I'm mixed on the SCVI version.

The meter stuff is fine. Think it allows them to have some really neat moves with a cost. They're as quick as any other animation/combo.

The installs are....a mix. It can really feel like the fight just doesn't matter until your opponent pops and install. I don't think the idea is inherently bad, but i'm not sure every character NEEDS one, nor that they should be quite as crucial. To be fair some characters hardly ever install while others make it their full gameplan.

The supers can suck, but are at least sooooorta fast. How common they are varies by the cast member, but it is annoying when you're seeing them more and more.

Either way, looks like VF6 so far is the last holdout on "earn your cool shit".
I wish more devs would add supers that aren't just a long animation. I actually like many of the supers in the MvC games (I also HATE a lot of them) that have interesting effects/uses. I prefer supers that do things like slow down the opponent, apply status effects, change character moves/effects, etc.. Even ones like Ryu's big Shinku Hadoken is interesting because you can aim it or if the opponent reads it and plans accordingly, they can dodge it by jumping or somehow side-switching and getting a big opportunity.

Considering how creative NRS is, I wish they would do something other than flashy animation that does big damage. Reiko's is one of my favorites in MK1 just because there's a fun mix in case he reads the jump.

Yeah MvC has a plethora of great supers (homing bomb is a personal favorite), and I wish "oh shit they're in that mode" supers like shuma's chaos dimension were more of a thing as opposed to something you just combo into.

There's so much clever space there, and to some extent that's what MK has done with meter instead (and again a reason why MK9 felt so good, as it shared space with darkstalkers in that regard), but it sucks that "well the casuals fucking love these canned animations" means we're wasting 20+ seconds a match.

It’s not only NRS that’s trying to silence the community, it’s also TYM. Bullying opinions or different views is a thing for a while now. look at how all the older MK fans have stepped away from TYM… It’s typical NRS behavior thats reflecting in this forum/community…
People step away from TYM because forums are mostly dead as a general rule. The vast majority of FGC discourse happens on social media.

It's an archaic platform.

Also, in this case, like most cases, "bullying" translates to, "They disagreed with me."

Can't do much with people that can't handle being told they're wrong.

Yeah, because of social media, discord and reddit, niche forums and just forums in general have almost all died out. And if they haven’t, they don’t get very much activity. I DO think TYM is actually needed for the competitive NRS community though. Back when everyone was on here, the community just was overall better. It felt more like an actual community. Everyone talking with one another on the same platform, sharing tech, all the rivalries, tier list discussions, podcasts, etc etc etc all went through TYM in one way or another. Having a central hub for a smaller competitive community like the NRS community has is in my opinion vital. It’s just that a lot of players have their own communities centered around themselves as content creators. Which is great. But that means they only post on their own discords, on their social media, or talk with their stream chat or YT chat. It is what it is ¯\(ツ)

Nope.

If you're trying to run the set again, I'm down. Same PSN as before.
I don't play MK anymore.

If you wanna run a set in SF6, I'd be down.

I just noticed recently that you have less than like 2 hours in any FG other than Mortal Kombat and assumed you must have them on PC or something.

You should really check out the other scenes. You would maybe change your opinion on some of the things I'm saying. Perspective and all that.

I watch a lot of competitive SF6 and some guilty gear. I watch content that Brian F and Broski and Sajam, among others put out. I'm familiar with the game and scene.

So if the implications is, "he just doesn't know any better," it's wrong.

I wanted to play more SF6, but I had to make a judgment call. I have a full time job and other stuff outside of video games, so I really only have time to grind one game 'seriously.' I chose the one I prefer more aesthetically.

Also, if you look at their communities - specifically when it comes to online discourse - they're not that different from ours. Their high end players grind the game constantly whilst constantly complaining about them, legacy players hate Drive Rush/Heat/Wild Assault the same way legacy MK guys shit on Kameos, every so often there will be a vocal minority wanting to go back to an older title, it's all the same shit, really.

The only real difference comes in tournament numbers and part of that is due to things like prize pay outs and the like. But offline traveling and the risk/reward on "investment" is a different topic for another time.

Tekken is ugly af to me and I don't find it enjoyable to watch.

If you don't play MK anymore...

Why do you still post here?

It's obvious you don't like the game, or the people that play it, or the people that post here.

So....why?

Hey now. I actually think it's a good thing when people are mature enough to take a break, and still have reasonable discussion related to the franchise and scene.

You calm down there, lol :coffee:

YES!
I feel like if you're bothered by a animation that only takes a few seconds to complete, then you might have some kind of attention span issue.

I mean we could extend this further.

"God, I hate when Geras uses his f44 string. It's the same animation every time and it takes so looooonnnggg!"

At this point, all fighting game matches should end the first time someone presses any button.

And for the slow ones in the audience - I'm being hyperbolic.

Truth is, people will complain about anything cause that's what drives up engagement. The more likes and updoots we get, the more our brains make the happy chemical.

Soon, people will be complaining about the shoes Shao Kahn wears.

Truly, the forum for competitive talk.

Facts facts facts.

Next we're going to tell NRS to remove breaker animations because, "they take so long and it's the same animation every time, bro."
I know it's satire, but I sure as hell hope they don't ever do that. lol I love the sound AND animation when using a breaker with Tremor. The rock sound effects are unbelievably satisfying.

Are there any credible sources that are suggesting that there is money to be made in the FGC? Are there any serious content creators who are urging teenagers to drop out of high school or college in order to pursue a fighting game career? Mike and Tom ranted about this topic for hours yesterday, but I have not seen any movement within the FGC that claims otherwise. Whom are they debating? Whom are they trying to convince? This "issue" is a complete fabrication. LOL.

Am I missing something?

It is pretty made up.

There was a VERY brief stint during MKX where there were sponsors everywhere that a small, handful of people thought this, but it was never serious discourse.

Tom shadowboxing points no one actually made?

Never happens.

If anything, the people I talk to on a regular basis (ex. Pig) have been saying the opposite for years.

I think some players will always have a go at it regardless of what anyone says, but don’t think most players expect to make a year’s worth of income from tournaments this year.

Good point.

As disappointed as I am in Tom about the "fake news" and sensationalism of this topic, I am bothered by the rhetoric. I am no stranger to criticizing the FGC and its members, but insinuating that the community mostly consists of "broke people who are unable to pay their child support" is inaccurate, condescending, and counter-productive to building a larger community. While I oppose people pursuing a career out of playing video games, I support people playing fighting games for fun. Consequently, I fail to see the benefits in flexing your paycheck while disparaging others in a three-hour rant.

I think the most viable path (within the FGC) is through content creation, not tournaments themselves. Stuff like YouTube, Twitch, etc.

Even then, it's pretty niche.

I wouldn’t mind if next game was legacy tbh I like this game.
I really hope next NRs game is either MK or a Marvel fighting game. Injustice is alright I just don’t care for it like that.
Another Killer Instinct game would be awesome too.

MK or a Marvel fighting game.
hard pass on a marvel game over DC... the DC pantheon is a bazillion times better than marvel, imo.

That being said I would hope for another DC game, but dump the Injustice Universe. I'd like to see a classic DC with all the characters as we know them. Superman is good, etc etc.

MKvsDC2 maybe : )
