THE OFFICIAL MK11 COMPLAINT/RANT THREAD

Zgf

Noob
This is my first and last legitimate salt post, lol. This game's meta and characters play awful. Kombat League is still a chore to play. Here's some improvements I think that would actually improve KL...
  1. Lower the ping limit from 150 to 100.
  2. Give the option to filter the connection by region or at LEAST 4/5 bar ping, similar to SF and other games.
  3. Win streaks in KL should increase your pts, rather than profile XP, that you earn from 50 to 70-90 so that it's easier to rank up and not so demoralizing when you lose to someone two ranks lower than you, resulting in you losing all of your progress.
  4. Stop resetting the rankings every month. I would suggest either extending the seasons and increasing the pts needed to rank up (Demo God going from 3500 to 5000 for example) or tying ranks to the specific character the player uses.
  5. Bring back FT3 sets and remove the 'lose 100 for not playing'. If it's to be kept, increase it to a 5 days at least.
If NRS would actually listen to some of the constructive feedback in regards to character changes and meta changes, as well as actually communicating with their fans, this game, as well as TYM and other sites, wouldn't be up in flames any time there's a discussion on the game's meta and characters.

Speaking of meta and characters... who keeps buffing Kotal Kahn? Why is Shao still as bad as he was when the game first launched? Why is Terminator a walking 33/33/33 machine that's barely punishable? Why is Sindel literally a diceroll character that lives off of her ridiculous f4u3, which, for some stupid reason, isn't punishable? Why does she have an almost half screen Scream KB that can trigger from the opponent dashing backwards? Why remove Sonya's popup extender from her db2 and not just tone her damage and zoning down? Why remove Cassie's safe glowkick just to give it to Johnny right after? Why do Kollector, Geras and Kotal Kahn have a mid fucking command grab? Why does Kabal have zero fb gaps, a ridiculous j2 that can't be anti aired, and good zoning with almost no recovery on his air buzzsaws? Why design Highborn Kitana the way they did, no better yet... why even design Kitana like they did in this game? She doesn't play fun at all compared to her past iterations. Why is Frost a genuinely dumb character in her 3rd variation? Why does Hunker Down Jax only get 18% off his 'combos'?

Then there's KBs, FBs and the defensive options. Why should I feel afraid of my opponent's options when I knock them down? What other game has this kind of shit? Your opponent could either wake up buttons, wake up jump, roll forward, backwards, u2/u3, delay, or, for whatever reason, wake up special. This is entirely too much. Moving forward...

Why do FBs have armor, as well as NO startup freeze frame attached to them? It's genuinely ridiculous you could lose over 70% of your life because you guessed wrong on a fucking throw from Liu, Jax or Baraka, then get KB'd because the game counted your backdash as a counter attempt and THEN potentially lose the round because your opponent can hail Mary fatal blow and successfully connect just because you let go of block for a moment or couldn't successfully meaty your opponent. Fatal blows and Krushing blows look great, but they're one of the worst ideas implemented in this game that I hope NEVER return in the next MK title.

There's so many questions that I just ask myself every time I play and watch this game. I genuinely feel exhausted and frustrated, even when I win, in KL because it's such a ridiculous grind. You can lose your progress within two matches because you had the misfortune of matching up against someone on a wifi connection on the other side of the fucking globe.

I think this game has the potential to be really good, I really do. But there are so many underlying issues with the game, characters, hitboxes, even the OST, that I really can't wrap my head around and NRS's decision to give the game small, baby changes doesn't improve much. I'm not exactly sure what's preventing them from making some genuine changes, but this game really needs some help.

I'm done bitchin' tho. Even though there's a lot more I want to type about, I believe this is enough to mention. Lol, wake me up when the next 'balance' patch drops, please.

Rockin' Sindel since '95
I don't really post complainy posts here, but the above post inspired me. :s
For me, summarised, I like MK 11, but I genuinely see stuff every time I play that makes me wonder how any can consider this a balanced, constructive, "sensible" competitive fighting game. Or how it was developed by a team with decades of proven fighting game experience and knowledge.

There's a lot to like in MK 11 (and I do) but honestly, this game is all over the place, perhaps the most "random" mainstream fighter of the generation, for many of the reasons listed in the post above this one.
It's been over a year, and there's so much stuff that shouldn't even have made it out of that initial Beta without being redesigned, from base mechanics (FB is a boring game-killer; KB throws, throws in general, meter management choices) to individual character designs/playstyles. KL is totally irredeemable, no good comes of it.

And I hear the people that go to "Well if you don't like it, don't play"... but they DO like it. That's the point. Everyone just wants it to be more enjoyable, less of a chore, more welcoming to new players, less toxic online, to give it a bigger scene, make it more exciting to watch. People aren't always complaining just for complaint's sake. They just want the game to be the best it can be for everyone.

It's not my least favourite MK, but it's my least favourite since the reboot I think. I'm not trying to be a Negatron. I still think a lot of this can be turned around with just a few changes and implementations.

Sindel is fkn rad tho. Goddamn.

Right now I'm wondering why I practiced Flawless Block U2'ing after I throw out a b321 as Sub on block, when Jax's f33 shreds it :D I spent two bars to trade with the second hit of his f33.

Before they make changes to the breakaways and fatal blows(which I suspect will happen), they need to continue where they left off last time and give the attackers the same buffer window on block.

People are disrespecting plus frames more then ever now because they feel they can get away with it.

Yes, they are. I just played some Shao matches the other night against a friend playing Baraka and Noob where he was constantly mashing out downpokes after blocking my F4 and/or 44 (+6 on block) and about half the time actually trading with the follow-up d1 I mashed myself to try to force him to respect the plus frames. There's no goddamn way I'm that consistently slow on the follow-up.

I felt they missed a lot of good opportunities. It would have been cool to see a revanant Mileena Work along side Kitana for the first time. Would have been cool to see Stryker and Kabal together while Stryker was a rookie and Kabal was the criminal he is in the game.
I like guest characters but I felt there are not enough of the characters I like.
Over the last few games they’ve killed off or removed everyone but Kabal and I had to pay for Shang Tsung.
Wish there were more old favorites like Drahmin, Sareena, Rain. Nitara. Characters I never see, or get to see but never use.

Hey guys I just got MK11 and I'm trying out Shang Tsung's Spell Master variation and while I can't speak for the rest of the game I've played the previous games a lot.

Injustice Gods Among Us: Cyborg's trait. What are they thinking here? You're just hoping that the opponent doesn't hit you while you sit there and heal a tiny amount. They had to buff the amount it heals and its still useless.
MKX: Dualist Liu Kang. Same as Cyborg's trait but cancellable so actually useful. Still the healing part of it doesn't do anything and especially in a game considerably faster compared to Injustice.

Alright so yeah Shang Tsung's healing is like 70 frames to take out the orb thingy, then you need to do damage while its out to make it worth it, then spend another 70 frames to heal. There is some decent healing I can kinda think of (Firestorm, Kotal Kahn) but I needed to rant about the bad ones k thanks.

What's your frame of reference here? I'm trying to think of other fighting games that let you heal and I can only think of a handful. Outside of crazy boss characters, most of them suck. Any kind of recovery in a fighting game is unusual.

Kotal has pretty decent healing with the ray and defense totem to cut down on chip. Blood totem is gimmicky but if you can cash it out after a combo it's actually a good glut of health back.

Also, doesn't Geras' reverse time ability heal him if he got hit right before it? That seems pretty good.

Elena in SF4 had a straight up broken healing ultra. She could cancel the recovery too for a bit less healing.
Kensou in older KoFs had a steamed bun super that healed him like crazy but it had a random factor of him choking halfway leaving him wide open or it being a bad bun and poisining him making him lose life instead.
Makoto in the 3d KoF also had a similar mechanic but it was just his taunt.
Clarice in Arcana heart had a move where she activates aura around her and if the opponent is inside it she regains health.
Yoshimitsu has stances that let him heal in all the tekken games (and SC pre-super meter)
Ragna in the blazblue series heals a little when he uses his sword attacks.
Some assists in team games heal you like Jill in MvC2.

There's also Jason in MKX obviously.

Its a rare mechanic though because if it is too strong it can obviously break the character. The big offender i can recall is Elena coz it was basically like fighting a character that had twice the amount of the regular health bar coz she easily did 2 healings per round each healing between 25% to almost 40%.

TYM's #1 L taker.
Healing in Fighting games is kind of weird concept. I've cheesed out a number of wins in MK11 by turtling in sunlight as Kotal.

In NRS games I think it's useful to reduce/negate any chip damage. It mostly feels like a gimmick to bait your opponent into an approach though.

Ultra SFIV Elena had fucking absurd healing
Was going to mention this. What a busted character. I got tilted just watching other players deal with her, let alone dealing with her myself. Like she was already an annoying character to play against, the healing just made her one of THE most annoying characters to play against in SF4. imo of course

Healing is likely the hardest mechanic to properly implement in a fighting game, the line between broken and useless is too thin.

I think Skarlet and Kotal are in a good spot concerning this.

There's a few rushdown characters that Shang's Healing Jar is good against but it is a pretty underwhelming move. You can also get healing by ending special cancelling into the heal, even without jar. Not that great either but you can end U2 combo with heal instead of damage.

But yeah, there's Kotal, Skarlet and even Kabal with some healing. They are fun with it, especially Kotal. Other NRS games have had some fun with healing, I think you picked like the worst two examples haha

No frame of reference (I played third strike back in the day but one character doesn't count) but its something I noticed with inj1 and mkx. Not surprised Kotal has good healing in mk11 since he had in mkx. Yeah that does seem pretty good I forgot about Geras lol
