What's new

Games you felt that had potential, but failed.

that is a stupid and bigoted reason to be disappointed in a game. no seas tanto pendejo. if you have such a problem with it, maybe it's because there is a part of you that secretly wants a ballbag resting on your chin and a big vergota crammed down your gullet...

ANYWAY...

i am disappointed with

wwe all-stars and legends of wrestlemania. awesome cast, awesome idea, ass gameplay, graphics, and execution.

MK9. SSOOO close to being the best fighter ever, bar none. but awful net code, severely imbalanced characters, and too many unfair exploits just keep it from realizing its full glorious potential. when a game of 32 characters becomes basically a game of 7 characters competitively, there is a BIG problem.

soul calibur 5. just...ass. and it's a series i cherish, so it hurts to write that. :(
HEY why the offences? I just hate the main character, have u seen the MTV series where zelda is called xander or something like that? thats the best parody of that homo/erotic char ever made, the best zelda ever is called Darksiders 2 .

REO L4D2? What more did you want from a Run and Gun Zombie FPS?
Honestly they made the game almost impossible on expert. Maybe it was just the people I played with back then because they kept getting fucked up and I get blown up for helping them. I feel like they added a bit too much to the game too. LFD1 was tight because it was like an arcade style game. It was meant for fun and fucking around. Keep in mind I only play on Expert. The other difficulties are just lame.

LFD2 was bad imo because there were too many special infected running around on top of increasing the size of the hordes. I would love LFD2 if it had a mode where it limits special infected or completely removes them and keep the horde size it has. Spitter was not needed at all. I don't mind the charger or jockey though.

The characters didn't flow well with each other. I love Nick and Ellis as characters but when they are all together it there is no connection.

L4D2 multiplayer is sick. Maps were better on L4D though.

Poor valve. They try to release a sequel the next year and fucking people call for boycotts. Nevermind that sports games, capcom games and a certain shooter do the same shit all the time.

At least CS GO is like 15 bucks and black mesa is free.

i felt like the game was just not what i expected. it didnt feel like the rapture i played in Bioshock 1. i shelved the game before i beat it because of the mediocracy

Okay I'm in war mode now because nothing pisses me off more than when I read stuff pertaining to Bioshock 2 which is almost superior in every facet compared to Bioshock 1.

The storytelling in 2 was without a doubt better even from a novelistic point of view. You had a genuinely dislikeable antagonist, an interesting story involving the creation and background of the Big Daddy program and unlike the main character of Bioshock 1 they somehow made you have an emotional connection to Subject Delta. Jack, the main character of Bioshock 1 was completely faceless, he might as well of been Mario or Zelda and the same pretty much goes for Frank Fontaine also. Frank Fontaine is possibly one of the shallowest and exceedingly boring villains created in almost any form of media in history. His goals were shallow, he was completely in the dark spectrum of black and white (Bad story-telling.) Without any grey areas and for the most part the final battle with him was one of the most underwhelming boss fights I've ever experienced.

Subject Delta had a mission to rescue a girl who he was connected to and somehow you could feel his yearning and need to be with her, the concept was touching in its own way; Subject Delta, a monster, had such a connection both emotionally and physically to a girl that he was willing to literally tear through Rapture and anyone who stood in his way to find her. It's a window into the mind of a monster with bits of humanity shining through whatever he had become inside that cold diving suit.

I could go on and on but really, Bioshock 1 was infinitely inferior to 2 in both gameplay and story.

And I swear if one of the main reasons you like the story in 1 more is because of the whole "Would you kindly." Bullshit, then you should stop playing video games and instead go watch M. Night. Shyamalan garbage.

To be fair I did like Andrew Ryan alot. I think he's extremely interesting but they killed him off too early.

And also don't get me wrong, I didn't hate Bioshock 1, I just hear alot how people think it's superior to 2 but they never give any good reasons why. Sometimes I think it's just because it was new at the time and Rapture seemed more interesting then opposed to 2 when you've already seen it.

Bioshock 2's story is automatically better because it wasn't just a rehash of System Shock 2's.

Spec Ops: The Line is a game that comes to mind as being nearly perfect at what it's trying to be, but it's so rough and unrefined and at times clumsy that it's heartbreaking.

Dungeon Keeper - The potential best sandbox of all the 90's down the chute because of cut funds and poor design choices, requiring a team of dedicated people for a relaunch, which actually happened, with yet again another poor set of design choices:
Dungeon Keeper 2. - The game had a nice set of vids, some cool looks and... uh. Yeah.

Black And White - Same studio, same problems really. These games were EPIZING (Epic and Amazing at the same time) ideas that could have gone so much better.

Instead we have games today where you have no sense of ownership, no possibility for thinking or creativity, and it's getting old and bland.
WTB good games plz.

You're joking right, DK was incredible! It was DK 2 that could have been better. It looked nicer, had better rooms, better monsters....it just didnt have the charisma of DK 1. Still, those two games are still miles better than a lot of so called modern day RTS games today.

No, I'm not kidding. I spent 10+ years playing DK1. It needed a map editor that it never had, and more content support.

As for RE4, I don't see why people don't like it. I haven't played the earilier ones
I think that explains it.
Sure, RE4 is a great game but it really isn't Resident Evil. I'd say it's more of an action-horror based game than the original survival-horrors where you were scrambling to find ammunition and trying not to shit yourself when you hear grumbling.
RE5 on the other hand is just strange. Chris is suddenly Muscles McBeef and the star of an action movie where he punches the shit out of black zombies and giant boulders.

Halo 3: ODST

It hurt my fingers just to type that. I pretend this game doesn't exist but the fact remains, stepping away from the Master Chief story could have great and educating to the players who didn't follow the story that closely.
Although I agree, I would say that this game wasn't bad.It was overpriced. But it really DID have lost potential in it due to the fact that you had no Matchmaking for FireFight nor a PvP Multiplayer.

It's over priced now at a pre-owned price. I REALLY enjoyed firefight though and that's because I had people to play with living with me and near me but story line just was a complete lack luster. I was one of the few that understood that "you aren't Master Chief anymore so stop complaining that you can't jump high or you die faster". I liked that portion of it but they just could of done such a BETTER job with the story, not to mention, too much wondering around.

The attempted detective story was ok since it was the first time Bungie tried to make the Hero not all-mighty.As for the "too much wondering around", I loved it!I love Open-world/RPG First Person Shooter/Action games. And so does a lot of other people knowing that games like Fallout 3 , Fallout New Vegas , Borderlands , Bioshock , Dead Island and etc. are doing so well.ESPECIALLY if they're co-op oriented.

Wasn't DK pre-online gaming or not, I cant remember?

I never thought i'd see you on a MK forum again buddy! Are you here for the inevitable TTT2 storm about to sweep this forum?

Oh sir don't get me wrong, I got a half mass just reading the words "Border" and "lands" together, I've been playing that non stop for the release of 2. But ODST "wandering around" was very linear and repetitive lol. There wasn't any side missions or much purpose to exploring the open world.

It was for a while but it was actually the cut funds. Well, I'm on and off. I'm still maining Jade, and not really keen on tag games personally. :) I'm just hopeful that these fine gentlemen would eventually find something about Jade that makes people jump the bandwagon and makes me look all the mo' better!

I don't know why some consider MK9 a fail, as of 09th Jun 2012 it sells 2911767 units compared to 1996167 units from MvC3 and UMvC3 (Combined). I think the problem is that the game didn't reach some markets as the australian market or it arrived late (Germany). What is true is that the game lacked of intense marketing and advertising inside the fighting community unlike Capcom.
I really don't get this whole "it was the biggest selling fighter of the year so it's obviously better than the others" thing that people bring up to support mk9. I'm glad the game sold well as it they did a great job at revitalising the series, but sales means buggerall to how good the actual game is as a fighting game goes. I'm sure at least 3 quarters of the people who bought the game did so because it's a throw back to classic, gory Mortal Kombat, bringing back memories of the good old arcade days and such, not because they actually give a shit about MK, or any fighting games at a competitve level. So how does their custom affect how good the game is in the grand scheme of fighters? Fact is, Marvel, SF, KoF, BB etc etc are all superiour fighters, you can't argue that fact even if you don't like them, they are just much deeper and better supported games.

But I do love this game to bits, which is why I'd say it's perfect to be in the catagory of "it had potential, but failed", because if WB would just let NRS iron out those kinks and carry on supporting the game rather than haveing done it all at once before the game had a chance to breath (like they did), it would've really been a fanfuckingtastic game, rather than just "it's good enough for us to keep playing and delving into it, but just isn't quite as good as it should be". MK9 is a super fun game, but as it stands with the problems it does have, it's a joke in comparison to the other popular fighters of the moment...

...except SFxTekken... oh wait no, I did say popular.

American Mcgee's Alice Madness Returns. That was a special brand of "fuck you!". Wait 10 years for a short, generic "creepy" game. And get a copy of my beloved original that's aged horribly and is positively unplayable on a console. It's like someone was getting their jollies off on disappointing fans....
I enjoyed Alice Returns, but yeah it wasn't as great as it should have been, but I still liked it. But alas it is true, the original has not aged well at all =[
