I agree theres a learning curve .. but I honestly don't think anyone complaining has practiced enough or looked up resources on how to run cancel. There is an outrageous amount of material on YouTube after day 2 and > 30 minutes in training mode you've started to nail the basics.

Now.. as for how Cassie mains manage double run cancelled combos? I have no idea lol (Working on it though!)

Honestly, as someone who's played fighting games like KOFXIII and Xrd without many issues, run cancels can be pretty damn tough since you can't always buffer in the run input. Trying to buffer a run out of special move can erase the special move from the input buffer (Ultradavid made a video about this and its option-select applications). I recall even seeing ChrisG struggling with Liu Kang run cancels on stream a few days ago.

Some run cancels, though, like A-List Johnny Cage's f3[4] are easy since you can buffer in the run far in advance.

I don't know if you understand ,but we have a lot of new players. Run cancels seem easy for you because you have mastered all the other game mechanics. It's like doing calculus with little understanding of algebra.
I can't speak for everyone else , but am not giving up on run cancels. Am always trying to get better with it. Am just not ready to use run in my BnBs.
your post helped me understand a few misconceptions I had regarding run. this things that you think are common knowledge are completely unknown for new players

Those questioning the Cassie Salt, let me redirect you to this one example
http://testyourmight.com/threads/why-is-her-rocket-an-overhead.50659/

Personal favourites from this thread:

Fractured Shadow calling it an "unwinnable set up" and calling for nerfs to Cassie's rocket, for it to be a mid instead of an overhead.

Salt Shaker claiming that this set up is "unblockable" then when shown otherwise, claiming that you would have a "1/20" chance in blocking it.
This is the very read I needed to get my day started before school. Thank you for this.

Are ya' ready for MK11 kids?!
Informative enough? Can we stick the final nail in the coffin of "basic system mechanic that is absolutely one of the easier things in the game to do is too hard for me please do what you can to help without suggesting that I better myself in any way" posts/threads?

Moreover can people stop catering to those requests? If there was ever in a million years ONE time where it was absolutely mandatory to say "STFU and level up", this is really it.
Must... resist... smarmy ironic reply.....

I've been trying to learn it but it's definitely not on the top of my list since I'm still just labbing DBF in lab for hours at a time since I picked up commando kano. There are a lot of buffering things that are majorly different in this game then say USFIV that make a lot of the input mechanics rather difficult, especially with old muscle memory kicking in.

I do get your point that if people are making threads trying to get "better" at the game then they should really just spend the hour or two it would take in practice to just get it down, then they wouldn't have to bitch anymore because they can do it now. If people are trying to get better for just online/casual play them tell them to just pick grandmaster sub and ice clone on reaction to anything. They'll be casual gods.

Run canceling on a hitbox is easy. Had a hard time on a pad. Just takes practice. It feels natural to me now.

You know, the thread title here is "The Ranting Guide", so I'm kinda lost as to why people are bemoaning the tone like I didn't make it obvious. Generally isn't the best to come seeking highly scienced out advice from a dude whose opener is "I'm ranting."

I also like how some people were almost expecting the "press ff+block" thread to have lots of information really hashing out the science of ff+block. Like I could do that with a straight face.

I'm sorry, maybe I'm too fond of the old school but I really resent the amount of hand holding expected and demanded in video games today. I swear I'd still be playing Guilty Gear if they didn't scrub that up too (and delete my characters).

my current complaint is that "run cancel" is an ambiguous term ATM.

something like cassie flip kick, run, b12 is sometimes called a run cancel combo because b1 "cancels" the run.

but dvorah (swarm queen) has strings into a special move (wasp grenade hold) that can be canceled BY a run (into another move that cancels the run)

dvorah's run combos are definitely hard. run has to be done as soon as possible AFTER wasp grenade hold comes out; if you dial wasp grenade and input ANY additional directions before it comes out, wasp grenade DOES NOT come out.
this means you have to time forward forward block AFTER wasp grenade comes out, three inputs, no buffer available. then the fourth input, the next attack in the combo, usually comes very fast after that.

cassie's are not. run (all 3 inputs) can be buffered during the flip kick.

Its not hard but try it online ;] Sometimes its hard to do a combos without use of run when you play online

I don't see why you would get upset at people making a thread. I agree they should use the search feature, but people come here asking for help. If someone doesn't want to help them just font open the thread. Have you thought why people don't want to use the run feature. Maybe the have a disability that is keeping them from perfecting it. Just cause somethings easy for you, doesn't mean it's easy for everyone

Its the NRS community man. What do you expect lol
The bar's always been very low but it's just pathetic with this game. Or maybe I'm just sick of it? But I really feel like it's worse.

I just remember when fighting games were about showcasing talent, practice and knowledge and lording your superiority over people's heads. Because, you know, you earned that superiority through practice, knowledge acquisition and/or possibly just raw talent. I'm sorry, this is a fighting game; it's competitive by nature. Level up or go away.

I don't understand this universal mentality that everybody has to feel good about themselves always even if they're flat-out bad at something.

Have you thought why people don't want to use the run feature. Maybe the have a disability that is keeping them from perfecting it.
Too easy... must... resist... oh... my... god. I feel like I'm getting baited like a bass.

I know it wasn't your intention and hell, I'll freely admit to being a shitty person but oh my god I don't think I'll laugh this hard for at least the rest of the day. I'm probably not going to be able to resist putting that in my sig for too long.

Btw, check out a guy called Kapgun. He only has one hand and wrecks shit at shooters. Can't be the only disabled person who doesn't suck at gaming. Hell, there's a dude who wrote a book entirely with his left foot because everything else was paralyzed. What disabilities are we even talking about here? I feel like you just wanted everybody to know you look really good in a white suit of armor.

Just cause somethings easy for you, doesn't mean it's easy for everyone
Here's the thing though: Nope. When I first popped this game in, settled down with a short little list of suboptimal combos posted by people who got the game early, I was dropping run cancel combos like it was nobody's business, and it pissed me off. So I practiced them really hard for a few days, just beating the shit into my muscle memory. Varying timings to see what I could get away with. It didn't come naturally to me, but I fucking learned because it's like... basically goddamn mandatory in this game for on-the-fly conversions to combos and virtually every BnB in the game. I'm also not completely free. That helps.

I'll help anyone who's willing to learn, I've got no problem dropping whatever knowledge I may have in passing. Even on this same subject, see here: http://testyourmight.com/threads/fear-the-beard-pigs-home-for-all-kenshi-post-4-kung-cassie-jaqui-mu-videos-beard-required.49401/page-29#post-1682950

But that was just a comment from the dude about run cancels being tricky. He wasn't asking for recommendations to avoid learning it one way or another or anything like that. So I gave him a little general write up on it. The developers of this game are amazing at handholding and enabling scrubs. We don't have to do it here.

He's very right. People shouldn't act like they want help to become better but refuse to put in the time to get better. People seem to expect to just be good without any time put into a game.

Well glad I could give you guys a good laugh. I do agree as a newbe to fighting games I had to practice the run Machanic for like 4 houRS the first day the game come out, but I eventually got it down. It's really not that hard. Maybe I'm just to old to care if someone asks for help. I guess I'm not as serious about video games as you guys are.
