation it can be -1000.

How’re you guys feeling the Noob matchup? I think Scorp has advantage for these reasons;
  1. Anti-zoning. Just the threat of TP forces Noob to play up close and personal. He also has to fight up close regardless of who has the life lead.
  2. Scorpion can punish b1,1+3 with b2 leading to full combo.
  3. He has nothing to fear mid and close ranges.
