The person who made this thread tweeted that there were too many SJWs on FGC twitter like a week ago - go back and look at the threads about the complaints of poor working conditions at NRS from when this game came out. Look at some of the opinions around how the Infiltration situation has shaken out. That is pretty much all I've got off the top of my head. But honestly don't take stuff from me read KingHippo's work he writes a lot of really interesting stuff about some of the political issues the FGC as a whole faces.
Thank you so much for the reply bud! I still don't know where you're going with the TERF stuff, because that's a fascinating and multifaceted issue. But firstly, I do trust you because you have obviously read into the issue. Secondly, I asked you to DM me because this isn't a political site, znga I b.c. feel we may disagree. While I do possess the ability to disagree and be civil, many don't, and that's their prerogative. My point being, i just want to talk about games. I don't give two solitary fucks about 16Bit and her transition. I don't know her, i don't know anything about her, and i will never have the opportunity to do either. I find mutilating your genitals a horrifying prospect, but WHO CARES? You should care about my opinion on Kotal lacking a decent mid. If we can express everything here then fine, but it behooves me to tell all y'all, not everyone agrees with you. Period. That's in our nature. This is supposed to be consolidated around a particular studio's games. I got a message the other day from a member of this site saying (paraphrased) "Fuck this. If you're a Republican, get the fuck off my friends list. If you're a Democrat, you can stay." How reprehensible. THAT'S NOT WHY I'M HERE, THAT'S NOT WHY I FUNDED THIS REBIRTH OF THIS WEBSITE, I JUST WANT TO TALK ABOUT GAMES. Right?

I PMed you as requested but I do want to publicly say in response that saying TERFs are a "multifaceted issue" and calling gender reassignment surgery "genital mutilation" is some serious bullshit. TERFs can go ahead and fuck off. Not going to just let that be left as the last public comment in the thread but I won't derail any further.

Can you blame them? With as much bad rep they've been getting from the mechanical side of things they'd probably get shit on. Hell, I'd probably shit on them if they showed up

It today's stream discussion about the third variation a moment came up where Tyler stated, "We follow the twitter, the discord and the reddit." How did testyourmight fall so low as to not even be on the radar or get a shout out from NRS. A very long site dedicated to their games has been unable to earn their respect.

I suggest;
  • a tym tournament series
  • a tym competitive sponsor
  • improved moderation and character forums
  • more stories like event hubs including NRS staff Q&A's, top player profile pieces and interviews
  • attempt to get a big name reinvolved in the site like Mr. Aquaman and have him run a tournament serioes
As it stands, this site truly is a graveyard, laughing stock and disrespected place in the FGC. Sad times.
I have had the opportunity to discuss this topic with @STORMS and @Gerchap privately and on the podcast. Traffic has significantly declined for all major fighting games websites, including for former powerhouses like the SRK and Tekken Zaibatsu forums. From my observations, TYM currently receives more traffic than either website and may be one the busiest fighting game website on the internet. The reality is, as Ultra David has already mentioned, that most users have migrated to Twitter and Reddit. Quality posters and high level players have also left in order to monetize information and videos on websites such as Twitch and YouTube.

According to former testers and quality assurance employees, NRS developers do visit TYM albeit less so because of the reduced traffic. Any person who tells you that the community has become more negative, disrespectful, and/or critical is either misinformed or misleading you in order to suit his or her agenda.

That wouldn’t explain why Paulo, John Edwards, etc. stopped chatting in streams, even though the streams have far more viewers now than they did a few years ago.

This clearly isn't the whole story. Also there were more dev posts just a couple years ago, even though TYM's traffic today is actually above where it was during most of Injustice 2.

Y'all know how it is for web forums nowadays, they're way behind Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, & Discord. I miss them too, and I still come here sometimes to see if anything interesting is happening, but I know where most of the discussion is taking place and it's not here anymore. This is not a TYM or NRS issue as much as it is a modern internet culture issue.

I wonder what the median age is of people who still regularly come here. I bet it's getting pretty close to the big 3-0
This.

Also being a pro player is a lot about being able to build your brand which is done on twitter etc.

They do not need to chat or post on the forums and risk making comments that may be deemed controversial or unprofessional by their bosses. They can simply answer questions, address any issues, or rant about whatever they want on the Kombat Kast in front of thousands of people for an hour on most Wednesdays.

The point is that TYM being more negative, disrespectful, and/or critical than ever before is a myth. If anything, the community's behavior was a lot worse in the past. I know mine was. LOL.

Fujin and Ermac for MK 11
I have my issues with mk 11 but that being said, NRS are also not obligated to tym or any site they dont want to mention. They've mentioned tym in the past on a few kombat kasts. No platform is bigger than Twitter and reddit let's be honest at least right now with most discussions.

39 years old and wondering whether I'll be 50 before seeing Havik again in a modern MK game.

I too think that TYM is not nearly as rude towards NRS as other mk sites are (i.e. trmk.org who constantly is shitting on the game and the devs). I too think this is the evolution of social media and how easier it is to reach fans and devs via twitter and reddit.

It's nothing personal. It's just the times changing.

Lol we already have a tym tourney series, we have weekly team battles and monthly tourneys. But we moved to discord cause it’s easier to organize and we even got some pros playing with us.

xenogorgeous

.... they mostly come at night. Mostly.
whatever .... Twitter and Reddit are filled with fanboys that enjoy to lick NRS boots in order to have some minor attention or random response from them , lol .... at least in TYM, people here , right or wrong, normally have no shame or fear to talk freely what to think about the game, with no limitations and not worrying if other people are enjoying or not their real opinions , so, pretty normal to devs to try to avoid being in this place , hehe :p

On Twitter you only have to follow who you want. I guarantee they're not following a bunch of people who are toxic, and also that they don't check every single mention they get.

Twitter is pretty much what you make it.
No it isn’t. I followed sonic fox for mk stuff and ended up with gay porn on my timeline.

On tym you can also follow who you want. There is an ignore button for everyone on the site except you.

If you want to generate discussion on twitter/discord and have a moderate following you have to read the replies, right? Just like here?

Again this idea that the toxicity is the reason they don’t care about tym is bullshit.

Noob
go on reddit and you see the same exact stuff.
reddit: the upvoting system puts posts, what most users think is valuable: upwards, the downvoting: the opposite + hiding the content
twitter: you mention people directly and a couple dozens of hearts bring value to it

from a forum perspective you gotta reach bottom to keep the discussion going

I think you guys are completely nuts if you don’t think Tyler’s department keeps tabs on TYM. They made an entire iteration of the series based on what TYM wanted. If they only monitored reddit, every move would be a safe advancing 9f meterless armored launcher. Every patch closely reflects TYM input. We are still the base, they know it; these streams just aren’t for us. If they were they wouldn’t consider discussing frame data “getting into the weeds”

Then some trash cans started getting transphobic about her, which of course was dealt with, but the damage was already done.
You say this and then literally 8 posts up from yours on the same page:

Waaaait. 16bit is Stephanie? Dude lost a lot of weight. I didn't recognize her.
What exactly does "dealt with" mean then? Having transphobes just edit their posts (with specific omissions)?

31 here.

But yeah, you gotta be realistic. MK11 is decisively a "broad appeal" game. It sold a tremendous number of copies. To expect that any significant fraction of the people that bought the game have heard of TYM is...optimistic. Even if the devs come here to read threads for personal interest, for them to not specifically call out this forum on their Kombat Kast in the age of Twitter/Reddit is not surprising, regardless of perceived toxicity levels between the platforms.
I've talked with Steph and others at NRS and I don't think it has to do with toxicity at all. All the platforms have toxic people look at the mileenas on Twitter or anyone on reddit.

For Stephanie its she didn't get along with a few former members who had different opinions about her life choice and one of them stayed here because they didn't break any rules just expressed thier opinion. I understand why steph is mad and that's fine.

For NRS I think it has to do with volume. There is around 100-300 members here with 1000's to 20,000 on the other platforms and let's not forget WB has their own forum with more members than TYM.
There is some toxicity here like many places and most tend to go out of their way to argue back and forth but most of these platforms are what you make of them.
  • TYM there is a block function.
  • Twitter has a follow function.
which allows you to only see people you agree with or like a good and bad thing. The point is if you don't like toxic people you don't have to see it.

I like TYM because there are good people on here and I feel its more equipped to share tech and make info available.
