Smash is 100% a part of the FGC. It’s played at Evo. It’s a fighting game. A lot of players who exclusively play fighting games play that along with every other big fighting game.

Whether you like it or not, it’s definitely considered part of the FGC now.

I consider Smash a fighting game. It shares a lot of the same fundamental fighting game elements that other fighting games have. It's played at a highly competitive level.

I also think people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Smash Community has it's issues, but NRS community has it's own issues as well.

On a technicality, yes. As a community, no. They practically hate us, they dont support us, they just use the platform for shine. Which is fine. But when you have your top figure heads of that community shitting on us, I don't consider that community at all. But hey, to each its own.

Smash is a FG technically, I mean it has attacks, a block button, and frame data. But for anyone to take it seriously, I have my doubts. It's like going to the dollar store for food instead of any grocery store out there. Sure, the prices are better, but do you really know what you're getting?

Think about it.

It's a different beast for sure. The game is fun but very complex to really get good. It's their scene that REALLY turns me off to even play the game to be honest. It's really that bad.

It has footsies, normals, throws, blocking, combos, zoning and is fought on a 2D plane with mainly hand to hand and weapons-based combat. Competitively it’s either played 1v1 or 2v2 in double elim. It’s a fighting game.

They earned their place in the FGC as much as or more than anyone else.

I mean technically they are, but for people who don't play good FGs.

I remember my friend was sitting there telling me about all the 'mechanics' of Jump Force and I was like bruh, gimme a controller and 2 seconds and I can win against anyone. I did.

But clearly, it involves cartoonish characters made for children, and shouldn't be taken seriously. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go play my fighting game where I play as a ninja wizard from earthrealm who fights against demon monsters from another realm. Serious stuff ya know.

Just saying just because those unwashed, CRT carrying, not ever playing or spectating other games, man-children motherfuckers won a donation drive and have a super popular entry to the series enter EVO doesn't make them FGC.

Those guys have been and keep on living in their own bubble for years now and probably always will. I consider everyone FGC whose game was bred out of the arcade scene or was created out of that spirit, whose people you can actually hang out with and talk about fighting games with.

Those people only want to hear about Mario vs. Snorlax or whatever and complain about lame Snorlax and Bayonetta are and dismiss every real fighting game.

Fuck em! Smash is not FGC.

Oh yeah the, "Let's name some games that play nothing like Smash Bros". That argument has been tired since maybe 2005.

When Smash uses an onscreen menu system with button prompts to choose your next special attack, let me know.

You guys need to give this up. Smash has every single element of a fighting game and they've earned their spot here just like everybody else. There's also harassment in every FGC community, and in gaming communities in general, not just Smash. People need to stop acting like this kind of behavior has nothing to do with us.
