Should MK11 bring back the sexyness and fan service of MK9 to a degree?

Baraka might be one of the most extreme cases of butterfaces in fiction, but a butterface goes hand in hand with a nice body most of the time. And that's what Baraka has. Baraka is ripped out of his mind, which is again viewed as an appealing trait.

I feel like when people complain about overly sexualized female bodies in all forms of media, they tend to completely forget how ridiculously out of the norm male bodies are at the same time. Look at Captain America and Batman. They look like they've been on a diet consisting out of chicken, rice and all the steroids on the planet their entire life.

And then there is also this:

Okay, I'm not going to derail this thread with a bunch of feminist nonsense, but please never post this again. This has nothing to do with the debate, and it paints a horribly inaccurate portrayal of the other sides case.

The sexiness in MK9 was tacky but in MKX it was enough to make me not complain. It was respectable, especially Kitanas new outfit. If there is sexiness, it has to go both ways, as in both make and female characters need to be sexy, not just the girls looking sexy but the guys as well. It all depends on how inevitable on how of it there will be in mk11.

Yes. A lil sexyness sells well and MK has always been kinda of more or less the mature fighter.

It's not doa blatant out there sexy but sure a balance between mk9 & mkxl is perfect.

The more mature the better.

What I would like to see is different body shapes. It felt like all the body shapes were the same in MKX and I2
This seems to be the case in a lot of fighters I've noticed. NRS games only really have the default male build which tends to be very muscular and usually around the same height, default female build which is very slim and big bodies. Of course I'd expect that for the male especially they'd usually be muscular to fit the nature of the game, but that doesn't always have to be the case. Look at F.A.N.G from SFV, he's a unique build that we don't really see in games.

The chicks in DOA all look fake or like porn star boobs lol. I agree on the in between MK 9 and MK X. It's like they went from one extreme to another, there has to be a balance in between imo.

I'm a lover, not a fighter
I don't get it - it is not like the women in MKX were all in Mumu's or burka's or anything. There were lots of outfits including alternates which showed heaps of skin (D'Vorah was basically wearing sticky tape and Kitana a bra with two pieces of cloth attached)

Is the main problem that they did not have ridiculously large breasts like MK9???

Personally, I like my games gritty and atmospheric. They did an awesome job of making the game more immersive and serious than MK9. The story mode of MK9 was so cringy at times, but MKX's was awesome throughout. Seeing a woman with impossibly large breasts having serious dialogue while wearing a piece of dental floss was just and a bit jarring and made it hard to take seriously.

I think staying with MKX's representation of the women in their main outfits again would be great

Going backwards especially to the era of MK9 designs for women would be an awful idea. There was ZERO contrast, zero distinction between what makes the women who they are just a focus on hyper sexuality whether it fit the characters or not. Everyone with circus boobs and high heels? Homogeneous character designs are never a good thing.

They even managed to make Sheeva sexual: a character who has never ever presented herself as anything but a fearsome warrior with graceful bows for a win pose is feeling herself up in her win pose for this game lol. They even gave her pink lip stick and a more feminine face. Anyone that was a fan of Sheeva didn't pick her for her looks my baby.

Sexuality is fine, but it should be applicable to the characters involved. I expect Mileena being dressed in a more skimpy, sexual way as it has some context to it and you can rationalize and tie it to her story. Sonya and Kitana? Not at all. MKX Sonya and Kitana were beautiful and their designs were befitting of their character and lore.

Diversity and contrast is the way to go and MK9 did not provide that for the women.
For the most part I agree with this. The character design/outfit should fit the character's lore absolutely.

I would argue, however, that Sonya's MK9 Alt costume (tank top, shorts, combat boots, and shades) is a sexy version of what you could expect someone to be wearing in a fantasy (aka story/made up world) military boot camp. I don't see a problem with that for a character design. Maybe lose showing the stomach or something, but it's hardly what I would call a stripper.

Uncle JBeezY is actually surprised at the responses. I expected the common pervy virgin response but I like how most of y'all are in the middle.

I say there definitely needs to be a middle ground between sexual yet tasteful. MK9 was....damn it was a mess. I mean, the final costume for Mileena was literally bandages. Yeah...lazy and tasteless even for Mileena.

MK has the standard of a TOP QUALITY product that lasted for over 20 years. With a legacy like that, having too much fanservice will make the characters look like cheap whorish prostitutes. Thats not what Mortal Kombat represents baby.

But we're talking about general character design/ethos for the game, not just one exception to the costume designs that is more reasonable.

Her showing stomach has been a huge part of Sonya's general core design ethos so that has never been something I would complain about. The alternate costume is cool and would be a design I wouldn't mind seeing again for Cassie or Sonya herself. It encapsulates Sonya/Cage nicely unintentionally and maybe that was the goal with that costume.

My issue is more that when talking in terms of sexiness for the characters, it usually ends being “female characters should show more skin or be more heavily proportioned in certain ways”. It’s almost never “I want more shirtless Scorpion in a skin tight leotard with a big bulge”. It makes it seem like female characters get treated more as eye candy than actual legit characters. It’s a throwback to some of the worst female video game character tropes from the 90’s, and I’m just not a fan of that direction. It also assumes that the default MK player is straight male, which isn’t a great assumption to make or to cater to. All kinds of people play MK, and they probably all have different tastes. I’d rather the focus just be on well-developed diverse characters. If those characters want to dress in a certain way, fine, but it should fit in with how the character is designed and be a way to empower the character, not reduce the character to eye candy.

Man... I'm HOPING this game would balanced in-between.

Yeah tho there needs to a balance. It needs to be tasteful and probably most importantly Respectful! Considering most of today's issues.

Even though Mortal Kombat has always been that one game to go beyond the norm and rules of what most deem a standard.

Sexually too as well.

Ever since ive been here on TYM, ive noticed BALANCE is the theme that people here want to push NRS games to be.

My point was just like what you said, it's possible to be both sexy and fit within specific character's lore. I only brought up to the example to show that it wasn't all or nothing in MK9. Some female outfits were done well.

I would prefer costumes like that sonya one I mentioned to a lot of the very toned back mkx costumes.

Marlow, I think I can answer that or at least give you a close enough answer as to why. Simply put, most of the demographic for MK are males often younger teens to mid 30's, so it's not really that all surprising as oppose to females who play MK. I mean the female MK X tourney on here literally like a handful of women, was it even 10?

Yeah I mean I think like as far as it pertains to the story, or culture of the characters (Edenians are known to dress provocatively very exotic looking and in Mileena's case, she was an experiment so made sense for her to be in straps and not just covered from head to toe you know? But yeah I mean that's the thing, a lot of todays issues are also people being way too sensitive to stuff too and developers often cave which I also think isn't necessarily a good thing. Just look at MK 9 and MK X, regardless of how the women looked the games sold incredibly well so I would wager majority of the buyers don't really care either way you know?

But I'm sure the game will be awesome regardless, I think one thing people forget at the end of the day is it's just that a game, fictional characters. That's how I look at it.

Well looks like you didn't see the thirst on reddit under Shao Kahn render. Or how people complained about Aquaman ugly face before nrs fixed him. Damn I wish MKX had someone as hot as Aquaman in INJ2...

Also didn't MKX sale a lot of copies? I'm not sure if sexyness really matter to people buying this game. Plus they got the internet to search up that stuff.
