^Top 4 covers thrash. I hate subgenres but for the sake of keeping it real, Pantera can't make the list. Even if they are one of the baddest bands of motherfuckers around.

*Bold statement warning*

Metal band tier list:
Kabal tier: trivium, pantera, lamb of god, slayer
High tier: black sabbath, slipknot, megadeth, metallica
Mid tier: all that remains, bfmv
Kano tier: disturbed, kano
I laughed.

Kano Tier haunts him everywhere he or his tier goes.

I don't have tiers so much as a general bag of bands I <3 to metal death...Slipknot, System Of A Down, American Head Charge, Cradle Of Filth, Cold, Rage Against The Machine, Otep, Tool, Deftones, and a tie for 10'th between Sevendust and KoRn.

You know, I agree to an extent but I have a hard time equating his personal life at present with his music of the past. Rust In Peace hasn't left the disc rotation in my car for over a year, regardless of how dickish Mustaine's become.

Mustaine and Hetfield are now both soccermoms. Start drinking again. Raise Cliff Burton from the dead or clone Cliff by extracting DNA from Kirk's mustache and we could have another Metallica on our hands.
It's just impossible for me to separate it. I mean, Hetfield's lame too these days, well...Metallica in general; let's be real here. But they don't go out of their way to make themselves look like rambling idiots. Extremely whiny money grubbing bastards? Oh yes, but we all know that's what Metallica has become anyways. Metallica are just soulless musicians these days capitalizing on their former actual success. Metallica died with Cliff and I think they all accepted that, the fans certainly did.

I wish Mike Muir didn't turn into an enormous assclown making GOD AWFUL MUSIC, Rocky George didn't lose interest in Suicidal Tendencies and Robert Trujillo could all somehow make S.T. good again but it just ain't gonna happen.

Ah...S.T. used to be awesome.

Not supporting bands because of what they say outside of their music is not really a big deal to me. As long as the music is good and they aren't going out murdering and raping people and being despicable human beings I can still tolerate them. Jim Morrison was kind of a dick at times, Kurt Cobain was kind of an asshole at times, he was a junkie too with health problems which probably didn't help make him pleasant, but that doesn't mean I'm going to stop listening to great music they made.

Henry Rollins seems really intelligent and I like his music, Marilyn Manson seems fairly smart and I like his music too, mostly the older stuff anyways (Antichrist superstar, Mechanical Animals, Holy Wood I can listen to from start to finish). If I stopped listening to every band that had someone say something dumb or act like a dick I wouldn't be listening to much.

Also, it pisses me off that Possessed, Death Angel, Exodus and Testament never really earned the respect they deserved as major thrash bands in the US. Possessed is probably my favorite American thrash band. Evildead was another awesome American thrash band that nobody knows about.

Metallica > Slayer > Megadeth > Anthrax.

I listen to all of Metallica's albums, except most of Reload and half of St. Anger. I'm a rare breed who actually thinks Reload is of lesser quality than St. Anger. Fixxxer's pretty much the only song I listen to regularly off of Reload.

Kill'Em All = 9/10
Ride The Lightning = 9/10
Master of Puppets = 10/10
...And Justice For All = 6/10
Black Album = 9/10
Load = 8/10
Reload = 4/10
St. Anger = 6/10
Death Magnetic = 8/10

I think the main problem with St Anger is that it sounded like it was recorded in the cheapest studio they could find, however I'm sure they payed way too much for it to sound that bad.

Yeah, I definitely see that as a negative. But it kinda grew on me as a style, Some Kind of Monster had a pretty kickass beat going and Sweet Amber has a sweet guitar near the end. Some of the tracks went on a little longer than needed as well.

yea the snare is..........ping ping instead of snap snap. I agree, but they played that record live for a DVD or something for when it came out and it sounded a 100 times better. It wont go down as the best 'Tallica album but it was more............therapy for some human beings going through some rough shit.

Slayer and Anthrax are going to be at Mayhem Fest this year. Possibly Megadeath as well, can't remember.

However, Metallica ftw!

Out of the big 4, I think metallica earns my vote, megadeth right behing. Metallica really introduced me to metal so naturally I owe my musical tastes nowadays.

But trivium, tool, SOAD, and pantera are better. Soooo much better
You, sir, for saying trivium, are my new favorite poster. I would like to extend to you a cyber-high five.

As soon as Reign in Blood was released... This debate became redundant...... =)

Slayer.

New schoolers that really impress me are: Unearth, AILD, Shadows Fall, Trivium, God Forbid, Machinehead, Slipknot, LoG, Devildriver, Chimaira, Municipal Waste... and alot more I don't care to write a novel about

Someone better have gotten their ass kicked over the snare in St. Anger.

So. Fucking. Irritating.

Also, Vagrant wins for throwing in some great choices as well.
The Century Media label produced so many good bands, it's not even funny.

I miss Candiria.

So many great albums from these bands makes it hard to choose, but I'd go with Slayer just for their contribution to death metal. And why is anybody taking into consideration what these bands have done lately? None of them have really released anything good in the last 20 years. As for Pantera replacing Anthrax, it doesn't make sense. It's the big four of thrash, which Pantera isn't. Also, when Pantera was putting out stuff like this:

Anthrax was releasing stuff like this:

For the people complaining about their favorite thrash band not getting the respect that they deserve. I don't buy it. Exodus and Testament get plenty of respect, and really are just as popular as Anthrax. Do they have as many fans as the big four? No, but that's because many of the big four's fans probably aren't that into metal such that they feel the need to search for more obscure bands.

But if you're into thrash, you know who Heathen is, you know who Forbidden is, you know who Coroner is, you know who Annihilator is, you know who Sepultura is, and you know the German bands. Artillery, Atrophy, Anacrusis, Believer, Dark Angel, Defiance, Demolition Hammer, Exumer, Holy Terror, Mekong Delta, Nuclear Assault, Overkill, Sabbat, Sadus, Toxik, Vio-Lence, Voidod, Xentrix, and Whiplash. Yeah, you know who they are too.
