Sim is worse, Rog is worse, Juri is worse, Ibuki he now loses too, Laura ( an example of a character who actually got better) is probably even at this point, and Gief will never not lose.


It's not like the toptier are trash they're just not braindead, matchups closer to 5-5. Not losing to some characters as hard but losing matchups harder and to new characters doesn't make the character better.
so 5 that got worse vs how many that got better? Chun got easier, ryu got easier, Mika became a non factor, kens tatsu going away has to be huge in that matchup, karins gotta be easier, Nash just straight up loses now, am I wrong on any of these? If so why?

Also side question why does he lose to ibuki now? That seems hard to believe.

Also wouldn't he lose to Urien? I gotta imagine that matchup is ugly.

Because most of the previous toptier are just 5-5s at worst and you have new potential toptier Balrog, Cammy, Urien etc characters Guile does lose to. Losing To Ibuki is pretty obvious now along with her thousands of ways to get through fireballs they buffed her half screen ex raida so thats it's basically a get in for free card along with all the additional buffs.

And these are just first impressions. It could get worse and it's only immediately better because they nerfed the top of the tier list to play on the same level which isn't something specific to Guile. New characters to replace the amount of season 1 characters you lost to while you're best matchups are becoming more even besides Gief isn't "real good"

Ttrust me I notice the difference and how much Guile 's chances have improved in general by the amount of people who Don't want runbacks in ranked but alot of these players who got wins with these toptier characters were frauds. It's not the characters being trash becuase of nerfs.

just had a sim, a Juri, a cammy all not want their run backs. All those characters beat Guile lul I would literally be diamond right now but I'm getting 1 and doned

A kara(empty) cancel is canceling a move during its animation but before its active frames. Usually because you'd get the moves forward movement instantly. Usually used to make demons closer, change dp ranges, or make your throws have more range. In 5 you can kara cancel but don't get any of the movement benefits so it's kinda whatever. Still useful for demons so that you don't hit someone during the input though.
demons? u mean demon flip? so wait you can cancel demon flip? im a bit confused. and i thought kara's was canceling a whiffed normal/special

No but seriously, he is a lot of fun to play, but I spend all my time terrified, lol.

Havent been able to mess with Guile much yet.

All these other characters getting new tricks while Mika can't even keep spacing dependent tools. When's season 3?

It's all so very confusing.
I have to say, I underestimated the Ibuki changes. I still feel like her Vtrigger needed to be less situationlly useful (even if this required a nerf in some way to compensate) but the stuff she got was pretty solid.

Is she Tournament viable? I still don't think so, her most powerful tool is still to situational, but I think her quality of life is miles better.

Now that I've had time to play him, I think Birdie is slightly better in most matchups. His antiair conversions do signicantly more damage if you use cr hp and his knockdown mixups are WAY better now. He finally gets threatening midscreen meaty setups like everyone else (for example, ex chain can be followed up with cr lp into st mp on counterhit). The nerfs to his normals (st mk, cr mk, cr lk, cr mp) are slightly annoying but ultimately not a huge deal. I was really worried about cr mp, as it looks severely nerfed using ToolAssisted's hitbox viewer. However in practice it mostly works the same. Only situation I seem to have to do something different is against neutral jumps. Cr mp used to be able to antiair them from way farther than you would think, now you have to use cr hp, st hp or ex chain (all significantly slower / harder to use). He also received some situational nerfs like the fact that st mp no longer ticks into ex dolphin dive against crouching opponents. Loss of health and ex bullhorn 1st frame armor is a significant nerf but the universal nerfs to the stun on throws offsets it to a great degree.

His biggest problem is that some of his toughest matchups got buffed (Guile/Dhalsim). Those are quite tough now, but still not impossible (may only be 4-6, not sure). I ran into ImStillDaDaddy yesterday in ranked and lost 2-0, but I actually should have won the second game. Was on the cusp of victory but then got too excited and did an unnecessary ex dolphin dive (which got punished) instead of playing solid lol.

Overall, I think he's still somewhere in mid tier.
