I'm not a fan of them, I think they're a colossal waste of time. They're extremely bland and uninteresting as well in this installment, none of them actually stick out to me, and the ones that do are purposely meant to piss off your opponent. Sheeva's applause, JC's trophy, Ermac's stomp, Kabal's head on a stick, Shang's recycled Joker fatality, every other bland fatality that ends with the opponent showcasing the opponent's body part etc. And people wonder why the general attitude online is so horrendous.

No blood, zombie kombat, or just leg sweep/projectile from a far is always what I do.

Also, c'mon guys, the whole "well that's going to tarnish your reputation etc" speech isn't really a concern to anyone when online is so terrible to begin with...I have like 80 disconnects or so just because I hate watching fatalities. I mean, really, all I'm bypassing is being locked into an animation and sparring myself 20 seconds and selecting "No" to a rematch.

All I bought this game for was the actual fighting, not the gimmicks. I'll go dust off my old MK1 and 2 cartridges or consider getting the crappy 3D installments if I want gimmicks! :p
This is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard.

You do realize you are in fact playing the game that is responsible for the ESRB? You should expect these kinds of things already and how you tell us you have to alter the game every match is a little bizarre. And it's a fighting game, you beat the shit out of people, no gimmick there.

My points 1. and 2. are still viable.

Also:

Does your Fatality quitting still grant the opponent his win?

If yes well whatever but don't be surprised if your reputation still suffers.
They get their win, and you get your loss.

@ Cew: Thanks for the info :)

@ Fatality quitters, do what you want then, it's your free choice, just don't be surprised if your opponent chooses to make fun of you with mail.

Not that i would do such a thing.

You're implying that MK was the SOLE reason for the ESRB. There were plenty of other violent games before '94. Doom, Time Killers, Lethal Enforcers, etc. The violence factor isn't even the issue here, yes MK has always been a violent fighter in comparison. However, outside of UMK3, they were all pretty appallingly horrendous - the ONLY selling point to them was the fatalities; which is what I'm talking about by a gimmick. That was their selling point. The games stunk and everyone knew this, but the fatalities set them apart.

All I'm stating is, this game is GOOD outside of the fatalities, and yes...frankly I think they were an utter waste of the team's resources. I would've rather their energy be spent making a functional trainer, researching better alternatives for online play (GGPO!) or building a more complex fighting system. Fatalities, the story mode and the challenge tower are all completely trivial in my eyes and a waste of their resources!

But hey, fatalities still sell like they did in 1992; so they're not going away anytime soon realistically.

Hell, Time Killers had a steeper curve, and that game had really bad controls.

Fatalities honestly are why this game is still around today, its what made MK.. MK.

You don't have to like them but they definitely arent going away.

I dont remember the last time i actually used one but I dont mind them as long as they arent being spammed every win.

Except for quan chi's leg beatdown...

I find it funny that the best MK game UMK3 has the worst fatalities. A fatality is only hype for so long after you done it a couple of times then its just boring to watch. But that doesn't mean you should quit thought.

I'm one of those in the guilty party that finds it necessary to spam Quan Chi's Leg Beatdown every win. ;)

That's what I think too, that made MK MK and are the reason for the game still being around, but I got bored of watching them. And you know, once or twice out of 10 losses I would say, okay, but it's like 8 or 9 times. Yes, except for Quans beatdown. I could watch him beating the shit out of a headless body while so much blood pours out that I can't even find a thing to compare to for hours :D .

@IniquityDM: IMO, the fatalities are good, people just use them WAY TOO MUCH, and I love the lore of MK so the story mode for me is important. I'm thinking about buying a PS2 just to play the crappy 3D games. But yeah, the challenge tower is just a waste of time and energy.

It's 1 random fucking match¡ Quit being a lil bitch about it. It aint like player matches and being fatalitied by same person over and over.

I will do a fatality in ranked when I win but I will not do them in player matches.... Unless they are done to me and I get rematches

Suck it the fuck up

What REALLY gets to me is when someone wins a match and they take forever and a day to get the inputs right. I mean seriously... You can go to the bathroom, make a sandwhich, update your twitter or anything and they will STILL be there trying to get the fatality to work.

I might be overexaggerating a bit but you got to admit, the timers on doing a fatalty is too long.

I'm guilty of that sometimes sorry^^

I consider it bad etiquette to fatality in ranked. I usually just kick my opponent down so we both can get on to the next game. Some fatalities have quite lengthy animations that most players have seen countless times.

In KoTH or offline casuals though it's usually a party favor to do a fatality people want to see.
Totally agree. Even babalities are ok to me in KohH. The whole point there is to showboat a little.

Am I the only one who drops a cyber sub/cyrax bomb or fires a sektor homing missile before the input? I do it a lot in koth to show off.

Really the only time i do fatalities is when i can hear the opponent getting frustrated. lol.
other than that i just upper cut. or babality if i get the chance...

After I lose in ranked matches I push start and if a fatality starts I quit. Seriously, I am bored of watching those and we can't rematch so why should I even think about not leaving? I get some hatemail for it like "NOOB YOU LOST DONT QUIT" and stuff, but I don't care if I lose, I want to play not watch 15-20 second videos I have seen about a 100 times already. Is it rude?
Fatality dropping shows poor sportsmanship. In MK, when you win, a fatality is your reward, that's how it's always been. :salty:

I think fatalities are just a waste of time. If i win ill just do a normal or a special that i think looks cool. But everyone wants to do fatalities. Whats the big deal? We've all seen them 100 times over, why make me sit through instead of just getting into the next match? Maybe if its like the last game of 3/5 and you're gonna not rematch again, but a fatality for one win is just annoying. I've started doing zombie kombat just so in case i lose, we just explode at the end.

No, I don't have a problem with them - unless the opponent is talking all kinds of shit. Then it bothers me a bit, but I don't quit. Ever.
That being said, I don't do them myself UNLESS said opponent's gameplay style bothers me (Raiden / Noob / Sindel / Kano spammers and supreme zoners).

These are all legit playstyles but they annoy me. So working harder for that win feels complete with a fatality/babality if I can get it in, along with the rage mail that ensues.

Arguably the greatest payback you can attain in MK

you should be able to quit whenever you want

as long that this stupid buggy online matchmaking responds with 'your opponet has left the game' rather than 'the game session is no longer available' and counting towards disconnect and a loss for the winner

this really sucks

It's just ragequitting under the pretense of 'saving a colossus amount of time'. Whatever makes you feel better about yourself I guess.
