Her d1 is only +3 on block and her fastest normal is her 8f 1, which hits high lol. So yea, it may seem like she gets punished on hit, but it's the fact that she doesn't have ANY normal to follow up with it

Not to mention, her d1 itself is 8f and -10 on block. Easily one of the worst pokes in the game .

...Isn't that contradictory? Because I'm reading this as:

"Kitana doesn't need overhead/low options to be good, she just needs an overhead starter. She already has a low starter".
That's not what I typed though. I think that you as many others confuse a character as it being 50/50 based when they have low and overhead starters. A character is 50/50 based when you have to guess at the time to block. For this to happen both moves have to be the "same" or almost the same start up speed; AND they have to be fast start ups 'cause if they're not, you can just poke them. If one defers from the other then you can cover one and react to the slower one as you see it coming(This is what I'd like for her, nothing OP).

All I ask for her is to have an overhead with "decent" speed like I said before. At least to be able to throw your opponent off a little, or at least those that don't know that basic tactic on blocking: Cover slower move, and react to the other instead of doing it the other way around or just block blindly(I know several people do).

Any non-casual player can see that Kitana pre-patch was completely messed up and borderline shit tier : slow normals, sluggish and unsafe overhead, horrible pokes (dat D1 !), non functional zoning, poor Wake up options and defense options ... not to mention THOSE INCREDIBLY USELESS SPECIALS (reflect/parry being so slow you wonder if it's supposed to be a joke, sharpen being useless and too short, jade kick being duckable, etc).

Question : how come our "testers" did manage to let that happen ?

Unless it's "working as intended" of course . . .


I really hope next MK is gonna have some sort of alpha testing, in order to have REAL feedback (not just a few guys rollin' a party) and some REAL online testing so that MK finally gets what it truly deserves : a spot among the best fighting games.

Tired of watching NRS repeating the same BS again and again : poor online (compared to 2015 standards), balance being a joke, characters changing completely from an iteration to the other one (certainly doesn't help balancing the game lol)

I've got to play a few sets with her the other day. I personally don't think she's as bad as people are making her out to be, but not great either, just mediocre. I feel like for the most part, I'm using her fans to get a reaction out of my opponent & then playing off of how they respond, like running in after they duck. I'm generally a guy who likes to play uptempo, just like Kitana as a character. The issue with her not having an overhead & then giving her one is that she doesn't really have decent follow ups to mix up with. She does have her X-Ray & her floating tool into an overhead, but as for X-Ray, I like to hold onto my meter.

I get pretty excited when I score the damage, until I realize that I'm short-handed on mixups lol. I may or may not get to spar anymore until like Monday afternoon to give more of my thoughts. Unfortunately, my grandmother's sister passed away 2 days ago & today I was asked to be a paul bearer (I'm fine, don't worry. My mother & grandmother are what I'm worried about).

Sadly, she just isn't the same versatile fighter she was in MK9, or UMK3 even. Whoever designed her in MKX had major salt. Salted up her meta yo.

I've moved on and chosen Mileena to be my new bottom b1tch, but Kitana is still my alt main.
Kitana is on my speed dial when we get those buffs (normals at least).

PS: Kitana's XRay is 100% beast in MKX. That I love.

during that erron black 21 string you can hold block and mash reversal d,b+2. If at any point he does the command grab she will beat it cause it's throw immune. If he does EX Sand Grenade you get hit but he doesn't get the combo cause you're in the air and you fall out of the second part. Pretty good. The reward stinks cause you only get 7% but yeah.

TBH, Mileena is decent, but at the same time, she's not all that strong, either. OS helps her game out a lot, but she still has characters that she has to outplay. She also has to hold onto 2 bars of meter (imo), 1 at least for overhead.

Maybe someone at NRS hated all the MK9 kitana D1's he took...

Man, I want to play her, but even at my mediocre skill level I have to work way harder than say with Cassie.

Hello Royal Family, prospective Kitana sub here. I main Mileena and wanted to ask about Kitana's variations. I like rushdown, and Assassin seems best for that, but I've heard her best variations go Royal Storm > Mournful > Assassin. I don't care about tiers, but out of curiosity, can someone explain to me why? And also, what is the difference in how RS and Mournful play? Different ways of controlling space? Thanks in advance.

So b3 is a good crush for Raiden's f12. She goes right under the f1, and hits him before 2 comes out. So if you're reading the f12 stutters well, you can put a stop to it.
You can also throw Raiden between f12's. This might be universal.
Two things Bit let me know during the match with Art. Was far too late as I wasn't understanding properly in the heat of the moment.
Didnt get to test though, I'd just got the patch on Wednesday, went to my local, spent Thursday with my girl, flew to Chicago 6 am Friday.
Thanks alot Microsoft. Even though I clearlly got outplayed, I felt a little robbed.
 
So i've tried to use her float in the air to bait out AA uppercuts, but I still get hit while in the float. Is there a trick to using it to make uppercuts whiff? Maybe it depends on the character?
If you jump high enough some uppercuts won't hit since the float bumps you up a little and you can use 2 after to start a combo
