I know our matches are always godlike. Maybe your connection is just too good and that helps. I do have to admit I lag all the time with everyone. Its terrible honestly and makes me hate playing this game online

It's your ping that really matters, as Konqrr pointed out. The lower the ping, the better. So 11ms is great, which is why your matches run smoothly for the most part. Unless your ping is 100ms+, you shouldn't have many issues. The down and the up is a plus, but that's more important when it comes to downloading files etc. Not so much your connection.

Yeah I never really thought it was my connection. I knew my ping is good but I think its just the MK9 netcode thats shit. I play other games and never experience lag but with MK9 i always run into lag all the time. ugh its frustrating cuz MK9 is awesome but the online ruins it.

In Australia we can ping each other at roughly 10-15ms. We can download at ~1-2MB (read: MegaBYTE, not MegaBIT)/second speeds.. yet we have terrible MK matches. With those stats it's hard to state that it is a connection problem (especially when we are a lot closer geographically to our opponents than you guys are sometimes). It's not too much to ask to expect decent socket programming..

Just coming in to say that DL/UL doesn't mean shit unless its REALLY low in either category. Like, has to be less than 0.5 MB for it to even make a difference.

Having a bigger DL/UL would only help you still get a good connection while other people in your house are doing shit online.

If you want to look at a number that actually would directly correspond to your latency it would be ping.

For example, in college I lived in the dorms for a while, had only ~0.75 MB in both DL/UL but my ping was only 5 on speed tests. I had the lowest ping of anyone I knew in WoW and could interrupt casts like a mofo. If my roommate did anything (even used firefox) it would make me lag though.

Also, I have a degree in Network Tech. I know things about this.

TL;DR - MK9 Netcode IS really bad, but if you're looking to improve your travels in online gaming, make sure your PING is low.

Interviews like this are ones that I like to see. Good, solid news. I feel like I won't have to learn 9 characters just to deal with bad match ups. Also, as I am late to this, to the guys with the basketball comparison. I'd much rather watch The Heat play an equally skilled team than to just run over say, the Bobcats. No one wants to see a blow out, where's the fun in that? The heat are obviously S tier, but so are the spurs. They both have different tools and reasons for being that way. I would find it more exciting to see them go into double over time and the game is decided on a buzzer beater than see the heat or any other team just win by 30 points just because they had a tool that the losing team had no outs to. Why watch if you know what the outcome is?

That ping is horrible. Are you on wifi or do you have the ethernet cable plugged in? If thats an ethernet connection then either your router is setup wrong or is bad.

Edit: I just ran a test at work and got 0ms. Wish my home connection was like that.

The way hector talks about environmental objects makes me take a step back and reevaluate how this game is going to be played.. I never really pay attention to the other factors such as unblockable damage during transitions and so forth..

Playing a spacing game for environmental objects is something new to think over.. Im curious to see how that will pan out in tournament play

Great interview Hector. Really liked what you had to say about nerfing vs. buffing. I think some people are missing the point on the extremity of things, but I feel what you're saying 100%.

edit: colors. Also, this interview was really unique insofar as what was being said from a developmental standpoint. Every time Hector opens his mouth, I get that much more hype for this game.

I did it from my laptop It might be different on my Xbox.

Things could be worse. THIS is the best I can get where I am, because I'm down in a valley on a farm surrounded by trees on every side. Though I thought the ping would be far worse.





I must say though, who are the extremely unfortunate ones with a worse internet connection than me. In the 13% left, are they counting those without internet...
