I see how you'd laugh, but this isn't my opinion. It was a poll on ultimate-guitar.com (I believe). But you can't honestly say there's many better guitarists since the turn of the 21st that are better than dimebag. And matt heafy is boss. I don't understand how people can be douches and dicks about someone elses music choice, I mean its opinion. I don't think its hilarious that you don't agre with me lol. And once again, it wasn't my opinion, it was a poll taken by a guitar community similar to this forum.

Oh man, I wasn't trying to upset you with my remark. Bottom line though, any poll dealing with the greatest anything is just going to be a popularity contest. As for Dimebag, yes he was talented. He's also overrated in my opinion. Heafy is also talented, but I don't like his music at all. And that's what's important to me. It's not how talented you are, it's what you do with it. There's thousands of bands who don't display the skill that Trivium do, yet I think their music is better. Something else I don't get, is why you think I was being a douche. I mean, yeah, my remark could be taken as condescending, but I do want you to know that wasn't my attention.

But why can't I or rev0lver express our opinion about Trivium? Because it's negative? I don't see the logic. But you are right, it is opinion, which is why I don't think anybody should be getting their panties in a bunch over what someone else thinks about the music they listen to. I listen to a lot of death metal. Do you know how many times people have put down the music I listen to? Or refer to it as "Kill-your-mother" music? And guess what, the only thing I think is, "Their loss."

Here's the bottom line as far as I'm concerned. If you enjoy the music you're listening to, then that's all that matters, because that's the ultimate reason to listen any music. Enjoyment. Why let what someone else thinks about your music affect you?

It's because these bands get credit despite objectively inferior musicianship. It's an atrocity that this dude from Trivium generally gets more praise than someone like Sanders or Suicmez. This isn't my opinion, this is an objective statement on complexity.

It's also because mainstream metal bands give the impression that they represent modern metal, when they do not. You talk to a random person on the street about death metal and they think of something like Slipknot. It's insulting. Wear a Trivium shirt to a death metal show and expect to get punched out lol.

I don't think this would actually happen, but if it did, that's kind of pathetic. Honestly, seeing a kid in a Trivium shirt at a death metal show is a positive thing as far as I'm concerned. The reality is, there's a lot of hazing in regards to metal, you mention a mainstream band (we all started with a mainstream band which we now thinks sucks...I started with Slipknot and got hazed constantly for it). The idea is that eventually you succumb to "Alright, fuck it...what's this shit you guys keep rambling about?! Oh wow...this shit's fucking good! Wow this old lame ass shit I used to listen to blows ass!"

That's how it went for me, anyways. And yeah, every more of less mainstream metal musician is always in the footsteps of some overly progressive crazy somewhat underground guy. It's just how it goes. I don't personally care to invest the time into hazing people anymore, I just show it to 'em, if they wanna listen to it...they'll listen to it. If not, whatever, I'm cool listening to my stuff.
