MK11 Not Returning as Evo 2020 Mainstage game

Evo's main lineup has been announced, and MK11 is missing. What are your overall thoughts on this?

MK9 had 3 EVOs.... The same game that people like M2Dave like to sit up here and shit on and say "was unbalanced" but yet had 3 EVOs and some of the most hypest moments this community has ever seen and will ever see honestly. Oh the irony of it all. The objectively "worst" MK title had more appearances at the coveted EVO then the objectively "most balanced" MK title which only has 1.

Did I say that? Even though your desire to address only one side of the spectrum certainly makes you a candidate for the shill category I have never said people who enjoy the game or say positive things about it are shills, but there are posters here who make it seem like their experience with the game is the final say on how it should be received which makes them a shill/bill to me.

Both sides are pushing a narrative of this game and lashing out when others don’t perceive it the way they do.

Where has fighting fire with fire got you my man? These same posters are STILL going to complain about the game on their statuses every. single. day.

Its obvious that you can’t combat some of these people with constructive criticism, facts and opinions, but insulting them and making yourself look like a toxic shill wasn’t really the answer I think.

And you obviously have ignored or at times have selective memory or something because I've seen quite the inverse; people are getting called "crazy, delusional, dumbasses, shit for brains, etc." for simply disagreeing with the notions that this game is not good. I've seen people get threatened for posts like that about this game (on YouTube, gladly, not here for once) simply because they don't agree with a certain rationale. This comment you made has nothing to do with the reason why the top players left the site. They left the site because once they realized their opinions weren't being regurgitated like scriptures from the Holy Bible, they had to join another platform to do it.

The ones with balls are still here but they comment less due to people not liking their comments.

 

Online Player numbers are higher too compared to previous titles. I am not sure why people act as if EVO is the only measurement about if a game is doing well or not. Especially when you have games in the lineup which have less sales, online and offline player numbers.

Final Kombat is coming soon, after that we get more infos about a possible next Season. BBTag has a Tournament Circuit event as a side Tournament at EVO, MK11 can do the same when they want.

Online player numbers are only higher due to a better netcode which again incentivizes players to stay at home and play the game for free and without any risk of losing money.

I agree MK11 has flaws, and gameplay wise it’s my least favorite NRS game, but it’s still a good game and I love Mortal Kombat so I’ll play it. There’s a difference between criticism and hopping on a MK forum and throwing a celebration that something bad happened to the game. Because yes the truth is not being at the biggest fighting game event isn’t a good thing, shocker. But that doesn’t mean the game is dead, I can still hop online and find a game in less than thirty seconds, not to mention next month there’s a huge guest character dropping, dead games can’t do those things lol.
Is the community as a majority less passionate about this game compared to MK9 and MKX? Yeah, probably, but that doesn’t mean you should wish death on it.

Our community was much better and far more dedicated back then. We supported our own game and made a big deal out of it even though it was broken.

We held tournaments just to get people to tournaments. And some of us gave our own pocket money so people could make events because we didn’t have sponsorships yet.

MKX was the beginning of the “We’ve arrived/NRS owes us something” era, where everyone started to get lazy because of the ESL and Machinima promotion. So people basically assumed that we could do anything and not really support the scene, because we were guaranteed to have tons of money and promotion no matter what.

And now we’re at a point where we need to be a community again and support our own stuff, and we’ve forgotten how to do it. All they want to do now is complain about someone else.

That's an easy fix though however fixing the game is something that you and I and this community can't do unless we discuss what's wrong in a manner that is both rational and earnest and send them to the devs.

You can fix laziness but I care more about the game then if a community is too lazy to actively go out and get support for a mini tournament.

 

I mean it’s great reading content for sure. Especially since everyone is giving their thesis statement and essay on who or what is to blame when they don’t even know WHY the game isn’t in the lineup to begin with.

Like, can we at least wait for an actual statement or more information from EVO or NRS before we tear each others heads off? Just a thought.

Looks like spending the year shelling and silencing every single criticism really was not the way to go after all, Hordes of the playerbase quitting the game within a year of release are being called irrelevant casuals, Game remains in terrible state, Gets trashed by Evo and now everyone are surprised pikachu.

Please proceed to pretend the game is still alive and well in the bubble of combo breaker. This is beyond tragic.

We literally have no idea why this is...the truth is there is just some reason that revolves around money that we arent aware of most likely. You guys assume evo did a vote asking what games do people want to spectate? I am not in the game industry but for example I am a DJ, and the club I work for is in DJmag's top 100 worldwide clubs. This list you must first get selected as a candidate then you must pay 200k usd for this form of "advertisement". Those who don't care about being in this list just don't pay. I am sure EVO is something similar and why MK11 isn't in it has a reason that we won't be informed of.

Take in mind i do not play samsho. However, I normally like to see and enjoy watching games i don't play and have fun with it.
That said, that was as exciting to watch as a snail race.

The game meant to be slow pace and the HITBOXES actually Works!

 

Predictably, the anti-Mortal Kombat 11 crowd has come out to salivate and blame the meta.

Mr. Wizard is a businessman who knows that a Mortal Kombat game is difficult to promote because of the extreme gore.

There are also rumors that fighting game companies pay money for their game to be included. I can definitely see how the board of directors would see no profit initiatives by paying Mr. Wizard, especially when 11+ million copies have been sold. They likely view EVO as insignificant.

This might be the single handed most ignorant thing I have ever seen on this board. No profit initiatives? EVO insignificant? The biggest FG tournament, HUGE advertising opportunity, but your theory is that WB already made enough money on MK11 so its not worth it to even try and advertise the game anymore. You know why you see Bud Light commercials every superbowl despite it being the most sold light beer? BECAUSE YOU CAN ALWAYS MAKE MORE. What fucking company that is profitable would just stop advertising their product because "they already sold enough"? This has nothing to do with MK being gory, NRS/MK have been at every EVO since 11' without any complaints. The year is 2020, the times of mk getting ridiculed for gore by any serious or reputable/noteworthy party are long gone. We will probably never get a real answer on what happened here, whether or not it's behind the scenes nonsense, or because people don't like the game, it doesn't matter because it happened and it's over. But saying its a decision by WB to purposefully not advertise their game at the biggest FGC event of the year is the definition of shoving your head in the sand. It's clear something is not working for this game.

You want us to rally with you guys after you've demonized, ostracized, and assaulted everyone that didn't stand for what you believed in for this game and called them deplorable insults and had the nerve to call us "casuals" effectively silencing us and our opinions just so you can get your precious video game at an EVO? I'm not sure MK11 not being at EVO this year really vindicates anything. There's plenty of legit reasons why it wouldn't be at EVO that have nothing to do with the quality of the game or popularity of the game.

 

In all honesty I'd rather watch paint dry than any game in the EVO2020 fighting games line up. Might stop by if there is a DBFZ Sonic Fox vs GO1 grand finals but that's about it.

 

To be honestly regardless of my feelings about the over all game or the community reception I’m extremely disappointed that my game isn’t being represented in the spotlight...

couple of things, either:

1.Mr wiz and co looked at the reception or possibly polled interest, polled the number from that laughed called the chief to tell him this wasn’t it

2. now that jokers won an award WB asked evo to pay up more money then mr thought the game was worth, called the chiefs assistant up and to him to tell him this ain’t it

3. Off of named brand since evo wasn’t willing to pay up wb and NRS think they can get by without being on the main stage/still make money consumer wise

Either way as a fan and a commentator I’m sad
but as stated on other post logically I’m not surprised..this is by far the most controversial and decisive mk game in memory...
but this also means mk loses exposure, community interest, sponsors and possibly important of all NEW players checking out the game..

P.s. - and I think people are sleeping on this possibly being a bigger hit to the over all community and or moral then cats realize

As much as i love this game, i am not suprised in the least. Frames are too fast, jank is everywhere, hitboxes are trash. Once again nrs game is about who has the best unreactable dirt. Sad but true.

The cost of “advertising” being $25k could have not been worth it. NRS makes the overwhelming majority of their sales from casuals. Casuals who bought the game when it came out or soon after. People that actually watch EVO are a very very tiny fraction of the consumer base. And even a smaller fraction of that actually are competitive players. And even a smaller fraction of that are competitive players who don’t already have the game, and are persuaded to get it because of EVO over a year after its release.

I can easily see how that isn’t worth the $25k investment, especially considering how NRS games have been treated in the past and recently at EVO. No Sunday slot 2 years in a row, and when we do get a Sunday slot it’s at 8am. Idk about you, but an event who treats my game and playerbase that way while I’m giving them thousands of dollars while it also not benefitting the business all that much anyway seems like a pretty damn valid reason to me.
