Culture doesn't evolve. Culture swings. Like a pendulum. What is considered bad today will be celebrated tomorrow and vice versa.
That's just blatantly not true. Attitudes towards racism, sexism, homophobia, all kinds of things have changed and evolved over time. Movie, TV, videogames, music, all of these things are way different with how they treat and are sensitive to those kinds of issues now compared where they were 5, 10, 15, 20+ years ago.

Sorry, when I was talking about culture, my point was mostly towards the depiction of women in media. And if you look at how women were portrayed in terms of sexiness from the 60s to today, you see the pendulum swinging back and forth.

I won't talk of racism because I have a lot to say about the hypocrisy of the supposed anti-racists, and this isn't the place.

Having more universal/meterless launchers available seems like something MK11 could have used more of, but I haven't really explored the counter argument to it.

D'Vorah for KP2 copium
Oddly enough, I missed NJK infinitely more than NJP in MK11. They were potentially SUPER plus, did a ton of block stun, added an additional layer to pressure for characters with good aerial presence, and were a universal hard knockdown option which was a great option for those without any across their whole kit.

NJPs are an odd one because I'm unsure if they'd have made the meta better or worse. Outside a couple characters like D'Vorah and Kung Jin, NJPs in MKX were just an extra pop-up after you'd launched someone. With how few launchers there were basekit in MK11, I think NJPs being present would have made 2-slot launcher specials that much more mandatory on most of the cast.

What were thoughts on NJP? Is that something they should bring back for the new game?
You mean the hop thing in MK11... yes.. bring that back and some version of the perfect block thing.

"You won't winter over?" Who the fuck wrote that?

Mk9 and mkx had it where if you would just jump straight up you would do a punch that bounces the opponent and pops them into the air.
In mk11 the attack that would bounce just ended up being their standard j1 or j2.. minus the pop. In 9 and x the animation was also universal.

The hop attack you are referring to didn't exist in 9 or x.

I would be all for the hop attack coming back to snuff wakeup jumps in the corner and wakeup throws again. I would also be all for the njp returning. Especially if they're gonna gimp all the special moves to require meter to capture or combo.

I just don't want the gameplay to be so divisive again. I want the majority of the community to find it fun and addictive.
I think that's only the case with MK9, really.

While I absolutely loved MKX gameplay, I do remember people hating the run mechanic and 50/50s.

And Mk11, to me, was just a very watered down MK9, but many seem to like the slower pace.

The solution to me is making mk9, just with no kabal, cyrax, kenshi, sonya and johnny broken shit.

I hope so too, but I'm doubtful. It's hard to please everyone, and there's always going to be that crowd of people who liked one particular game in the series best and have problems moving on. This is true with practically every single video game franchise.

I think MK9 had some advantages which would be hard to replicate nowadays. MK9 was basically the birth of the modern day NRS scene, and there wasn't really much prior to compare it to. The tournament scene, online scene, forum scene, all of that was different. I think getting those same kind of vibes for a game now would be tough, especially for someone who actually grew up in the MK9 era.

If someone grew up with MK9, they were probably in their teens, or maybe early 20's. Flash forward 12 years and now they're probably in their late 20's or mid 30's or even older. Hard to have that same relationship with videogames in your 30's that you did in your 20's or 10's.

Bruce Campbell 4 MK!!!
What I want out of MK12 or MK1 or whatever it’s called is for characters to have identity and a sense of creativity in their gameplay

In MK11 it felt like every character was forced to play this super specific way. If you have a Sub-Zero mirror for example, they’re going to be doing the exact same shit, one guy just might be doing it better.

Meanwhile in MK9 or MKX, while less balanced, it felt like each character could just do a lot more. It’s what made it hard for me to stick with a character in 11. I got bored.
