Im still excited gameplay wise though, and i hope this game does well through that.

Gameplay wise, Im still stoked af. Ive got a local the Friday after Launch that I have a good chance at, the night one Gamestop tournament, CEO AND Combo Breaker.

But Id be lying if the kid in me, whose FIRST video game was MK2, didnt feel a bit cheated right now. I waited 4 years for a continuation of this story that is 8 years in the making, AFTER a reboot, only to be fed another reboot set up that didnt flesh out the cliffs I was left to hang on.

That kid in me is hurt and angry. As an adult I know that Im a small voice, Im not entitled, that I shouldnt fret, but I just honestly feel like this is a part of my life. Im sure many do.

I grew up raised by my Television and my Imagination. Dragon Ball, Pro Wrestling, Power Rangers, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and fuggin Mortal Kombat boiiii. Thats life. Even my unrelated hobbies took to the media.

Once upon a time, I was in my yard, 100% in my mind I was Liu Kang, dragon kicking invisible Shang Tsung and saving Princess Kitana. I was drawing my own versions of the classic Ninjas in my notebooks, making homemade ninjas like Kloud, the white ninja with an Ultra Great sword(ff7 reference). I have lived with this game since I can remember.

Fuck WB. Fuck Ed Boon, Im convinced Tobias was the idea man. I’d rather play Viva Pinata’s campaign and that game is for actual babies.

Im playing God of War 4 right now. They needed to make the game new because Greek Mythology was literally and metaphorically beat to death by Kratos’ long D. They set it in a new universe, and have me gripped. Everything that happened before is still a part of Kratos’ mythos and it matters. He is a complex character that I can sympathize with and understand. That isnt present with a single character in this franchise anymore. Youd absolutely have to pull from a game before MK9 to make me care about any character that exists, and that defeats the purpose of a reboot. ESPECIALLY since we’re clearly primed for another reboot now.

You can argue maybe argue that Liu and Raiden had true progression. IF they acknowledge what happens and Raiden is a human and Liu is a God. However, it feels a lot like 7 Games got turned into 3 and the sacrifices were in vein.


Idk. I keep saying back to the conpetitive side, but Im a half a pint and two b’s into another night on this Leave of Absence/wait for MK11. Eh. Story is disappoint.

Next reboot, please, whoever reads this:
more decent simple stories > less terrible complex stories

Who in the fuck ever said that this shit would be better than Deadly Alliance-Armageddon is a dunce. They took what didnt work(Zombie Liu, new chars with no motivation, bad villains, and an anti climactic climax), and doubled down on it hard(Revenants being glorified “Zombie” versions of every dead char, Kotal Erron Jacqui Cassie Takeda Kung Jin Ferra Torr Dvorah Kollector Geras and Cetrion having NO true goal to accomplish, Kronika AND Shinnok and even Shao to some degree now showing to be incompetent and non-threatening based not on their failure, but in their non-convincing performance throughout their given story time, and the climax is once again just a restart). Its sad. Its disheartening. I wish I didnt love Mortal Kombat for the first time in my life.

Facts. This is actual heartbreak.

I must say this, and I'm still screaming but also it's a silver lining...y'all don't know how deep it goes for me. I am a writer - at least in the sense that someone who can play a mean guitar is a guitarist even if he's yet to break out - who is finishing his first book and plotting a five act series that culminates in my take on Mortal Kombat. My entire life's work is rooted in this game and all my history with it. I loooved the MK9 reboot because I was over the moon about the possibilities that a timeline break could have on the rest of the story to come. And even when MKX did nothing with it, I told myself "nah, this is just the MK4 transition to the new endgame, this tale will come around..." And i really didn't HATE the story at all, especially when coupled with the comics, it made sense and looked like it would lead to way more interesting stuff as far as the other realms and characters. Everything since the Challenge Tower backgrounds and chatroom names in MK9 seemed to foretell "at some point, we are breaking open the six realms and redoing this thing right."
There was nothing about this entire title and storyline that I was looking more forward to than seeing how we got to the battle of Armageddon...and it got mailed in like a fucking tax return.

Kollector Jobs and has no development outside of “Shao Kahn is my boss haha”, Geras shows to be Immortal twice, but has no character outside of “grr Kronika sent me” and then Raiden sends him to the bottom of the Blood Sea tied to an anchor. So he can stay there instead of dying. Low key probably the best writing in the whole story.

I'm thinking, and hoping, that Sheeva and Sektor are going to be DLC. Cyrax, imo, will probably be customization options for Sektor.

From my understanding the only NPCs that are in the game are Cyrax and Sektor, HOWEVER they have their Mk9 strings and triborg additions but almost brand new particles. So it's tough to say

I'm still super hype about the gameplay, arcade endings (please have some good ones) and the krypt.
Kinda meh about the customization, not a big fan of the skins in general. Gear pieces looks cool tbh.

Story mode on the other hand.... well, it's pretty obvious.

Also, besides skins and gear, what can you unlock in the krypt? does the game still have artworks, music, fanart, model viewer, characters bio... stuff like that? I always appreciate these things (which Injustice 2 complety lacked)

I have the greatest 10 year old daughter a guy could hope to have because i took her mother on a date to Best Of The Best 8 at the ECW Arena in '08, and the rest is history. I wanna do commentary for this game because JR and Joey Styles are my heroes and I can call a damn good match. It is a thing.

Also, it needs to be said because I'd be a dick if I didn't acknowledge the positives:
-Sheeva looks AMAZING. They took all the beast off of her face and made her look like a Fusion Gem from Steven Universe and I would welcome her as DLC.
-if Cyrax and/or Sektor in their actual not-Triborg forms get in, i will scream like a girl and play them to death and back to life.
-Liu/Kitana and Raiden swapping roles, without erasing everyone else, is actually a really fucking good twist.

To trail on the positivity, dude being a mark is the best thing you can ever be and I automatically love you for it! Thats awesome about your daughter and how she was concieved. My dauhter just turned 2 this past March. Named Luna, just so happens to be because of a certain phrase used to tease a green Ninja...

Also, Liu Kang in the spotlight again does feel good.

Dvorah is a proper villain and no matter the outcome, should return at some point.

Sheeva got a hefty repackage, looking like shes almost finished. Im calling her the Tanya of the story. But, Sektor did have 2 skins. Im thinking Cyrax was written out. He consistently has been portrayed as suicidal/mortally regretful over his cyberization.

I am actually kind of HAPPY. That’s right happy.

Mk9 set itself up badly and it was ALL downhill from there storywise.

Mk9 murdered all of the heroes. Then left them as revenants which was annoying as hell.

Then in MKX the kombat kids were introduced who COULD have been good replacements for their parents but instead were in the same game as their parents all because they killed all of their heroes off.

Now they realize what a bad mistake it was and had to use time to get those same heroes back alive in some way shape or form.

It is a classic case of a snowball effect. MKX did well because everybody thought the story would take some amazing turn after killing all of the heroes off. It didn’t. Now MK11 is banking off of nostalgia which is fine but it’s not really doing anything interesting.

The one thing this timeline did was introduce kotal, d’vorah, erron black, kollector (cool concept), and ferra/torr. Cassie was good but ultimately should be a replacement for her mother and father not another character to take up the roster. Same with Jacqui actually. Takeda and Kung Jin were both fine but were rather bland in the end. These four should only come back IMO way down the line. Apologies to their fans.

The franchise needs a HARD reboot. One that preferably doesn’t pay attention to these timeline shenanigans.

Start off in MK1 for the next game with the originals Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Liu Kang, Sonya, Johnny, Kano, Shang Tsung, Goro, and Reptile. Maybe even add some of the MK2 guys as SIDE STORIES not a part of the main story.

For instance Bi-han has talks with Kuai Liang before he leaves for the tournament to explain that a new initiative is being discussed higher up in the Lin Kuei and he will speak with him about it upon his return. Also in this sideplot you can introduce Smoke, Sektor, Cyrax and have them as playable (human) characters in the game while not being involved at all in the tournament on shang’s island. Also explain that the Sub-Zero name is a familial tradition (it annoyed me they changed that in this timeline).

Have Kung Lao and Jax also introduced as friends of Liu Kang and Sonya respectively but who also have side quests which could not be involved around the main story of the tournament.

That’s 15 characters right there. Maybe even add Kitana to introduce the heroes to outworld ala the MK movie. That’s a good 16.

Then all of the other Characters could be newbies who are involved in the tournament itself or the subplots of Sub-Zero, Kung Lao, and Jax.

Sorry I went on a rant but I have a vision for what MK is (as I’m sure all of you do) and this timeline stuff has ventured so far away from what made MK great. It’s time for a restart.

I say give it 6 years (sad as a fan). 2 years of a complete break of anyone thinking about MK. Then the 4 they need to begin development. Have our MK thirst quenched with movies, comics, anime, etc.. until then.

I think SJWs are a huge problem, because all of the women look like NPCs and they were all given needlessly important roles in the story at the expense of more popular male characters who could use a bad ass story moment. I say this as a huge Kitana fan and someone who loves her story in the game.

Here I thought the reason Noob, Frost and Sub-Zero weren't in any story trailers was because they were hiding some epic Lin Kuei sub-plot. Turns out Noob is fodder trash in 1 filler fight and Frost barely interacts with Sub-Zero lol?

I finished Red Dead Redemption 2 a few days ago and I'm disappointed that I'm going to have to go from that game's story mode to this trash. These writers aren't even trying.
