Could TER just be a typo meant to be GER for Geras? Typing T instead of G is a very common typo.

That would put the ultimate crown on the mess this leak is for them But realistically, I don't think so. Super funny, but not super likely.

How much I like the roster depends on what the hell CET, TER, and KOL are. Since I think a whopping 3 new characters in total on top of the two time benders is "a lot" considering where the story mode seems to be heading. I don't think KOL is the Kollector or whoever, since that leak doesn't seem to align with this one and doesn't mention CET or TER.

I still think they might be filler names for already established characters. Not like I'd even know who the heck those characters would be anyway. I just think three brand new characters is more surprising than anything else. Especially considering that not only counts the classics out of the picture, but also characters that were just introduced within the last game. How good these characters end up being if they're new? Who knows. That's the part that worries me more than anything considering that MK doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to introducing new characters back to back.

That would cause some interesting conversation because people correlate certain characters with other characters being present.

I'd take a 50/50 (not one of those! =P) split as a fair middle ground.

Sure, there'd still be the upset party making a commotion here and there, but it's better than getting a few at a time.

I am mostly a lurker here for news and updates but I have to say I think we are all reacting a little too harshly a little too quickly here.

Let me be the first to say I wasn’t a huge fan of the kombat kids because well now EVERYONE is not only going to expect Sonya,Johnny, Jax, and usually with them Kano. Now we also get those 4 and Cassie/Jacqui. That’s six slots which may not seem like much but it actually is a good little chunk of roster. They aren’t horrible characters by any means, but when you have elementals, gods, demons, monsters etc.., then adding all of the humans seems kind of bland. I guess all I have to say is since NRS is bold enough to introduce 4 kombat kids then one day they need to be bold enough to say Hey guys these kids are the new earthrealm protectors. In my eyes (and I believe a good many) Raiden, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero are the only characters who should have every game status. The rest need to prepare to retire playwise at some point. I mean come on how different from Sonya is Cassie really? We argue Frost shouldn’t be on the roster because of Sub-Zero but Sonya, Cassie, and arguably Jacqui are very similar characters to me. Anyway end that tangent/

Then you have 8 leaked Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Erron Black, Jade, Frost, Jacqui, Cassie, and Kotal.

That’s 18 total. Shao Kahn will not be a part of the 25 I don’t believe. He is pre-order only. I would also throw out Kitana as pretty much guaranteed.

That still leaves 6 spots if I’m not missing anythimg right? Okay we have 3 spots for possibly new characters but I actually do TRUST Ed Boon when he said there is less focus on new characters here. The Kol, Cet, and Ter could be placeholders for ANYONE whether it be returning or new so I think everyone needs to just chill out basically. Yes those could be new characters but let’s just keep calm.

The four most requested of Shang, Rain, Noob Saibot, and Fujin could ALL still make it. Let’s cool our jets.

Who is to say Noob isn’t a white ninja by a different name now huh? He did get kicked into a soulnado. So yeah guys end of this long post haha. Let’s just keep calm. Six spots for god know who still open.

I kinda agree on that part. I find some human characters not as interesting as more flashy ones, and there shouldn't be too many characters with similar movesets. I'm okay with introducing new characters, but I'd rather only have one kid OR one parent in a game, not both. That is if their moves are too similar. Takeda and Kenshi aren't directly comparable imo.

There's two things were I disagree.

First, you're indeed missing something, which is other semi-confirmations that already happened. You included Kitana, which is good because she was in the trailers and is referenced in the Cassie intro we saw. But there was also an image of Johnny performing a fatality, seen on a screen in the NRS office in the fatality trailer. MAYBE that's only a stage fatality or already planning for DLC, but there's a good chance he is in. So potentially one spot less.

Second, I personally don't think Kol, Cet and Ter are placeholder names. They have Raiden as Rai, Scorpion as Sco, Jade as Jad, Frost as Fro... why would they have someone like Noob Saibot as Ter? Just wouldn't make a lot of sense if they have everyone else under their original names I obviously can't proof it, but I hightly doubt that these are returning characters under new names.
Assuming they are all new characters, that's a total of four with Geras. MKX had 8, so that's only half as many. So compared to the previous game, that IS less focus on new characters. It's 50% less. That's imo perfectly in line with Boon's statement. I'd like to think differently, but to me it seems like wishful thinking. Based on what we have, there is no good reason to assume these are anything else but new characters.

So this would be a total of 4 spots less than you're counting. If I want to be extra pessimistic, there's no actual confirmation that Shao Kahn isn't part of the 25 either. So potentially, we're only left with 1 spot left, two if Shao is extra.

With that said, I don't even disagree with your key message. We shouldn't panic too much. Nothing is set in stone, we got at least 1-2 more spots, there's rumors about secret unlocks and there's always DLC. Having favorites behind a paywall sucks, but we'd still get them in some way. So the roster could still vastly improve. But I also don't want to get my hopes up too much, which is why I'm writing this. And 6 more spots on the base roster seem overly optimistic all things considered. I'd rather hope for good DLC, which Boon was also hinting, or maybe 1-2 secret unlocks.

Last but not least, I'd LOVE to be wrong here. I want these characters just as much

The name of Kronika is based on the ancient Greek god Chronos. The name of Geras is also based on the Greek "god of old time".

I believe there's a pattern.

Another Greek god/monster is Ceto/Cetus, who destroys everything that the Elder Gods are unable to fix. My theory is that CET stands for Ceto (pronounced Keto, Κητώ, btw).

Another ancient deity is KOLam or Kolangal. Yet another - KOLedar.

Definitely not placeholder names IMO.

I see where you’re coming from believe me. I just try and stay optimistic about it.

The thing with Johnny Cage to me is REALLY blurry and I mean really blurry. Also in the blur he looks to be wearing his MKX attire. Now not to stir anything up but that to me could potentially have even been footage from MKX that was just in some behind the scene shots. Again it’s very blurry. I would NOT assume Cage is in just yet.

There are 4 names well 5 including Jade that I have seen mentioned in regards to this game. That’s Noob Saibot, Rain, Shang Tsung, Fujin, and rounding it out is Jade. Assuming Jade was already in the data leak that still leaves what I have been referring as the 4 horsemen of mk11 haha. Assuming Cage DOESN’T make it then there’s 3 spots open. I am going to say this I believe Shang Tsung and Noob Saibot will definitely be in. Rain is up in the air for me. I absolutely believe it’s him on the Konquer tab in the menu options. However he also has a tower modifier which is, traditionally, for non-playable characters. Overall though I have the most hope for those 3. Now with Fujin I believe he will helm Kombat pack 1. Maybe even a 3d era pack with Fujin, Li Mei, Havik, and Sareena. He will definitely make people want to purchase it and THAT is why I think he won’t make the main roster.

If everything was right in the world though Fujin would take Frost’s spot IMO. He is much more requested than her. Not to knock her though I’m sure they can pull out theor revamp skills and do great on a new design. Fujin is just by far more requested though and I’m sure they know that.

Okay yeah I see it. I stand corrected. He still looks very similar to his MKX look though. Maybe they didn’t change him up too much. Kind of disappointed the whole cage clan is here again but I will admit this combined with the new steve beran quote tells me cage is in.

So that’s now 20 spots officially taken. 5 spots now open with 3 possibly being new. Still holding out hope on that though.

Also has anyone considered that the diamond formation that the select screen has does not come out to a point at it’s ends? Meaning look at the bottom. There is clearly a point meaning there is only one spot right? Well look at the points at the other ends. They each could add a spot much like the bottom has a spot. So IF that were to happen it would bring the roster to 28 which sounds like a much better number.

Again, trying to be optimistic here.

I'd make predictions but who knows. i want Kitana, Rain, and Jade. Jaqui i did kind of thing had a cool design. I think they can make any character awesome. Really, they can make Goro, Kintaro, and Sheeva just skins with different dialogue ala injustice. I also want Sindel. the hair animations have clearly amped up as seen with Starfire in Injustice 2 but I dunno. i have little interest in the kombat kids. D'vorah had the neatest design IMO of the new characters and i liked erron black. They made Mileena really important cleverly in MKX. Kabal's revenant design is more awesome looking to me than his new one and he seems to play a lot like the flash. I think Geras plays the muscle hunk Jax card well. While Kung Lao is more awesome IMO than Kung Jin i just feel like he will be absent. He looks too similar to the other games. but who knows. Kitana also looked similar to one of Skarlet's outfits. who knows. i feel like when Jade returns though she will play similar to obviously MKX kitana mournful variation and possibly have moves similar to the dragon staff variation of Tanya. I feel like Tanya and many others will appear as NPCs.

I think its more likely that those are placeholder names from earlier in development for characters that still exist in the games code and since QLOC is just porting the game they copied them.

If the poor roaster is so terrible for him that he completely lost interest in the game then he (obviously) has the right to not buy the game. Maybe I misunderstood what he meant to say, but "the game can go to hell" sounds more general to me then just a "I don't care for the game anymore", but again: maybe I just misunderstood.

I never had much interest in Frost, but I guess she can be given some kombat kids redesign to be the Lin Kuei Takeda (I hope this time around she does the unexpected and matures rather than being an easy to corrupt selfish brat). If she's in I hope the frosty hair is customizable and you can get a Frozen parody lol.
