I think FOREVER KING does a pretty good job of illustrating how Kung Lao can be absolutely deadly in the hands of the truly masterful players. Personally, I'd say he's the face of Kung Lao -- at least on Xbox Live.

Liu Kang is also a possibility, but he is represented by XBlades, and there was nobody prominent who mained him exclusively beforehand (Denzel? ATL Redd?). And I doubt he'd be talking about a new main, and then go to Kung Lao, who people have confused as his main various times.

Though I dunno why I'm surmising any of this when I shouldn't really give a crap who someone else is going to be using in this game, especially when he may just flip-flop and ultimately stick with Sub-Zero.

Honestly, I've thought about that a lot lately -- it makes a ton of sense since Rain is pretty much the anti-Sub and I believe hasn't been fully-realized. Really, he's one of the most dangerous characters in the game with meter just because of his ridiculous armor properties and sick pressure/mind-games.

While, I do agree that he has no offline "face," I don't see how Book Burning isn't brought up. He uses Rain incredibly well and knows the ins-and-outs of his game better than anyone I've seen play Rain. Without mentioning that I believe he is an "online warrior" and I'm pretty sure that there's not many more characters affected by the lag more than Rain is online. That said, I don't see what's stopping him from jumping into the offline scene other than just the will to put himself out there like that. He makes you realize that Rain is arguably a top-10 character and you could make the case that he has the tools for just about every character. It's just about the time and effort you want to put in to learn each match-up.

But it does make sense considering just how dead the Rain boards have been. It's pretty much myself, Book (he's been MIA lately though) and EMMURE since Enera has seemingly forgotten about him. I just hope that Tom maining Rain doesn't cause a stupid influx of people to use him in a flavor of the week-type fashion. Don't get me wrong though; I would love more activity and feedback on the Rain boards on here -- I've been trying to get it going since I started posting here.

If Tom really isn't using Rain then I think I have an idea of who it is -- it's got to be Kenshi. Kenshi, like Rain is severely under-utilized and relatively unknown. I mean, I've seen some great players with Kenshi (Tolkeen, Night Scorp, etc.) but there's really not a whole lot of people that use him. I truly feel after further exploring him, that Kenshi is easily a top-five character with a strong enough case to be made to be put right up there with Kabal.

I'll be shocked if it's anyone but Kenshi or Rain. I just hope he's not trolling us and just going to use Smoke or Kabal's broken asses because they do have a face (and quite a few) and while I believe Brady would bring a solid element to those communities, I feel like it would absolutely be a waste of time for him to try and pick those characters up -- and I'd hope he'd really want to stick by his word by maining a character without much of a face.

Alright, let's narrow this down:

If it's someone he's never played, it can't be Kano, it can't be Kenshi, it can't be Raiden and it can't be Noob (shoutouts to everyone who disagreed with me when I swore up and down that it wouldn't be). I would've thought Ermac, but he already deconfirmed that. I want to say Smoke, even if I think the character has a face (if not in CD Jr or KT Smith, he has it in ATL Redd), but I'm sure Brady will argue that Aris was the face of Smoke and has since quit the game.

I ALMOST want to say Sektor, as he's a character that isn't played as lame as he should be, but that's a grey area. You could argue that STH is the face of Sektor, but then you could argue against it by saying "Oh, well, he doesn't make it to enough tournaments." You could argue that Ketchup is the face of Sektor, but then you could argue against that by saying "Oh, well, he's a UK player and their scene is independent of our own." Do I think either of these is true? Not necessarily, but the case can still be made. I'm sure Brady could exploit some loopholes to make the claim that Sektor is his new main, and Sektroll was the closest thing he had to a face before Evo. He has since quit the game, so if we use some shady logic to rule out STH and Ketchup, Sektor fits the description that Brady has given.

Really, if you think about it, who isn't ruled out at this point? Everyone that Brady has played is out. Ermac, Kabal, Skarlet and Rain are out. The only characters that can be considerd "super top tier", judging by the opinions of various top players, are the following, with the "faces" in brackets:

Kabal (REO, Online Tony, Master D)
Raiden (JOP, B Wizz, Perfect Legend)
Jax (CD Jr, Tyrant)
Cyrax (Maxter, J360, Noobe, Krayzie, Mustard)
Kitana (Crazy Dominican, 16 Bit, Konqrr, numerous others)
Mileena (Pig, Death, Jer, formerly REO)
Sektor (Ketchup, STH, Maxter to an extent)
Smoke (KT Smith, CD Jr, ATL Redd)
Kung Lao (Perfect Legend, Marvaz, Classy Sasquatch, numerous others)
Shang Tsung (DetroitBallin)
Reptile (THTB, Chris G, and god knows how many more)
Sonya (Morty, RIU48, Clint to an extent)
Liu Kang (XBlades, Denzell Terry, ATL Redd)
Quan Chi (Insuperable, Shujinkydink)
Kenshi (Teef, Blackula, Pig as of late)
Freddy (m2dave)

...Obviously, not ALL of these characters are top five considering this is half the fucking cast, but these are the characters that are most commonly seen as candidates for top-tier in general. Just to be thorough, I included everyone who could even POSSIBLY be considered top tier according to popular opinion.

Incase you haven't noticed, you could argue that all of these characters currently have a "face" in MK9, and Brady has played several of them to begin with. So... What now? Who else has ever been considered "super top tier" by a reputable source? Who has some suggestions?

I dont know why else PL would put Scorpion in his top 5. there isnt any high level players besides Slips that play him, and PL had no problems at all /w Slips and seemed to know the Scorpion matchup really well somehow...

Do people not understand that Scorpion can't play lame without taking huge risks or just spending a lot of meter? Do people also not understand that Slips is easily the "face" of Scorpion? Come on. Kung Lao is a maybe just because Kung Lao can play a lot lamer than people seem to think, but Scorpion is RIGHT out. Scorpion gets most of his damage from mixups. He's not a lame character, by trade. He CAN play lame, but he's not going to win matches with it.

Quanchi isnt even close to top 5, he has way too many weaknesses. When he get pressured, he can not get out. All his pokes suck and he has a hard time getting in if he gets zoned out. That teleport is slow , punishable and his moves have slow startup frame. That character would be dead tier if the rune trap isnt there.

Loads have people have guessed it right by now, we just don't know who's right yet.
I'm still totally praising Brady for this though. If this was anyone else's new main, i for one, wouldnt give a fuck lol...(except maybe if it was 16bit. 16bit dropping Kitana would be like Amy Winehouse dropping ketamine)

Anyway, I highly doubt it...but i sooo want it to be Kano

Tom is a brainy smart player, and he has very good vision about this game, and all its technical issues.

This way, yeah, any character in this game, he is able to learn it and play at high level, the question is :

As majority of top pro players, he has to find a mix of personal preference for gameplay + plus a character viable to tourneys, at least , with a very good chance to struggle well against the "big dogs" of MK9.

Personally, other character that non Sub-Zero ,I think he could do very well with Raiden, Kenshi, Kung Lao, Smoke or Nightwolf, if one of these could catch his interest to dedicate a lot of time to master at ultimate level

Even Jax, Tom once analyzed very good the deep aspects of Jax gameplay, and so, he could do fine with him too.

Let's wait, he gonna show off who is the "chosen one", when time comes, hehe

I honestly would not be surprised if it's Sub-Zero and he's just saying this to troll. I wouldn't be surprised if he turned around and pointed out the following:

1) Sub-Zero USED to have a face; Brady was, before he dropped Sub.

2) Sub is secretly super top-tier because of some BADASS NEW TECH THAT BRADY HAS FOUND (reminder that the last time he said this was in October, and it lasted until NEC).

I could definitely see him contriving all this just to troll TYM, so I won't be surprised if this is the case.

haha, yep, that could be such troll master tactic, lol !! :p:D

Anyway, Tom needs to master a backup character at the same level he mastered SZ ..... so, if he is for real about really being in the lab with another character, to try him(or her) along all 2012 year with plenty of competition we gonna have this year, if so, maybe he is being really serious about training , analyzing matchups and doing his homework with another character to use, when he doesn't want to use SZ.

Brady directly referenced PL and JOP as top Raidens in one of his recent videos, nevermind that B Wizz placed top 8 with Raiden at Devastation, nevermind that Brady has played Raiden on stream before. Case closed.

I doubt you would win a lot of games with a lame Skarlet. Her projectiles are not that great for zoning. Her teleport is bad for counter-zoning. She can't even get decent trades. Skarlet is more rushdown and mixups tbh. She uses her projectiles to get in not to keep people out.

He specifically said a character that should be played super lame.

The moment I read "has no face" and began reading the first couple posts, i thought:
"What if Tom didnt really drop Sub?" Since technically he used to be the face of Sub Zero.

I wouldnt be surprised as well if he picked up someone new entirely.

**If he uses Kabal, wouldnt that be swag? :p


EDIT: Wasnt he recently denying the concept of a completely rushdown Sub Zero? He did say that his "new main" is meant to be played lamer than most.
