Henry Rollins is an extremely intelligent man, you should try to attend one of his spoken word tours; he has many on CD as well. You should read his books as well. Black Flag/Rollins Band are also both awesome. I've seen Rollins Band live and he's still very active and engaging for his age, looks good too, doesn't look like a ghoul like Iggy Pop for instance. I tend to gravitate towards intelligent, open minded and cool ass people. Doesn't matter who it is, musician or not, if their a giant cockwad I lose respect for them; life's too short for that crap. I also deliberately have a small amount of personal friends who specifically fit this criteria because again, life is too short. I don't bother with acquaintances or people I cannot stand, screw it.

I can roll down and go see Cannibal Corpse, for instance, and hang out and talk with George Fisher and Alex Webster after the set. Both friendly, open minded, cool ass dudes. Alex Webster is also a phenomenally talented musician. Les Claypool is another musician I really respect because he's a smart extremely talented dude. Deicide for instance, though I find them humorous, I'd never dish out money to support them or pay to see them live because Glen Benton is an asshole. I know multiple personal accounts of the Hoffman brothers; the former Deicide guitarists who would walk around the crowd and ask people specifically what they had for them - booze, drugs, money. Didn't have it for them? Wanted nothing to do with you even if you were a fan. At the end of the day, people are people. Assholes are assholes.

I can understand that, I mean I do require people to have a certain amount of tact to be respectable and worthwhile supporting, since going to one of their shows is basically giving them money to support their ideas/life . I have seen Henry Rollins on one of his spoken word tours actually, it was really interesting, one of my friends said he wished he brought the movie Heat so he could have had him sign it, Henry was really cool, signing a bunch of stuff and taking pictures with everyone who asked for one. Me being a lazy ass didn't bring a camera though.

I still consider Pantera to be one of the biggest rip off bands in history, obviously you know the story about them traveling down to Louisiana and seeing Exhorder and completely emulating their sound. Phil is such a jackass too. Dimebag was really talented though, I cannot deny that, Dimebag was a hell of a guitarist and I have nothing negative to say about the guy.

But yeah, here's Exhorder for anyone interested, they had this sound when Pantera was still in their lame glam metal days.

haha I had never even heard exhorder really before now but I can see the similarities for sure lol. I've never been much of a fan of them anyways. They are alright but just not my taste. I saw Hell Yeah before, well part of their set anyways (which has former Pantera members) I couldn't stand them personally, they were so cheesy. But that's just my opinion. But the main reason I was there was they were opening for Korn, who I know a lot of people probably don't like because they brought abouts the likes of many shitty nu metal bands. But they put on a hell of a show and I had been listening to them since Life is Peachy had come out. The laser lights were awesome. There was also this super cute gothy looking chick who had 2 sleeve tattoos, pretty short and had a huge rack haha One of my favorite concerts ever just because I got to watch her bounce up and down a fair bit during the show.

I've seen a few good shows I've enjoyed though, the Megadeth/Slayer show, Marilyn Manson, The Pixies, Korn, Billy Talent, Cancer Bats, Nine Inch Nails twice, Bauhaus, Queens of the Stone Age, The White Stripes, Guns & Roses (yeah Axel's a tool but they put on a decent show), Stone Temple Pilots, and numerous smaller local and non local lesser known bands at bars downtown. I was out of town one summer and missed a festival we had that the headliners were Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, and a Perfect Circle. That was a bummer to miss.

Lol none for anthrax, it's not that they're bad, even though in the majority of people's opinion last of the big four. I mean there an amazing band and 4th ain't bad its just that there not as good as the other three.

Since matt heafy of trivium and dimebag are considered the 2 greatest guitarists of this era its kind of hard for me to not be biased lol trivium is still my favorite band of all time. Like kabal, they are in a tier of their own.

Metallica for me, Megadeath isn't bad though. Slayer imo is too "evil" for my taste and Antrax I don't know much about outside of a few songs.

Megadeth, hands down for me. That being said, Dave Mustaine is fucking stupid as a person. But that doesn't take away from their music. The only band I've seen live of the big 4 though was Slayer... but man that was so awesome.

Also, Trivium is fucking trash, fake-ass metal. Their dude is nowhere even close to the greatest guitarists of this era.

Well if he's talking about this era as in right now, I'd say people like Tosin Abasi, Muhammed Suicmez, Paul Ryan, Dave Suzuki, Mikael Akerfeldt, and (off genre) Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. I also just realized i went through a ton of ethnicities. That wasn't even intentional.

My vote goes for Slayer, closely followed by Megadeth. Anthrax has always felt like the weakest of the Big 4 to me, and I could never really get into Hetfield's vocals. I barely listen to thrash now, but Slayer is still one of my favorite bands along with Death, old Sepultura and Sarcofago.

I've been on an old school Death Metal trip lately, just going through Youtube and finding bands like Gutted, Cancer, Brutal Truth, Autopsy, Cryptopsy, old CC, Gorguts and Decomposed.
