What's new

Why are NRS games looked down upon by high level FGC players?

Imagine defending the block button.
It makes MK unique because there is no proxmity block and you can actually freely walk in and out of the opponents range, baiting and whiff punishing them.
Tough there are problems with slow walkspeed and safe, forward advancing, combo starting mids that are really hard to make whiff and require no execution to pull off.

Complains are completely legit. At this point most people is just asking for bug fixes that absolutely affect gameplay and character strength. That should have been a week one patch.

This is supposed to be the nrs game with most support ever, 4 months and still nothing.
They have patched it 3 times on all platforms and released 2 characters, Kombat league and a bunch of skins?

It's there for nostalgic purposes only. Scorpion had his teleport in Injustice and nothing changed.

Absolutely nothing was patched or fixed. How can you be so delusional?

Honestly a lot of it is just that MK isn't popular in East Asia (MK11 is in fact banned, even, in Japan) and the FGC's "highest level" is generally centered there.

this is maybe the biggest factor. but times are changing. look at arslan ash slaying korean gods in tekken, or punk dominating sf5 .

Wut

There have already been at least 2 bugfix patches to date. The balance is vanilla but the bug fixing is definitely not.
So mid attacks and mid projectiles whiffing against all females isn't a bug. I don't care about the Towers of Time. No sane person bothers with such grindy nonsense. They should start fixing the things that matter first, and the things people are asking for. That includes character balance.

What community? There's none to be found here.
It's technically 3 communities in 1.
  1. The Scorpion community
  2. The try hard community
  3. The regular community
The Scorpion community is the largest, but usually doesn't comment on such matters. They know that Scorpion always survives patches, fixes, updates, etc. They won't argue with you about how powerful Scorpion is though, which is humble. So they just play the game and have fun.
The tryhard community is cancerous and ruin every match/every thread. This community consists of the Geras and Erron players. They don't care how they win, they just win. Their most notable catchphrases are, "get good", "adapt", and "stop whining". Most of the tryhard community refuse to acknowledge the blatant problems with the game, ie, fanboyism.
The regular community loves the game, and wants the game to have longevity. Therefore, they call out bullshit when they see it in hopes of getting their money's worth. Whenever there's a balance patch, it's because the regular community spoke out against something. Unfortunately, the regular community is in the minority, and often gets shot down by the tryhard community. For the most part, they have to make do with what they got for the time being.
All in all, we're one big happy community.

We are Many but we didnt make MK11 not one
People need to realize that the games "Life-Span" issues is another community problem.A game won't die unless we let it.Its up to us to keep a game alive not NRS or anyone else. But I understand these days developers have to constantly put out DLC and patches to keep people still wanting to play their game.It seems whenever NRS is done doing updates and such for a particular game we follow suit and allow the game to die because hell we aint getting content no more so whats the point of playing it anymore? When the next game?I know thats not true for everyone but most have that attitude I believe.

I think a lot of it comes from many wanting the latest experience for either the "fresher" experience or the experience of playing the newer game as it will be viable economically via tournaments, whereas the former will not. A lot of interest is focused into pro tours and their prize pools, and if people who compete (successfully/unsuccessfully bearing no relevance here) want to keep up with the scene they will tunnel all their attention and lab work into the new game. A lot of people will still be online but exposure wise it will dwindle as an inevitable consequence of releasing a new game. I still love Injustice 2 but I have played it maybe... once in the past 2 months?

Obviously they are going to patch things like ToT and krypt because that's what their publicity and articles are being written on right after the game drops. That's also what the biggest player base (aka the casuals that buy the MK brand in droves unlike other FGs) will latch onto about why the game is worth buying or not in dumbass videos like Angry Joe and whatever else.

Sad, but true.

I know right? lol

To be fair though, earning skins and such while playing ranked/kasual/koth lobbies/etc I think would have gone a long way to help this. Not everyone wants to play ToT. I know I fucking don't. lol

That was kind of a fuck up
Yeah, as I play I earn koins and whenever I have like 1mil I go spend it. But I guess we were really impatient in the beginning to unlock stuff for our mains too.

Yeah, I don't mind earning koins and unlocking stuff randomly with it. But while you're playing you should unlock skins or gear for whoever you're playing with a la injustice 2. Seems like a step backward.

Right, but they're developing that worldwide reputation by defeating East Asian players, which is impressing people. Without any East Asian players in the mix, the traditional FGC at large doesn't pay a ton of attention.

I don’t think you understand that ‘fixing’ certain things is not as simple as just clicking a button and releasing a patch the next week. Some things are buried fairly deep in the engine and can’t be directly changed by a designer-level dev without having side effects that then break other things, or have other anomalies due to the way that things are tied together.

Some fixes just take months, need core engine work, etc. That’s how game development is.

People imagining somebody just clicking their mouse and all of a sudden hitboxes are perfect need to educate themselves about AAA game programming.
