There were ZERO Shinnoks in Top 8 at EVO, the World Championships for Mortal Kombat and the most important tournament in the scene (and this was right after Shinnok buffs before people started learning the Boneshaper matchup really well).
Regardless, this argument of yours that using a top tier character somehow nullifies someones accomplishments against the best players in the world (who are also using top tier characters) is quite frankly bullshit. You don't have to like Woundcowboy or think he's Top 5. I certainly don't think he is one of the 5 best players in the world either. But if the character was super broken as you claim, don't you think the majority of the best players in the world would have picked him up with thousands of dollars on the line?
The fact of the matter is, pretty much every major tournament for MKX has had a wide variety of characters in Top 8. Shinnok is a very strong character, is easy to pick up and learn, and could probably use a few slight normalizations. But he's not broken, and I don't think you could lay out a concise or convincing argument why he's SO much better than other top tiers. No character in MKX is legitimately broken at the moment, regardless what some people with agendas might tell you (and this is coming from someone who doesn't even play Shinnok or top 5 characters).
With all of that said, WoundCowboy is running scared at the moment. You can't talk that much trash and not put your money where your mouth is. We need King vs. Cowboy. Step up to the plate boys, get this done.
Evo was surprising to be honest, everyone actually anticipated there to be several BS Shinnoks in the Top 8 of EVO. Everyone was PLEASANTLY surprised that there wasn't any, everyone was glad that there wasn't any.
I'm sure the fact that most players were in training mode well before the patch that came out, they were set in their characters already prior to that patch, most people are not going to jump ship on a character that they have invested so much time into to. You stick with what you are most comfortable with for a big tournament like that.
I completely disagree with your theory of there being no broken characters in this game.
Top tier characters are going to be in any fighting game, ever, that's the way it is. I am in no way discrediting Top players that use top tier characters, It's a part of the process. When you are using characters that are broken like Shinnok and Pred and win a tournament based on these type of broken characters, you don't deserve that much credit. Certainly don't deserve to be considered a Top 5 player on the scene when your using a broken character.
I have nothing against, Cowboy. I would be making this argument for anyone that wanted to act like they deserve Top 5 consideration, when they haven't won anything without using a broken character.
No I do not think most top players would pick up a broken character just to win, they are top players for a reason, they work hard at their craft and can win without using cheese characters. I think most Top players frown on players that use broken players as well.
Top players want there to be a skill factor involved, they feed off of competition, want the best challenges possible because that is how you establish your legacy as a top player in the FGC.
Many of the top players are the ones that are claiming these characters to be broken. Broken characters happen in fighting games, MKX isn't super balanced in it's current state, so It's naive to me to think that is is so improbable that these characters are not in fact broken.
Anyway..
If a character needs to be normalized, the character is in fact broken in some capacity at the very least.
You argument didn't sway my opinion in any way, I disagree with you almost completely.
Good day, Sir.
