Cyborg General Discussion Thread

As for Black Manta, I get bodied by most of them but that's primarily because I haven't done much homework on the matchup lol (in fact, I just downloaded all the recent DLC like two days ago).

Hellboy is definelty a problem. As I suspected, his revolver shoots at a height that nullifies NB and IAFB, at all ranges, so I feel in this matchup you should be trying to get in play the mid screen footsie game, while occasionally counterpoking with NB from ranges 2-3. Any further, and Cyborg will flat out lose the zoning war (he already loses the zoning war at all ranges, it's even worse the further you are from Hellboy).

One thing I noticed after getting bodied in this matchup is once you respect the revolver, the next layer of yomi involves reading the low attack were he leaps (not sure what it's called) or him walking himself into the corner.

I still need to study both matchups more in depth, since I feel I know little to nothing about these characters.

I used to use it a lot back in injustice 1, but they nerfed the frames on it (from +2 to -2 I think?). The range also feels shorter as well.

Despite this, I actually began using it again and I think it's an excellent footsie tool to check dashes. Most of my success from using it involves doing it at max range when zoning with fireballs. It's a like a change-up; you check with nova blasts, and just as they are getting the timing you hit them with a sonic disruptor.

EDIT: Oh, you said "up" sonic disruptor. I think it can be used in corner combos, and in some instances plus frames in the corner also. I have yet to use it mid screen lol. Better off doing d2, or diagonal NB.
When did they Nerf it? I didn't even notice it was -2 now that explains me messing up what I thought were frame traps

Day 1 haha! I remember in injustice 1 I would do SD into standing 2 or f22 to tag any counterpokes, especially in the Superman matchup. Then I played one of my training partners and got duffed in the mouth, and later checked the frame data.

Kinda messed up how a developer of Injustice 2 says they made Cyborg bad. They should make some major buffs for him. I know it sounds like I complain alot (bc I do....smh) but I feel like I have to try harder than most opponents. Im not a novice or a noob, Im pretty skilled with Cyborg and know how to bait the opponent and mess them up as soon as they try to come in. I dont plan on dropping Cyborg either, I just feel like I have to try 1,000X harder than other characters to get the daggon W!.Its really tiring after a while. Every time I see an opponent pick supergirl or black manta or darkseid i say to myself "great,, here we go again.". Just venting yal. They need to make his strings less stubby. Honestly, If they just give him a decent whiff punishing string Id be satisfied and can actually be comfortable. We need to make a petition or something. lol.

I'm happy to say that I'm back for good fellow Cyborgs.
So I am new to cyborg and I am trying to understand his neutral. I have been doing 23 and if it lands I do far TA or trait and continue to zone against non teleport characters. If the character can teleport I use the up drone and grapple over to them. There have been cases where the drone has followed them off screen and back which is ridiculous. If I get a jump in I do 112 and if they block the ender I do either 11 into mixup with mbf3 or db3 or b123 df2 cancel grab or continue pressure.

My problem is I feel I have no real way to get close to the opponent reliably and all my longer range normals/strings arent combo cancelable or end at putting them full screen...

A few questions are:
How do you instant air his straight fireballs consistently? I do it just fine with brainiac and his dive kicks but back forwards always get me.
On a hkd is it better to go for trait or TA?
Is his command grab useful?
The corner reset ending in 113xxgrapple in the corner, can the sides be changed or it will always be the same side?
Is grapple useful outside corner and being used as keep away?
 
Things Ive been trying out is doing jump 1 or 2 and then going straight into IAFB. You can do this even if the jump attack is a deliberate whiff so it baits people out all the time. instant air nova blast is really good too. I also realized that since 112 is +6 on block you can get an instant j1 off of it to continue pressure.

It seems like a lot of people sleep on this but jump 2 if timed right is a very difficult to read cross up. When you get a knock down jump over the opponent and input 2 right as you are over top of them \, it will hit from the opposite direction and you can start another combo. It is very hard to read so its a near guaranteed hit unless the opponent is exceptionally skilled, but the timing has to be correct or you will land in front of them.

One last thing is that if you are fast enough you can cancel b132, 113 or b213 into a dash or mb roll. you have to input nova blaster and immediately cancel it into dash. This is probably already known but just in case I thought it would be good to point out.

Day 1 Phenomenal Cyborg
1. When you do iafb, you have to be sure that your input is as close to up back forward is possible because anything slight input downwards or in a different direction can mess up your iafb. I would go to practice and try inputting the iafb accurately. Start with fireballs high in the air then start making them lower once you get used to it.
2. In most situations TA is better since it has better startup and recovery frames. Use trait when your opponent has blocked a high advantage move like mb air nb or TA.
3. Its useful after you have conditioned the opponent to block 112. The damage adds up when you look at how much damage mb grab does.
4. This is only possible if the opponent doesn't tech roll. A late j2 after the grapple hook will never crossup so you have to do an early j2.
5. Grapple hook is useful to cancel d1 or other strings like b123 or 113 into. Take advantage of the 1 frame armor by doing the move in between strings with gaps or to escape your opponents frame traps that don't jail.

I found a way to choose which side you'll end up on when you end with 113xxgrapple. If you do 2 11"s before the final 113 then you will cross up and land infront of them if the j2 hits. If they block you will land behind them and they have to switch their block or get hit. If you do just 1 11 before the 113 then you land behind them and they just have to hold the same position to block. Unless they are looking for it it isnt all that reactable.

On another note, I love it when people rage quit against a Cyborg specialist because they thought "Oh, its Cyborg, he sucks.....who plays him?". Nothing is more satisfying.
Yea, especially if the guy is also playing Cyborg, and you win the mirror and make the dude rage quit.

Is grapple useful outside corner and being used as keep away?
So if you are backing yourself into the corner, and the opponent tries to close the gap with some kind of advancing string, you can dodge / armor through that by grappling to the corner and punish. The opponents advancing string will whiff ( because you grappled ) and you can land on them with a jump 2.

Character is trash period. Stubby normals and horrible recovery atrocious! On Nova blast are his down fall. Horrible footsies. If you say nova is in fact his footsie tool it needs a buff.

Why buff his footsie tool? You may ask. Other zoning charaters have better footsie tools than cyborg. Want to be ignorant? I'll gladly name them. So if they can have such a luxury why can't Vic.
