In MK Mobile all the MKX characters have their Variations attached to their names.

For example:
Spectral Ermac
Wrestler Jax

For MK11 characters on mobile they are literally just called "MK11 Raiden" and "MK11 Scorpion".

Is this hinting toward the fact the NRS is thinking of going away with the variation system altogether and having MK11 JUST kustom even in competitive mode?

Yes and there for sure gonna be more later on but i think it supports the roster size of the MK 11 launch roster that we look at now.
