Life was wasted on you.
MK9 holds a special place in my heart because it was the first game I really started to play in a non-casual way. It's what got me into enjoying fighting games more than I already did.MK9 & MK1 are my favorite modern mk games.
I had always enjoyed them and been good at them, but I didn't know about frame data or anything like that. I just knew what worked against everyone I knew, which they weren't that great at them to begin with. lol
I didn't learn about frame data until Injustice 1 and happening across this very site. I discovered it was a game of numbers along with all sorts of mental stacks throughout. Coming here helped me improve my game immensely, but I didn't have the same skill ceiling as a lot of others. I naturally reached a plateau of a somewhat respectable level, I'd say. lol I'm not great, but I'm not terrible.
I don't know why I typed all that. Just the mentioning of MK9 took me back and I got all nostalgic. I loved that game and had no idea what impact it was going to have on my enjoyment and overall experience with fighting games. I entered a whole new world and discovered the FGC existed. I had no idea fighting games had their own dedicated scene. I'm glad I got introduced to it and that I still enjoy it to this day.
I'll bitch and complain all day about the game, but that's because I'm a salty asshole and my own worst enemy. I do love MK1 despite the things I dislike about it. I'm just glad to be part of a scene where other likewise individuals share the same interest and passion I do.
tl;dr - fighting games rock.
