Gorilla Grodd General Discussion Thread

TheRealOnlyGoonie

Hey You Guys
Grodd is not a powerhouse. Inj is a game where everybody can do everything. Grodd has the least range in the game and no projectiles, so he has disadvantage in every matchup. His only strength is his damage, his drawbacks are so many i wont even start. And he has drawbacks over drawbacks (for ex. his HUGE body that makes impossible possible) to cement his postion. Patch broke Grodd completely. His vortex is bullshit, but getting there is super hard. Think Killer Frost in IGAU. And Inj2 has more ways to escape vortex than IGAU did.
I KEEP SEE U SAYING " THE PATCH BROKE GRODD COMPLETELY" WTF DOES THAT EVEN MEAN??

I basically described everything before on numerous occasions. I've also posted some vids and tech on Grodd. Nvm I am actually a much better FG and Inj player than you are

It's all so very confusing.
So, about the cancels..

Are they primarily used to pressure on block/ensure safety, or are they to convert into damage? I'm just fiddling around for fun atm... They really arent hard to get sitting in training mode on a target that I know is blocking/not blocking and where I can fall in to a rhythm, but I cant imagine landing these consistently in real matches especially if you have to hit confirm and such. Granted, Im landing most of them, after 10m practice only about 30% of the time (I hit a rhythm and land 3-5, then miss 5-7 and so on) with no followups.. Just hitting the SC into nothing. 112 into d2 for example I am way less consistent with.

IN all honesty this post is largely pointless, so feel free to ignore me, I'm just fiddling and kinda wondering how in the hell you all use these in real matchs off single normals.. 112 and 22 I get, you have some time to make sense of what your doing, and while a lot of the single normal stuff is actually easy to cancel.. confirming properly THEN cancelling sounds like its own species of hell.

I am fully relaxed man, the video is just pointless
I dont think he made the video to show us all how bad-ass and amazing he is at Grodd, I think he was just happy that he hadnt been playing much recently and was still consistent on some of his cancels.

@ entropic

Its meant to be used for + frames on block, and meter build in the neutral.

While I think most find it easiest after 112 and 22, those have gaps in them, making them far from ideal for forcing + frame block pressure.

That being said, there are some combos like 112 stmpede cncl b2 (or d2... idk) -> bnb

Here's the deal, m8. If you manage to ask me this without ever using capital letters I'll indulge you with an answer.

There it is...
So can you basically not leap except for combos versus certain characters.

Like cheetah has her db2 and j3 which are a pain to AA even with a good AA. Grodd seems to have shitty priority on all his leap attacks

Seriously Casual Player.

You are correct. His leaps should be combos or used for oki, because his priority sucks out loud.

Hey You Guys
I CANT BELIEVE IM ASKING THIS BUT WHAT IS THE TIMING ON THE LEAP AFTER THE AIR BURST? HALF THE TIME I CANT GET IT TO COME OUT. DO U INPUT LEAP RIGHT AFTER BURST HITS OR WHEN U HIT THE GROUND?

Something weird - I cant seem to special cancel leap 3 after the first one in combos. I can special cancel 1st and last (the one that gives flat splat) but not 2nd and 3rd lol. Quite awkward. Guess has to do with leap mechanics

I was pretty afraid that they were going to "fix" leap cancels so we can thank paolo for not taking that from us. I feel like paolo is traumatized by an early version of grodd that was absolutely top tier or something and now he has to keep him from regaining that power again.

I'm sorry but anyone who thinks he didn't need buffs or at least fixes has clearly not played a top player that plays the mu correctly.

Go play foxy and try to get away with your 22/ 112 pressure. Try catching him off guard with a slow ass leap..
