Really that much advantage off D4 tele huh? Well that just helped my game out going to cancel B3 into D4 more often then.
Not always enough to go for an overhead, but in most cases enough to go for a string.

Best to go for the overhead after a D4 without tele, but it can still be risky against characters like kung lao or reptile with a fast punisher. After D4 hits i generally go for 334 or B312 for either a combo or good meter building/chip damage.
 
I'll be picking up Raiden as my first (and likely only) secondary. My play time is very limited, so I won't be able to commit many combos to muscle memory. Thus, what are the top 3-4 situational combos I should focus on? Max damage midscreen, anti-air, corner, etc.

I've seen what looks like 3,3,4 xx port, shocker, 3,3,4 3,3, superman. It sounds like the timing on the shocker is tricky, but is that combo otherwise a reliable midscreen for 40%?

Will I need a separate set of simpler combos for online?

On hit, :d:bk provides enough advantage for uninterruptible :fk:fk:bk / :l:fk:fp:bp / :r:bp:bk, even if you have to dash in. I don't think anyone in the game's :d:bk provides as much advantage on hit as Raiden's. It's a free throw attempt on hit too.

Mid-screen:
:l:fk:fp:bp - dash - shocker, :r:bp~vicinity blast, :l:fk~superman (35%. Basically a full screen carry combo)

:fk:fk:bk~teleport, :r:bp~shocker, :r:bp~vicinity blast, :l:fk~superman (37%. Highest damage mid-screen combo. Pay attention to your positioning with this combo. It does a ton of damage and builds a lot of meter, but it's not always in your best interest because it can throw your opponent away from the corner. But this will also get you out of the corner and them into it)

:fp:bp:fp~shocker, :r:bp~vicinity blast - dash - :fk:fk:bk~superman (33%. This is used to punish unsafe moves that recover to quickly for the above combos to punish them, such as Reptile's elbow dash)

Corner:
:fk:fk:bk~vicinity blast, :bk, :fk:fk:bk, :fk:fk~shocker, :r:bp:fk~superman (43%. Max damage corner combo)

:r:bp:bk, :d:fp~shocker, :r:bp:fk~vicinity blast, :r:bp:fk~superman (39%. Starts from a launcher that is also advantage on block. Amazing combo)

:r:bk, :bk, :fk:fk:bk, :fk:fk~shocker, :r:bp:fk~superman (37%. Overhead starter)

Anti-air:
AA NJP - dash - shocker, :r:bp~vicinity blast - dash - :fk:fk:bk~superman

AA :fp~vicinity blast - dash - :fk:fk:bk~superman

:en shocker, :r:bp~vicinity blast - dash - :fk:fk:bk~superman

For online, I personally use a set of abridged combos that do slightly less damage but are very consistent in the lagosphere:

Mid-screen:
:l:fk:fp:bp - dash - :r:bp~shocker, :r:bp~vicinity blast, superman (33%)

:fk:fk:bk~teleport, :d:fk~shocker, :r:bp~vicinity blast, superman (34%)

:fp:bp:fp~shocker, :r:bp~vicinity blast - dash - :fk:fk:bk~superman remains very consistent online.

Corner:
:fk:fk:bk~vicinity blast, :fk:fk:bk~shocker, :r:bp:fk~superman (don't remember off the top of my head, but I want to say this does 40%)

:r:bp:bk, :d:fp~shocker, :r:bp:fk~vicinity blast, superman (37%)

:r:bk, :bk, :fk:fk:bk~shocker, :r:bp:fk~superman (35%)

This is embarrassing as shit, but I can't consistently get :en teleport to come out. What's the timing to it?

This combo scales more with F2. Better to go dash shocker or dash 1 shocker for the extra 1%.
Dash 1~shocker would work well. That's the online combo. I don't like dashing in to do a naked shocker in lag. Feels easier with another hit in there.

I knew it would happen the second after I posted this, but I've got a better handle on the input for it now.

That was an online combo and i'm sure you know how sketchy online can be. I barely go for B3 or dash F2 into superman in combos online.

It works online too you just have to do it a little bit faster than what you see on the screen...depending on the connection. I've been able to land it in connections with half a second or more button delay.

Yes it is possible but why risk it? 1 into shocker is the same damage. B3 i do immediately and still only hit it about 50% of the time. Not worth it for 1%

3 into Shocker works too and I find it the easiest to connect Shocker after. The only thing you have to watch out for is not to press Down before 3 (that's the mistake I make anyway) cause it comes out as...well...d3.

Yesterday My nephew was messing Around in the Challenge Tower so Raiden Shows up as his adversary and did this


Shocker~ Eletrocute, as a combo.

I Tried manny times to grab the Opponent with the Eletrocute after the Shocker but no success, does someone already did this?

3 into Shocker works too and I find it the easiest to connect Shocker after. The only thing you have to watch out for is not to press Down before 3 (that's the mistake I make anyway) cause it comes out as...well...d3.
3 scales just as poorly if not worse than F2. 1 or just a shocker are always the best options.

334 shocker doesn't work on either consoles anymore you may have just not updated the PS3. It has never occurred to me to try Ex shocker after shocker but ill test that out right now. Stand by for edit.

EDIT: As i thought doesn't work. Were you by chance talking about shocker into Vicinity blast?

Hi guys. I`m new on the forum, but been lurking site for few months.

What do you think is the best raiden combo after overhead in mid situation ?

Best I found is :
F4 >> B312~SH, F2~VB, :superman: = 32%

but that F2~VB in this particular combo is soo hard to execute so I use:

F4 >> B312~SH, B31~:superman: = 31%
F4 >> B312~SH, 334 = 31%

Any tips ?

tips for raiden

Hello im sort of just starting out with raiden but i would like some tips on certain matchups and "how to" use him. the bad thing about my raiden is it was born from filthy online play and ive pretty much only comitted 334 to muscle memory which isnt that great of a string. i know some combos but i really need help with 334 tele towards 2 shocker, how to incorporate en tele and actually how to even do it consistently lol, and how exactly to pressure with pokes and tele. any help will be much appreciated

ps ill ask about more matchups after i read some more threads and get some more offline practice really but i really need mileena, reptile, and kung lao advice

Mileena: Try baiting out her tele-kicks and rolls, after either one is blocked you can punish with an anti air combo for about 30% damage. Mileena's D4 poke can be a pain in the ass for Raiden as far as getting his offense started, try and block it then counter with a fast counter poke, but watch out for her overhead. If you're trying to cross her up with a jump in punch and she's doing her D4 kick to lower her hitbox, try a jumping kick into a superman instead.

Reptile: His dash makes him a slippery bastard. Play smart against him. If you block a dash he can be punished with a 121 shocker combo into F2 vicinity blast :r:r 334 :superman: for 33%. :en superman goes through all projectile pressure and Raiden has teleport, making it difficult for reptile to zone him.

Kung Lao: Mid to full screen superman will go over low hat. Kung Lao's teleport can be punished on reaction with an :en shocker into a 30% combo: :en shocker, F2 vicinity blast :r:r 334, superman. Punish blocked spin with a fast combo. Kung Lao's 24 1+2 string can be punished by a fast superman on block. Up close a blocked low hat puts Kung Lao at a disadvantage.

Thank you! i'll be sure to try it out next time around. if you were to pressure kung lao how would you with the spin? i try to pressure but i either get spun out or simply jumped over. you have a sick raiden by the way

It's all about reading when your opponent will spin. You have to respect it, but it's not a good idea to respect it to the point where your not going on the offensive. If you think he's going to spin then block it or let him whiff it, then punish him for it. Also Kung Lao can spin Raiden between any hit of his B312 string and before the 4 in the 334 string...just something to keep in mind since skilled/more knowledgeable players will attempt to interrupt your strings. One remedy for this is to do just a 33 into a teleport, or just a B3 or B31 into tele...this will throw your opponent off. Also using 121, 1212 or F24 to pressure is a good alternative if your worried about strings being interrupted. Also it's not a good idea to jump in excessively on Kung Lao.

If your opponent is jumping over you trying to cross you up you can check him with an :en shocker if you time it right, into 30% damage. You can also D1 or standing 1 vicinity blast into dash shocker, but it takes precise timing. :en shocker is the most guaranteed for crossups.

Pretty much either B312 or 334 can be interrupted with either an armored move (liu kangs :en bicycle kick for example), a 6 frame low poke (a lot of character's D1), or an :x-ray. Any character can interrupt those strings with an :x Ray except for Cyber Sub-Zero (who can interrupt with his ice parry), just something to keep in mind when your opponent is sitting on :x.

For the Mileena thing and punishing for 30%, the best I found was shocker right away, f2 VB 334 dive. This way the b312 never wiffs under her blocked ball recovery (seems to randomly do that). That what you use B?

That's probably the best one to use, either that or:

:fp:d:l+:bp, :r:r, :d:r+:bp, :r+:bp:d:l+:bp, :)l+:fk) or :)r:r:fk:fk) :superman: for 29-30%

Doing a :l+:fk:fp:bp:d:r+:bp, :fk:fk:bk works pretty well too and splats them fullscreen, but I think all of the above do more damage.

Yea, it does less damage, and sometimes the b312 goes under her, and she can re ball and full combo you while your marching out your wiffed string.

Yeah the shocker combo is definitely the best after a blocked roll...but that string works okay for a blocked dive kick.
 
I like this thread because it gives me info on how to beat Raiden as well as play him. He is my second character. Can you punish raidens b312 with reptile's elbow dash?

Is it true Raiden has advantage on screen at all times? Somebody posted that in the Reptile Q and A thread. Could really be some good halp.
