Pick an archetype, I guess you could google them. Then try to find cards that complement them, as well as implementing a few of the staples mentioned by REO earlier on in the thread. I usually google deck examples based on archetype since it saves time and allows for personalization.

There's a bunch of cards that make me wonder why they aren't limited or banned. Hell, Mirror Force will completely change the tide of a battle no matter what and the threat of it being around is pretty much always there since everyone can put it in their deck in this type of environment where rarity isn't an issue.

I mean there isn't anything stopping me from putting three Needle Worms in my deck destruction deck with multiple spell cards that put them back face down.

And a lot of you that are new I've noticed you're not taking advantage of the extra deck. Even REO who has been playing for awhile doesn't use it. I know Synchro's and XYZ's are new to you, but trust me, you won't be able to win consistently without them unless you're running chain burn or Exodia. Start using your extra decks, play to win fools.

Can you guy a quick explanation of synchro's? There are SO many new cards I honestly don't know where to start. I'm building a dragon deck. So we get to hold 2 decks then? I better get back to work on it. I'll friend you and whoever else as soon as I'm ready to duel. XYZ's are just cards that compliment and/or fuse with each other correct?

What are the "side" and "extra" slots for in creating a deck?

Can you guy a quick explanation of synchro's?

The side deck is for rematches. You can rematch your opponent, but you cannot change decks. Think of it in a tournament sense. Matches are I believe 2/3, and a side deck provides you the opportunity to switch in cards or swap out cards depending on your opponents deck.


The extra deck is for XYZ, Synchro and Fusion monsters. You guys probably already know about the Fusion monsters, since they were the first and only extra deck monsters you could have. Now there's XYZ's and Synchro cards.

For a Synchro summon, you have to use monster cards who's total level is exactly equal to the level of a Synchro monster that you want to summon. Also, you will need one of the monsters to be a "tuner" monster, which is displayed on the card where it says "Fiend/Tuner" etc. You just have to read what the conditions of the specific Synchro monster are. Some simply require 1 tuner monster and 1 or more non-tuner monsters who's combined level equals the Synchro monsters level.

For example, look at Brionac:

It reads: 1 Tuner + 1 or more non-tuner monsters. So, a level 2 Tuner with a level 4 non-tuner to equal level 6 will be what is required to Synchro summon Brionac. And to do so, you have to have the Tuner and the Non-Tuner on the field, and just send them to the graveyard.

Some Synchro's, however, require additional things not just a tuner and a non-tuner. Some require specific monsters or cards. Some require at least 2 non-tuner monsters with a tuner. It just depends on the card, and the conditions to summon it will be on the text on the card.

XYZ's are a little easier to understand. All you need is 2 or 3 monsters with the same level. Then you overlay them, and Special Summon the XYZ monter on top of the other cards. Some XYZ's require specific types of monsters, however. Such as "2 level 4 warrior type monsters", so pay attention to that. I dont like all those new cards I followed a yugioh ds game up to the 2008 version and I had some really cheap combination with black luster soldier envoy of the beginning. the rest has become too complicated for me lol.

Thanks for the explanation, though I had experience with Synchros in the DS games I didn't exactly know what XYZ cards were all about. I thought they were talking about the Dragon Cannon cards for a while at first, lul. They definitely seem less broken than Synchros, but again with more ways to summon it seems pointless to try and tribute summon anything with more than one monster which renders a lot of monsters obsolete in a way.

Either way, I'll be on tomorrow if anyone wants to duel. I'll probably look up some of the new cards that weren't in the DS games at some point and try and catch up a bit in the metagame.

Yes there are banned cards and restrictions, which is good because i had the cheapest damn exodia deck when i was a kid lol
