Worst/Funniest NRS balance decisions?

now she has oki that doesnt work period, it went from one extreme to the other........

adding recovery was the dumb part.

making kotal's b1 a high was pretty dumb too.
I was pretty mad about Kotals b1 at first but b1 being a mid at i9, -2( or was it -3?) on block would be too good in this new meta. Kotal still has solid mid.

It was unintentional but it was the only thing that made him somewhat competitive. Same with F/T getting plus frames off the overhead toss, it wasn't intended but they let it slide for a long time because he really needed it. Now if current relentless jason kept the damage glitch that would be something else but he was sooo bad back then that he could have kept it and no one would be mad.
He definitely could've done with Unstoppable being overhauled and his more unreliable normals being fixed up a lot sooner but I dunno about the damage stacking bug being his only saving grace back then. Some of his most complained about tools in recent times were already there long before the XL patch such as default B1, command grab recovery, Slasher's corner 50/50s etc.

As a result, Kano ended up being the worst character in the game, alongside Sheeva.
As badly as Kano was handled during the MK9 era, it's systematically impossible that he was the worst in the game as long as Stryker was around in the state he was in. Every problem Kano had I guarantee you Stryker had worse.

F/T EX oh and low toss now launch, which is weird because F/T already had solid OH/low mixups prepatch.
Oh and Ninjutsu F2 becoming an OH, which is STUPID because F2 already was great and had tons of utility outside of being a mixup tool.
Except, Ninjutsu was blatantly designed around having an overhead when you looked at the rest of his frame data before the XL patch. The whole 'Ninjutsu is for footsies' narrative was moot considering there were other characters who played miles better footsies in all 3 variations.
 
MK9 Cyrax when they tried to remove his stupid bomb reset then people would post a new one literally the next day lul.

Probably something with Kabal too.

Eh even with good neutral everyone deserves an oki game. Not defending Dvorah btw the puddle was so stupid.... But in general for any character if you get that knockdown you deserve oki.

Njp great for oki meaty.
No hurtbox pokes with good frame data
No hitbox mid with f2
U3 wih messed up hitbox that dodges lows has great reach, antiairs, is cancellable and safe on block.
Brood mother can knock down into crawler and go into armour breaking oki mixup that launches.

How has dvora got no oki. She has general weaknesses but that aint one.

You're mistaking 'no oki' for 'i used to have oki that was mindless and pretty much guaranteed 90% of the time, and i dont know how to adjust'

Alright but he said because she got good neutral she doesn't deserve an oki game. I don't even play Dvorah, but I believe every character should have oki. No matter how good your neutral is, if you score that knockdown you should always get some form of oki.

Tbh, considering half the cast kept their retarded OKI, im inclined to agree. But a meaty plus frame launcher on a 50/50 charatter is a bit of a stupid oki tool.

Thats mkx though, gotta balance the stupid with more stupid.

Quan buffs were some of the worst balancing I've ever seen in a competitive game. He was already the best character in the game, wtf happened

CSZ nerfs this patch was pretty ridiculous too

I think some of you are missing the point of this thread. OP isn't asking what nerf or buff upset you the most personally, he's looking for what was the worst decision NRS made that was completely illogical. Not many things come close to NRS buffing Manhunter's overhead teleport when it was already absolutely absurd in its vanilla state. Complaining about slight damage nerfs or an overhead being slowed down a bit isn't even close to the dumbest or worst balance decision NRS has made.

I almost forgot abouut High tech. High tech was a bottom tier character last version of the game, just needed a few fair tweeks. It was always a bad variation. This patch, it got nothing but nerfs which was a big shock to all Jaqui players.

Any player who was a member of the community during the early Mortal Kombat 9 days must admit that Kano's up ball is the obvious winner.

Up ball was originally designed to be just like a shoryuken (i.e., very fast on start up but highly punishable on block). NRS then decided to make the move -8 on block (or something to that extent). The complaints within the community erupted and the move was heavily normalized in less than two weeks. Up ball turned out to be worse than originally (i.e., slower on start up and even more punishable on block). As a result, Kano ended up being the worst character in the game, alongside Sheeva.

To this day I blame @EGP Wonder_Chef for his anti-up ball YouTube video. Our relationship has never been the same...
Even worse was the knife recovery. He could throw a knife from midrange and if you jumped over it he got a free anti air straight ball. Then you get in and it's upballs for days.
