Congrats to Detroit. He's won plenty of local tournaments, it was only a matter of time before he got a major under his belt.

Congrats to Morty for taking 4th. I think he could've placed higher, but 4th is still a very good showing.

I'd also like to point out that VSM isn't untouchable like so many people seem to think. I called them out some time ago for not traveling and they acted like they were too good to be bothered. AZ traveled to them and they lost. End of story.

This is the one and only reason online has an advantage as far as match-ups goes. If no one plays a character(s) in your area, it's gonna be hard to get match-up experience vs those character(s). Online people play a lot of different characters and have a lot of different play styles. There may be lag and delay, but in a good connection learning the match-up in a little lag or delay is better than not knowing the match at all!

Everyone is calling Detroit an online player. He plays offline all the time. He's won roughly a dozen offline tournaments, and I know he grinds offline regularly with Morty. Online has some advantages, but overall it's not a good practice platform. MK9 is even worse since online is virtually unplayable (PS3 viewpoint).

This matchup was scary to us because we really dont know it but that's no ones fault but our own. Detroit you gotta protect that belt because, SHANG TSUNG WE ARE COMING FOR YOU!!

There was other talk of commentary that was not removed. If you're going to edit my post, at least state the real reason. You didn't want negative commentary talk. I actually wanted to know why the other guy liked his commentary. You could've at least left that part in. Nazis in here...

So how would you like this addressed? You'd rather I make a new thread? It really wasn't that important to create a new thread specifically about my issues with the commentary during top 8.

I like some of the VSM guys that I've encountered... Warda to be specific. My main issue with VSM comes from the fact that they don't travel outside of their immediate area. I do not count PA, and Final Round hasn't happened. I'm mainly referring to the CD brothers though. They came into a local stream and I questioned them about it. They gave me a disrespectful response and acted like they didn't need to travel. None of the CD brothers were at Evo or DEV, which have been the two largest and arguably more competitive tournaments for MK9 at the point of the conversation.

If they didn't act so high and mighty, I would not have put them on blast. Plain and simple. It's easy to act humble when you're coming out of loser's bracket in the Grand Finals.

Well, the good news is that since then, they have all traveled to Ohio, along with a good majority of the VSM crew, not to mention the planning of a potential trip to Final Round. I can personally vouch for the CD Brothers though, as all of them are good friends of mine, and all of them are as humble as can be. Anyone who has met them will verify this.

Anyway, lets keep this thread on track from here on out, shall we? This is Detroit's moment, and I will not allow it to be taken from him.

Really? Stop trying to play victim. It's not like I'm being selective if I didn't see the other posts about commentary (which I will remove, btw). This is a thread congratulating Detroit for his victory, not to start squabbles about whose commentary is good/ass/etc.

If you must bring up this, discuss it in a topic made for it. If you don't feel it's important, then don't fill up threads that have nothing to do with it whatsoever.

Being completely honest... I had a feeling Detroit was going to win from the moment he got in to top 8. I was rooting for the CD Bros and REO to win, of course since they're my bros but deep down... something about Detroit made me scared. There were many times during the Shang vs Jax matches where I could tell CD did NOT know what to do and Detroit was in complete control... I almost wanted to turn away from filming it... I mean, c'mon... you're watching your "brother" struggle... it's not ease to watch. I cheered him on though throughout the whole thing and he knew we were all behind him as whenever he got a round in the whole room lit up for @CD jr .

I have always respected [MENTION=442]DetroitBalln313[/MENTION] as a player and even though I believe we have had our differences... not sure if he knows it, but I very much respect him... and even more now that he unleashed a Shang that the East Coast was not ready for. He told me this was his first major that he won and I really hope that this only continues for him. Much love, Detroit... you earned a lot of people's respect and you damn well deserve it. Congratulations, bro.

Man when I read stuff like this I get choked up. Im so proud of all my VSM boys. To handle defeat gracefully and still hold your head high is perhaps one of the greatest tests of a persons character. and you guys came through with flying colors, while at the same time laying all the praise and respect due at the feet of DetroitBalln who I think we can all agree is one of the most phenomenal competitors to ever play the game.

Couldnt agree more, Mr Fink. I was really blown away about how nice Manny and Max were (havent met Robin yet, in person, but he has always been very nice and very kind and generous online via forums & FB) to me and how much of a fan Manny is of just the MK scene. Its very refreshing. And to the Dogg, sorry but Devastation was one of the more very vanilla MK tourneys, which despite having maybe the most entries, was one of the most boring. I wont say anything else out of respect for the scene, but your bias and thats that.
