Sub-Zero is at a fairly big disadvantage when he uses an Ice Clone. A decent Raiden can EX Superman on reaction. There's no guessing required.I'll elaborate more. If you have Raiden pinned in the corner as a Subz player, he probably already has a clone sitting in front of him, as this is Subz main pressure in the corner, thus Raiden can teleport freely or EN Superman through, risking it be easily blocked unless he reads Subz 2,1,4 string being cancelled into the initial clone. If he teleported, now your in the corner with your clone in front of you. Not a bad place to be. Clone runs out, everything resets until Subz throws out another ice clone. Subz with his back in the corner doesn't have to worry about teleport or jump ins thanks to his AA 2,2 string. Actions on Raiden. Lighting ball (loses trade with Ice ball), try and punish another clone attempt (better guess right or he's getting punished), or move forward (he's not blocking between dashes, so Slide, step forward and Ice clone, or I decide to get aggressive).
This was nerf'd in the last patch, much more punishable than it used to be.I'm not sub/raiden expert but what is stopping raiden from doing an air torpedo/ex air torpedo to escape corner pressure?
Sub vs Rep has changed a lot. Reptile forces Sub to close in on him and forces him to use meter for guaranteed projectile trades.I agree with all of that, give or take a couple of scores. For instance, I think Sub is 4-6 against Kung Lao and 6-4 against Reptile, but your Sub-Zero adds up to 143 minus Skarlet, and mine added up to 144 minus Skarlet, so I wouldn't really disagree with you.
And, plus, you are THE Sub-Zero, Rob, at least until after Evo so thanks for the matchup analysis.
um...what does stryker have to get out of the corner should he be cornered .... his offense will make a big difference there. Clone work against everyone without a good armor move or telepush in the corner.I posted my views on the tier list thread. But here's an updated and probably more accurate one for Stryker:
6-4 matchups: Baraka, Kitana, Kano, Sonya, Shang Tsung, Sub-Zero, Sektor, Sheeva, Jax
5-5 matchups: Sindel, Johnny Cage, Cyber Sub, Nightwolf, Mileena, Scorpion, Quan Chi, Skarlet (after she's patched)
4-6 matchups: Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Raiden, Ermac, Reptile, Jade, Kabal, Noob Saibot, Smoke
Dark Rob you gonna have to explain to me why you think Sub has an advantage over Stryker.
The way I see it Sub only really dominates at mid-range. But that's exactly where Stryker won't ever be in this match. I'm at full screen everytime I land a juggle or anti-air, you can't even chip me from here. Your only scary option is slide and Stryker has 3 different and reliable ways to bait/punish them. Up close your clones don't work. You're gonna have to play more aggressive and won't be able to rely on your zoning tools (I can safely build tons of meter, you can't). Granted, Sub's offense is good. But nothing that really gives him a clear advantage imho. For those reasons I would say it's 5-5 at worst. But I'm convinced Stryker has big advantage from far away so I give the edge to Stryker.
EN roll toss and EN baton sweep have armor. Not full armor (damn you NRS) but long enough to go through his corner clones or 2, 2 string. Otherwise, I couldn't care less about his ice clones because I'm not playing mid-range or trying to rush him down. All they mean is I can't rely too much on roll toss to punish his ice blast. But that barely changes anything.um...what does stryker have to get out of the corner should he be cornered .... his offense will make a big difference there. Clone work against everyone without a good armor move or telepush in the corner.
That's the problem though. You think I'm overestimating. I know I'm not.ChaseRLewis said:I just really think you overestimate strykers zoning or at least underestimate how people can approach you through generic movement only using character specific moves when they are advantageous to their character.
Being able to projectile cancel = I'll never trade with sub or lose to teleports/slides unless I'm dumb and don't know how to properly zone.ChaseRLewis said:Again no worries about projectile trade ever? sub has tools : /
Kano loses to Sub Zero. I think Sub Zero wins 6:4 and I am being generous. Due to the added recovery frames on the Knife Toss, Sub Zero can slide underneath each knife better than ever. Kano's offense is limited because of the Ice Clone. Also, if Kano gets cornered, there is nothing he can do to escape aside from X-Ray.Dark_Rob said:Heres my take on Subzero's matchups given my experience.

So played at the highest level, Sub vs Reptile is in Reptile's advantage, then?Sub vs Rep has changed a lot. Reptile forces Sub to close in on him and forces him to use meter for guaranteed projectile trades.
As the Reptile matchups were typed up, I came to realize how great Reptile is.
Well, you must have looked at the wrong column as Kit vs Shang is 5-5 and the cell next to that is Kit vs Sheeva which is 7-3oops...um...ST? shang tsung. it's been a long couple days.
I couldn't agree more with you with the exception of a couple matches, which I highlighted. I also added my take on the Noob vs. Skarlet match up.Just thought I'd post mine for Noob Saibot since Dark_Rob already posted a solid one for Sub.

That's cool. I can definitely see where you're coming from with those matchups. Glad we pretty much agree on Noob. He's definitely a solid character in my book, he just has the odd stupid matchup like Raiden. That matchup is so unfair.I couldn't agree more with you with the exception of a couple matches, which I highlighted. I also added my take on the Noob vs. Skarlet match up.
Apparenly not, we played in the MLG online tournament 2 nights ago and he beat me 2-1 lolTS = Team Spooky or Third Strike
Come on man, everyone knows Kitana owns Team Spooky and Third Strike.
... kano upball dude... as we tested at summer slam... only a few characters can consistently punish. so 80% of the cast cannot do anything about it if it is done at the correct range.if Kano gets cornered, there is nothing he can do to escape aside from X-Ray.
It is early on with the character. For now, Noob wins the projectile trade with her easily. She doesn't get scary til she has meter, which she can start her projectile spamming, then bait a tackle and punish it with her EN Dash, which has armor, for a combo. Her teleport isn't all that crazy in my book, just fast. That's basically where the match goes, who guesses right with there projectile game. She just does more damage with a correct guess. As far as Skarlet is concerned, I am honestly paying little attention to her matchup scores because she's just such an imbalanced character at this stage.
I think Raiden is ridiculously good. Please explain to me how he's lost his rushdown when he has the fastest teleport in the game, crazy pressure and a special that can carry his opponent all the way to the wall...By the way... Raiden has slipped through the cracks... He is non a defensive/reactive character and has lost his rush down. The fact that you can't interrupt dial combos with a few things makes it even worse. IMO raiden is now the El Fuerte of MK9... lame.
I have not played this game since i made top at at UFGT. And lets be real. The games is in its infancy, but to win majors you have to use only a handful of characters. And lmao if anyone things raiden vs kano is anything less than 3-7 kano. Until that garbage 100% safe (vs raiden) is gone i will have a hard time playing competitively in this game. Many of these tournaments have kano armies now. Online is still impossible for a link (not dial) based character like raiden.
Im saltly bc raiden sux.
1 his distance game is solid.... duck or ex superman. sim style projectile punish against medium recovery and greater fireballers1 Bad distance game. Raiden's fireball is pretty mediocre.
2 Bad anti-aerial game.
3 b+3,1,2 and 3,3,4. You can interrupt each hit of b+3,1,2 with moderately fast moves that have armor. You can also interrupt the last hit of 3,3,4 with moderately fast moves that have armor.
4 Know your anti-teleport strategies.
5 With that said, Old Kano used to be Raiden's toughest match up in my opinion. The fast and safe Up Ball made Raiden's life very hard. Now days I would think that Kung Lao is his most difficult match up. I am no Sub Zero expert but I would actually try and stay in the corner with Sub Zero. If you do a corner Ice Clone and Raiden teleports, he freezes automatically.
wall pressure is gone... f. 2,4 pushes back to much on block to cont pressure. the pressure you are referring to is gone with the most recent patch. 334 can be interrupted btw 3 and 4... and it is now at least -2 on block. b3 string is interruptable and unsafe as well.I think Raiden is ridiculously good. Please explain to me how he's lost his rushdown when he has the fastest teleport in the game, crazy pressure and a special that can carry his opponent all the way to the wall...
