But how can they be greedy when they're not the ones deciding the price? I'm working as a graphic artist at a publishing company and my boss is selling some of our books at ridiculously high prices. We don't agree with that - our people at the service lines agree that the complaints our customers have are valid and they say it to the boss, but he won't hear it - prices stay up. And it's like someone like you goes on a message board and says that I and the people who make the books are greedy. While all the while I agree with you and try to change my boss' mind!
How do you know exactly that it's not NRS deciding on any of these prices though if I may ask? I know WB owns NRS, and what they say goes but you act as if you 100% know nobody on NRS opposed this and that if anything MK while popular is obviously lesser known than Injustice(DC characters) overall yet we got 9 characters, skins etc for the same price where as we get 3 characters and a story mode a few hours for the same price? I mean again I love MK and will always support it ultimately but it's obvious their prices have gone up. They are doing that update with free friendships(hopefully not hidden), stages, etc which is great but I can't help but wonder why they couldn't just add those 3 skins in the 40 dollar value. Are skins REALLY worth a preorder option only? That could very well be NRS's choice and probably is. The price of the DLC could be WB's, perhaps it is but to the consumer it's still the same price at the end of the day. Dude again I get it, I have done voice work for projects I want to get paid for that obviously but that's not what I'm talking about. As a loyal consumer who's paid again well over 100 bucks into this game I have a right to complain or question a price, you act as if I'm just some casual getting into MK who wants everything for nothing. That's not the case. I will not be trying to change your mind, I agree with you on some points but disagree on others. So we may as well agree to disagree on those other points. I have never called NRS lazy, even dating back to the Midway days people mocked them for the reused styles in the 3D era. I was not one of them, I just think be it WB or NRS I don't care at this point tbh have to consider budgets especially now days with half the country out of work. All I'm saying and nobody can change my mind on that.
There isn't a single game whose DLC isn't a rip-off. DLC are always priced a lot higher than the game in terms of content. Horizon Zero Dawn's base game content is 40 hours and it cost 60$ on day one. Its expansion, Frozen Wilds cost 20$ and it was like 5-7 hours of content. Now, by your logic (which isn't flawed at all), Frozen Wilds should cost 8-10$ since that should be the price compared to the base game's original value and content.
But companies never do that. They always overprice the DLC. So, it's not that MK11 is suddenly the antichrist and all the other games and publishers have fair prices on the DLC.
Also, I think it's unfair to call NRS greedy when they're just working on the content and have absolutely no ruling over the price. Your beef on that front should be solely on WB, not NRS. In terms of pricing, always.
I'd have to disagree on that first part lol, Activision and Ubisoft have been known to ripoff people over the years and then there's EA and do very shady things to their fans. I'm not saying not to charge but you have to be reasonable. If you make 4 characters and charge 50 bucks for them, nobody is going to want to buy that. I think some do it better than others like Frozen Wilds for example. But when games like COD charges you 15-20 bucks for a map or 2. That becomes questionable if you ask me. I know a lot of COD fans in the past had gripes over that. I think there was another issue with one of their games with weapons, where you could unlock them by grinding or buy them all thus pay to win etc. I forget which title though but remember my friends telling me all about it and reading about it.
It's not flawed at all, it's quite logical. By my logic I consider something called loyal fans and a budget. Now perhaps you can waste 20-40 or hell you'd probably pay 90 bucks for something such as a few hours of content but not everyone will, what I'm saying. Well, NRS may not have a say on certain things but I know damn well they DO have a say on others such as "skins" that has nothing to do with WB that's all NRS. So while their prices may be greedy on WB's part, ok what about "exclusive skins" that are hidden behind shitty modes like KL and/or you must preorder only to get them? Now you may not have an issue with that, but I do. As I've said I've put well over 100+ bucks into this game lol, probably more than most complaining here tbh. If anyone has a right to complain it's definitely someone like me, and keep in mind I've always supported NRS have literally pumped over 1000+ bucks on their games, content, stuff since MK 9.
Yeah dude, honestly. I definitely don't think NRS are lazy(nobody should say that) but greedier now than MK 9, Injustice days? Definitely, that's what's got people annoyed tbh. Someone brought up a good point with I2 we got 9 characters, skins etc for 40 bucks. MK 11 3 characters a story(we don't know how long could be 2, 3 hours I'm betting half the time if not less than the in game launch story) and you have to preorder to get those nice skins, so if you buy it after May 26th, you don't get them? To me that's bs when they can just put it on the store for anyone to buy. I mean they're the ones making profit anyway or of course in a ToT. Just my opinion on that.
@MKF30 I personally think the games industry as a whole is greedier than a decade ago, and a decade ago it was absolutely greedier than around the turn of the century.
You're an "older gamer" as well, yes? Remember when map packs for shooters in the 90's were free? Remember when the term "downloadable content" came about, despite this kind of content being around for about a decade prior (i.e. the "DLC" for
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind was called "plugins" because in 2002, the term DLC didn't exist, even though it's the same thing)? Remember when skins and costumes were generally free unlocks in games by beating or finding them?
Very different times.
That's why, and I've said this before and I believe you've commented on my posts about it a few times, that I typically only play/buy older games and remasters these days.
The
Mortal Kombat franchise is the only franchise I've kept supporting at launch because I love it so much. For "Aftermath," I will get it, but when it goes on sale for about 50% off. I'm patient and I can wait to get proper value for my money as I perceive it. I'll miss out on a single skin pack by not pre-ordering, but that's not a huge deal to me.
Yes, been playing games since the golden age of the early 80's hell I even had an atari 2600 lol. God, I feel old lol. Yes absolutely, yep. I sure do. Remember the whole Activision element with the cost of maps in COD? I remember a huge uproar over that, now I'm not a COD player I had a few, played them all at my buds house before he got married when they were really in 10+ years ago and they had ripoff prices that a lot of fans did not like, then you have Ubisoft and EA who also have infamous reps with that stuff.
Same here, I used to play more games when I was younger, a kid etc but now between the prices going up and questionable DLC prices, I feel like it's not worth it. I will also wait to see reviews of a game if I'm on the fence and see how youtube reviewers where thats all they do feel about it first as far as what you get for your buck. Very different times indeed. Like I have no problem with developers wanting to charge for DLC, I mean sure being free would be awesome but I get that it's also work, my problem is their level of greed. I'm the same way I've pumped in well over 100 bucks on MK 11 so far between getting all the DLC, premium edition, time krystals and now Aftermath because I love MK, but it's no secret they've made some bonehead decisions with this game as well. I preordered on two consoles yesterday the Switch and Xbox, I don't even use those three though I have used/toyed with Sub-Zero at times but that skin is definitely one as a fan I've wanted for a while. The only thing they got wrong is he should have glowing blue eyes(which oddly enough Sub does not have ONE skin doing that) why I don't know, little weird but hopefully eventually they'll give him one and God willing it's not hidden behind Trash League.
