Skarlet should be banned at Evo.

Currently, there is a one-month time frame for the competitors to get ready to play/fight Skarlet. NRS said that there are issues with Skarlet which will be fixed with a hotfix sometime soon. This means that there is actually less than one month to get ready, because Skarlet might change before EVO.

There is every chance that someone will find some kind of infinite or broken part of the character, like many of the other characters that have since been hotfixed and patched. For now, is it worth the risk to allow her with no idea if NRS would be aware of such a thing and fix it before the competition starts? I dont think so

too much unknown with the character and not enough time. she and the rest of the DLC characters should be banned.

Before blindly voting, I urge everyone to consider the following:

1. The character is 1 day old. We will learn more about her in the following weeks

2. We are STILL learning things about characters from day 1(April 19th) that had to be patched out in the day before CEO(another major tournament)... it must be considered that this is also a possibility with Skarlet as well.

3. As the character strats develop, she could turn out to be overpowered, broken, or crap tier.

4. If you choose not to purchase her, you can still play against her as the "compatibility patch" makes her available to play against online. This may not help to a great extent, but it will at least give ALL players a fair chance to develop a sense of what the matchup is like even if they have chosen not to purchase her.

5. We have ZERO tournament experience with her. It will be difficult to determine where she stands as a character without that data.

On a personal note, I just don't think that 1 month is enough time for the fighting game community to fully explore her and all her options and exploit everything she can do. We only learned a few weeks ago about the Kung Lao tele-infinite, and just 2 weeks ago ALL Cyrax players had to completely adjust their entire game, if not drop him completely for an alternate. The point here is, Skarlet needs to be fully tested by the community first. We need people to try to break her, we need tournament data on her and how people perform with her, etc.

I can't vote in this because the right answer doesn't exist for me, but for me the answer is:
Lets get some data on her in the next few weeks and see where she stands. Tentatively do not ban her, but could be a last minute ban if something is found that makes her broken/unplayable.

I'm with everyone else that has posted so far, she should not be allowed at this years EVO as everyone else has said so far, one month is just not enough time to really see if she has any kind of issues and the like, plus it's not fair to players to make them learn how to face and counter a totally new character in just a months time.

im cool with this but the EVO judges would have to throw a hardline to this. if that character is broken there should totally be ban, even if its last minute and pisses some people off. just like Kabal infinites fudged up regular tournaments till recently, this time NOBODY should be given a chance. if its Broken and aint fixed, then its BROKEN and shouldnt be allowed. ive already voted no, but im ok with her being there if theres no infinites or anything thats abnormally strong.

No she shouldnt be banned at Evo. like many have said, there is one month before evo and there can be changes implemented.

NRS needs to get somebofbthebbig players in to test the character and.find the broken stuff, might make things easier.

alternatively, learn another character to beat Skarlett. She is in the game, deal with it. If Skarlett is banned, then Yun should be banned as well as XFactor.

She should be banned for Evo. First tourney (major) she should be allowed to be used in is Summer Jam in August.

Last night i was thinking 1 month is plenty time, but its not just so players can learn to USE her, its so players can learn to play AGAINST her.

So again, Skarlet, along with Kratos (obviously, console specific characters are always banned) should be banned from Evo 2011.

And its a no brainer Rain and Kenshi wont be invited as well :)

wait a min. I still don't understand why she's banned at ECT. tons of characters got changes and changes the way we play vs them.

cage, nw, sheeva, jax, quan chi, liu kang. xbox just got the update so these players have to adjust to the changes. we going to ban these characters too?

me as a sindel player has to totally change the way I play those characters. it's a new learning process. it's stupid to even think about banning a DLC character ever. as long as they are on both consoles.

I like this idea, but the folks at EVO need to make it very clear from now until then that there could potentially be a ban. This way, people can specialize in an alternate, and not be SOL when/if the ban happens.

The problem here is that if NRS makes changes the day before EVO, like they did with CEO, then you're talking about taking an entire month's work that people will have put into Skarlet and basically changing it. It could be a damage reduction, a buff that makes her OP'd, or changing something that changes her entire strategy like they did with Cyrax. These players will have to go back to their "old" main which they prob. have not played or practiced much with since Skarlet's release and therefore will be very rusty with them.

Tweaking is a great thing, but we have to draw the line as to how long before a major, or in this case, THE MAJOR, that tweaks can be made before we're messing with people's game. 1 Month is borderline...

I have informed NRS that the cutoff for changes for Evo is July 6th. At that time, the EVO PS3's will be loaded with the current changes, and then taken offline until Evo is over.

That way people have a chance to practice with the current changes to make a strong showing at Evo.

Shouldn't be banned. If players wanna win, they're gonna study up on every character that is in the game (Except Kratos, since he will be banned for as long as he is exclusive).

Plus, having her not banned at EVO gives players experience vs her and with her for future tournaments. Having her available for tournaments as early as possible helps break down the character faster, so that the process of learning whether they may be bannable or not that much quicker. It really helps more to allow than it does hurt.

My vote is no she should not be banned. Here are my reasons. First there is more then enough time to learn her. I think its dumb to ban her due to not enough time I mean come on look at ss4ae the new characters just came out and I don't see people saying let's ban the new characters since there isn't enough time. How about every1 just suck it up learn how to use her and deal with it. If u gotta learn on the fly then do so. Look at the pdp tourny mk9 was only out for 2weeks when that tourny started and people learned real quick on how to play then game. So I will say it again do not ban skarlet or any other future dlc characters.

Dan, what if a player like Perfect Legend from Ohio, or Floe from California were to travel the HUNDREDS of miles to play at ECT, only to lose to a character they have little matchup experience against, could potentially be broken and is virtually untested? How do you explain that to them? If, in the next 3 days, Skarlet turns out to be super broken or super God tier, how do you tell people, "well she's in the game, virtually untested, you just spent $500+ to come out here to play, and you lost to an untested, broken character that you have no experience against... oh well...too bad."

You don't, you ban the character. Think of it this way... we could have, in a 124 man MK9 bracket, what...maybe 10 Skarlet players? Do I piss off 10 Skarlet players by making them use their old main, or piss off 114 players by allowing an untested, potentially broken character?

Very good thinking Wiz. Great way of handling this.

Tay, that means that you're requiring every tournament player to purchase her in order to learn her if they wanna learn every nuance.

Also, remember everyone, I'm not entirely against her being in for EVO... I'm playing devil's advocate so we can get a good solid answer.

i just spent the last 2 months learning how to face cage, nw, liu Kang with sindel then this patch comes out and now I have to totally relearn how to play them. I can't do my normal zoning.

With no release of Skarlet on psn eu, european players will have even less time to work with and against her before the competition. The argument to exclude her for the tournament only gets stronger

Heh, will this give NRS incentive to release Kenshi and Rain before the cutoff to see how their dlc characters perform? I wonder

and dont even bring up PL in this discussion. I'll bring it up in mod forum.

Buying her isnt the issue. Learning her/learning to play against her is the issue.

Updates, DLC, etc is up to the player. if they can afford to travel and attend tourneys, then its up to them to buy this stuff too. imo
