Correction: In my opinion, casual = people who ask for Scorpion when they show a Jade Trailer, and people who ask for Batman, Blade fill in any guest character on youtube, twitter and facebook.

I think you have casuals -> Normal Fans like me, who know all the characters, lore and play the game with all characters and -> Addicted tournament players, who play their entire life to git gud.

If your game doesn't sell well with casual players then it's not gonna sell millions of units and have a ton of sequels. I promise you mk hasn't gotten to their 11th game because of the people that know who fujin is

I said f.casuals, we complain for other reasons, not because we think NRS actually gonna change stuff, complaining just feels really good, just as good as chocolate.

Of course I know disrupted-cells like Cassie Cage are here to stay, but it is still very much fun to complain about them.

It's the characters most casuals do get attached to. They're the ones that makes them keep coming back.

Fair point, but I think the casual market is attached to characters via storytelling and a lot of “most requested characters” have shallow stories. Sure, that gives them potential, but it makes them harder to work into the ongoing story. So DLC makes most sense. Except for characters like Smoke, who is a revenant, and Nightwolf, who is a revenant and Sindel, also a revenant. To me, these characters belong in, Rain and Fujin have a smaller case to be made, but basically, casuals have every character the story tells them to care about. Cage, Sonya, Liu, Kitana, Raiden, Kotal, Sub and Scorp.

Most "casuals" that I know don't care that much about the roster, they just follow MK as a brand.
They care that the game is fun and that the fatalities are cool and violent, not who's in it except maybe the usual Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Most people don't even know the roster before buying, they just see MK written on the cover and go with it.

And, more importantly, saying that Noob or Rain sell more copies than Cassie is pretty stupid considering MKX is the best selling game in the franchise.

Can you people even compare the gore and graphics of Mortal Kombat 1,2 and most of all 3 with the likes of Mk9, X and 11?

That is a very different thing there. For a start, there aren't 100 rib cages flying around anymore, people take out the intestines through the mouth, not really good for 8 year olds, MK 1 and 2 can't compare with that gruesome shit.

Which begs the question: Why does a ResidentSleeper character like Cassie Cage get a spot over fan favorites?

Is Rain actually a fan favourite outside those YouTube videos and Twitter accounts that usually have anime pictures in place of actual profile shots? I'm not convinced he would bring a substantial boost in sales.

Cassie is relevant to the MKX audience. MKX sold in record amounts. Why drop Cassie for old-fashioned characters? Noob Saibot is in the game, but again...he was out of MKX, the bestseller. His lack of presence didn't harm MKX, clearly. Smoke got his time in thr last game, I suppose.

I'm sure they'll be back at some point though.

MKX has sold almost 11 million copies. That is absurd numbers for a fighting game. And Cassie has plenty of fans with general audiences/players partly because of that.

I guarantee you a bunch of those same people have no idea who the fuck Fujin is, or barely know Rain. The demand for the former especially is low outside of the dedicated MK fanbase.
