I love the meta and the overall focus on footsies. My only gripe is custom variations not allowed in ranked/tournament. Though, that might make the zoning of some characters (Jade) too strong so some zoning tools might need to be toned down somewhat.
Jade’s zoning? Lol her projectiles are so easily blown up, and she’s-7181617161 on everything. Who do you main? I play Jade a lot, so I might be able to give you some tips.
 
While I am really enjoying the game I still would have preferred more combo options. The game just feels a lot more limited. They could have kept the slower pace but kept the bigger combos making them do less damage. Overall though I’m happy with the gameplay, just wish there was more of it.

I don't even know how to use my defensive bar yet.

I only knew it would be used with Kabal's NDC cancel and Scorpion's Teleport cancel.

How do I use breakers in this game or are there none?

I've been playing CPU only and I will continue to do so until I complete the Krypt 100% once.

Overall I like the game for now.
My few gripes are;
I wish all 50/50s(with the exception of throws) were taken out.
I wish fatal blows were gone if whiffed or blocked.
Personally I think throw damage should be reduced slightly.

God no, that’s one of the reasons I hate MvC and most other team fighters, the damage is so damn gimped compared to the scale of your actual combos that it feels unsatisfying most of the time

It is early and I haven't played online that much, yet, so it's mostly a lack of matchup knowledge on my part but I played a Jade who had the air glaves, regular glaves, the ground wave, in combination with the move that makes her immune to projectiles and she zoned the living shit out of me lol. Oh, and I am currently playing Subby.

no because i get thrown 15 times some games. i know i suck but i cant help but get salty because ive been trying so hard to get better lol. i feel like id have less trouble if i could use the throw button to tech tbh

I'm a lot happier with it than MKX.

I'd say there are a few character that need slapped a bit, and I think D1s probably need a higher advantage oH on average. I wish they'd stolen Rage Drives instead of Rage Arts from Tekken - Fatal Blows definitely wound up being the worst part of the new combat system. Animations are way too long and become boring way too quickly; I'd at least like them to make them WAY more punishable on block to dissuade people from just swinging with them. Like Tekken they also probably should have made throw techs one input for both directions. I suspect that last one may happen yet.

Overall though I think the higher emphasis on footsies and whiff punishing will make for a better game in the long run. It's already more fun on average.

Also the fact that the air escape leaves the attacking player vulnerable in some cases is another part of the meta that I feel caters to scrubs. The game actually gives the scrub who can’t defend or punish any other way an opportunity for damage after you successfully get a hit into extended combo which should reward the player on offense in my opinion.
Breakaway is a nerfed version of breaker and puts the defender in a bad situation.
The fact that two players can say the exact opposite things tells me that NRS did something right with the air escapes.

Do you feel this way too? The potential is there with the custom moves in terms of balancing, but right now mk11 feels....shallow?
I am not calling the game shallow yet, but I am surprised how quickly players have discovered the best and worst characters, which may be alarming for the future of the game. Discussing tier lists and making statements such as "Geras is the best character" is not even controversial at this point.

I am an old school player who likes to see character specialists. If every high level player can pick up and play the current S tier characters, even if they are not necessarily broken, the game will become shallow soon. I would like to see more players do what Dragon has done with Cetrion, what Gunshow has done with Jax, what Pow has done with Jacqui, and what Semiij has done with Kitana and a lot less of Geras, who seems to have invalidated all command throw characters as pre-patch Deadshot did to zoning characters in Injustice 2. However, I am not certain whether players can currently express their gameplay personalities given that there are limited by the many worthless variations.

I switched from Noob to Erron Black because I was not having fun. I feel like Noob plays the game that the developers envisioned while Erron Black and the other S tier characters play something else.
 
I like it a lot. The presets are trash so I just ignore those and play with the custom variations and I love what you can do with all that and tailor the characters to fit your playstyle.

They do need to fix up the Krushing Blows and the Fatal Blows, though. For the KBs, some characters have decent ones where the requirements fit well into the playstyle of that character and you can combo into them while you're doing what you're already doing and others had weird gimmicky ones which are just completely random and you'd need to break out of that character's play style just to use it. Given how much damage they do, it puts certain characters on a completely different tier than others just due to this one thing.

Fatal blows need to be one-and-done, where if you miss it, you lose it. Having it recharge and come back just makes it way too YOLO and there's little downside to just throwing it out and it becomes way more of an annoying mechanic than a cool mechanic because there's no real point to putting any thought into whether or not to use it.
 
I like the rushdown of mkx better but mk11 has grown on me. Some characters are too unsafe imo like both kahns but i guess every game has a bottom tier.

The only thing i dont like about this game is the fatal blow mechanic being so lame. They should have just made them a 1 and done, hit or miss with no armor. 1 button unbreakable 30+% is good enough. They are also aboit 3 seconds too long and i am sick of seeing them
 
Good to see the ninja in top tier places but the overall game is watered down just like every recent release. We have found ideal combo routes on day 1 which should not be the case. Sonicfox is playing that little bitch cowgirl on autopilot, who was buffed just for him while every other top tier was cut or nerfed, rip d'vorah. The game is missing depth, is already boring and Kabal and Baraka are so basic that it hurts. Everyone should have at least mk9 Kabal execution/tech to make the game feel satisfying again. And the presets are a joke. Feels like playing half of a character. The tournament variations are trash 90% of the time. It needs to be fixed and changed asap.

This game is borderline perfect, it just needs to amp up some characters special moves and it would be 10/10 (its 9/10 as of now)

And for the people crying about a lack of depth, yorue exposing how the only thing you can do is one combo AGAIN.

They also need to promote custom variations period, and fix the tournament ones because they suck ass.

Grab, grab, grab, grab.

They do 14%!!! 50/50 so even if you read a grab and you guess the wrong way you lose. And it sets you up for a 30% grab?!

Make grabs do like 10% and not a 50/50 and maybe we’ll see other moves in this fucking game.

I like it a lot. Spacing actually works very well in this game and you very rarely feel like you had games just stolen from you without much you could have done differently. Fatal blows are universally unsafe and have no armor for 5 frames, they're completely fine.

Also some misinformation here. Throws, while 50/50s, are NOT 50/50 crushing blows for a large portion of the cast. Most have a KB off of only one throw, not both. Some don't have it at all. So if you fail an escape, you can tech their KB way and not eat 30+ percent damage for free. Also ducking is very powerful in this game as is poking. Strings being minus doesn't matter as much in this game because a lot of characters don't have incredibly good mid strings. A lot of characters can be disrespected even after a -5 string.
 
As someone who plays one of the currently weakest characters on the roster and strongly depends on spacing, I find that it's either my character that needs to get a lot stronger, or the top 10 will need to get a lot weaker.
I'm not sure whether the meta needs changing in itself. I know that I'd love d1 to be less mashable and throws not to work on downpokes but I'm probably alone with that as everyone I face seems intent on d1d1d1throw, which is an aspect of meta I do not personally enjoy.
I feel like the top of the game (Erron/Gearas/whatever) are actually finished and then maybe a little too good. Their movelists make sense and they have a couple of viable ways to play the game.

It feels like everyone else just isn't. Even other contenders for at least decent, like noob, look fucking dumb when you consider that supposedly BOTH varaitions are supposed to be playable.

The meta looks ok if you don't break out variations, but if you made each one a separate character its a dumpster fire. The core game is there, but I hope they have a hell of a lot of polish planned in patches because it doesn't feel done.
