Oh that blows. I can't say I blame you. What happened to Reptile? He's not top ten but he's a zillion times better than Kenshi. Did you drop him?
Sorry to answer your question I do play reptile still as much as I do kenshi but again low tier and mid tier are gonna eventually get to top 32 where your bracket becomes

Alien
Alien
Mileena
Mileena
Kung Jin
Shinnok
Takeda
Takeda
Etc

In pools it can be whatever but in top 32 it's like now I have to play against another top player using an AK47 and I have this wooden stick

@RM Indecisive @Pig Of The Hut Fair points and duly noted. I probably should have taken that into consideration before stating my distaste of having to pay to view archives.

Thanks for the reality check. lol
plenty, as in almost all of the biggest streamers do not charge to archives, though they encourage subscriptions. TeamSpooky or Max for example... but pretty much all of them as they know that it is fans and followers that count. having 1000 people go "oh locked archives" and never coming back is not the same as getting a 1000 people becoming regulars and then a percentage of them donators. Forced subs for archives like reo and tom and FunkyP just drives people away and is hurting their cash intake and growth, not improving it. It is followers, and growth that makes the bucks,,, This is new media 101 guys... get with the program.

I agree, but at the same time, Pig and Inde both raised very valid points that I can't help but agree with now that they brought the aforementioned stuff to my attention.

This is probably one of those slippery slope situations.

This is 50% correct

So do you also feel torrents are healthy for the movie industry or in fact how healthy in YOUR opinion is the music industry now since 1998?

Because buying all our own equipment, packing it, paying for checked bags, paying for expensive equipment, setting up everything by yourself, packing it up every night, setting it up again, running streams for 8-14 hours for 3 days straight and then packing up should all be done for free because we are "community"................?

Nope

Thats about 42 hours of work that most was paid for by FunkyP to even make work

When you go in to work this week don't clock in orjust tell your boss "this week is on me" and think of FunkyP
Most other broadcasters for events don't archive footage behind a paywall. They are doing it primarily as a labor of love. It's easy to say "support me so I can stream" but you're ignoring what actually happens. Vast majority of people won't subscribe because they don't value the content enough or getting the results is good enough or they'll wait for the matches later since watching them the next day or a week later is no difference. In turn, you're disengaging those people from the community making it less likely for them to show up to events, participate in the discussion about that game, or even be viewer. FunkyP didn't show up to that event banking on enough people to sub to him so he could afford a bus ticket home. Treating it as a donation for the sake of support is the best way to not cause that disengagement phenomenon to occur. Want proof of this? Watch a Spooky stream during Top 8s/16s whenever he has sub mode only on. Watch the numbers drop because people don't feel engaged.

Did a thesis paper on this exact subject. There are precisely zero examples of hard evidence to support the claim that piracy equates to direct revenue lost for these industries. Digital piracy is, and has always been, an accessibility issue. If you make it difficult for your customers to get what they want when they want it (buying and entire album for a single, buying a physical copy of a movie, etc.) then they will turn to easier methods. Netflix's and iTune's effect on the amount of piracy has been astronomical and the movie industry is having one of it's most profitable string of years (I hesitate to say decade because I don't know for sure) in it's entire history.

Spooky example may not be the best one seeing how he makes a lot off his stream and the way he does things

Should cable TV be free?

Movies are making more money now than ever in history. There are billion dollar movies every season, and not just one .. sometimes 3 or more. The film industry is going very well.

All torrents did was turn everyone with a computer into a filmophile. People went from watching 1 or maybe 2 films a month or less, more once vhs came around to watching films every single night. This increased the film watcher market place a massive amounts, which is why they are making record amounts of money.

Again, it is exposure that really counts. Torrents just made everyone into ravenous movie consumers, desperate for the next one as they burnt though the older stuff and now have noting to watch. Film goers are more ravenous now than ever and torrenting is a big part of why.

It was less about Spooky individually and more about the dynamic at play. If you're putting a paywall for people who can watch the event live to be part of the conversation, naturally you're going to push some people away which is the opposite of what we should be doing.

Should cable TV be free?
Not a very adequate analogy. The stream is free upon broadcast so the only people you're charging are those who aren't there to watch it live. He makes (or can make) ad revenue all the same on live and past broadcasts and presumably on youtube as well. Cable doesn't have/function on a "community" and they operate in a marketplace where I can shop providers. FunkyP is the ONLY source for CEO 2016 MKX footage short of those videos HoneyBee took with his phone.

No.. your confusing the small US market with international ticket sales. If America wasn't charging a weeks wages for a dad to take the wife and kids out to the movies it would be a different story and why it is international sales (were prices are reasonable) that are fuelling the entire industry as record numbers are attending.

Enjoy it while it lasts from those who allow free viewing because changes are coming for this market

China i think is the biggest revenue movie market

yeah.. just look at Warcraft rofl...

Look, we are getting way off topic here, and it is a complex issue with good arguments on all sides. The music industry survived the advent of digital media, film will as well. Though the genie is out of the bottle now, torrents and netflix and all that are never going away. The industry has to adjust if it wants to preserve the theatre experience. Regardless on were you fall in this discussion.

Ticket sales are not declining. Tickets are also only a part of the revenue generated by the film industry. The industry also makes their finances as convoluted and opaque as possible to make it seem like their margins are thin. Ever see the financing report that shows that Harry Potter hasn't turned a profit yet?

If you wanna kill the FGC as quick as possible then charging to view is the best way to do that.

music industry still has not adjusted at all

China saved Warcraft yes, other than that it was about to become waterworld 2.0

Eventually the bigger games will get TV rights and you and the world like the music world did in 1998 will have to just adjust also

yeah, the eventual end point of the eSports will be digital rights bought by corporations for cable or other paid streaming services. Eventually the free stream stuff will go away, it is really a remanent of the amateur scene.

that movie was so bad!!
Warcraft?

It was fine if youre deep into the lore like me. People who never ever before heard / played Warcraft (and WoW after that) were mostly confused after watching the movie and i can't blame them. Then again it always was a movie for the game fans.

each to their own I guess. For myself I like it when films have actual narrative structure. I mean it wasn't as bad as Transformers 4, but it was the same kind of washing machine of interconnected sequences that makes anyone that enjoys storytelling die a little inside.

A huge cultural shift is gonna be required before eSports becomes viable cable broadcasting. ESPN has been flirting with it for what like half a decade now and it still hasn't managed to bring in the ratings. Any fighting game is far down the totem pole for being picked up by a network due to their current size and demographic appeal. I'd wager that the unbundling trend will come to full fruition before eSports becomes "cable sustainable" which puts it even farther behind because it would need a huge audience to opt into the "eSports channel" since ESPN wouldn't be able to bundle it with their other channels. But hey, if it leads to better production values, the ability to see ALL of the pools and not miss part of the handful pools scheduled to be broadcast because of MAHVEL going into infinite overtime, and presumably a bigger audience which translates to a bigger scene then I'll be happy to pay a reasonable fee for it.

I do agree on that point, there was no narrative in Warcraft coz by design it was assumed you played Warcraft games before you watched the movie. In that case it made sense. If somebody never really was into Warcraft games then the movie was confusing at best. And i agree with that.

Transformers on the other hand... lack of words no idea how can they create such a pile of garbage on constant basis and make money of it. Micheal Bay should be directing d grade porn movies by now... thou he would probably fail there too.
